Arsenal In For A Tough Time

Blackburn manager, Mark Hughes, says Real Madrid's fatal mistake was allowing Arsenal too much time and space, an error he won't be emulating this Saturday.

Arsenal ripped the heart from the Madrid team in the first leg of the knock out stage in the Champions League, but Hughes reckons they had a helping hand from the Galactico's with their inability to close us down.

'If you allow players time and space in which to operate then they have the ability to hurt you,' said Hughes.

'Real stood off Arsenal too much and never really put them under any pressure, as a consequence they had the space to exploit.

'I would like to think we won't allow them that kind of time and space this weekend as they have struggled when they have faced teams that have denied them space.

'That's what you have to do when you play teams as accomplished as they are, you must play at a high tempo because they have got the individual talent to win games out of nothing.'

However, Sparky is a football man, and didn't want to take anything away from Arsenal's performance.

'It was an outstanding performance but I was hoping for a more intense game for them.

'Although they might not be as physically drained as I'd have liked, I'm hoping it will have taken something out of them emotionally.'

Unfortunately back to the usual bruising game. However, it is another one of those must win game to maintain the current gap. Lets hope our Spanish human motorbike & FL8 can maintain their momentum to create problems on both wings. Diaby to add some muscle to resist the challenge.

FL8 is out, so AH13 (sounds like a gun) should come in for him.

Diaby looks a better option to start the game as Blackburn will be very physical.

When Arsenal thrashed boro 7-0, the fans were all excited and were saying how the club has turned a corner and is destined to win the EPL, but it didn't happen. Then when Arsenal beat Madrid 1-0 at spain, the fans were all excited and were saying how the club has turned a corner and is destined to win the EPL, but then they lost to blackburn 1-0. Bahhhhhhhhhhh.....

i meant to say CL when Arsenal beat madrid.

Full strength Arsenal's CL squad can't beat up a humble blackburn... doesn't it make u think that the madrid was just one fine lucky arsenal day?

Like any Aarsenal fan, they must be very frustrated with the Blackburn result. Looking at the soccernet match stats was even more confusing. We had attempted 42 shots but with only 3 on target so it can only be interpreted as we were all over them but unable to turn any one of those attempts into goals. AW must work out a strategy to combat those physical sides otherwise we will be stuck in this kind of pattern when we can be brilliant in one game then came with teams like Bolton, Blackburn and become unstuck. I have no issues with AW's policy of playing attacking football and this is what the fans wanted to see but for games like this, a little sacrifice can be made to ensure we can get the points. We need a plan B.

I was at Ewood yesterday HK, and can assure you, we had no where near 42 shots, 4 maybe, but 42?? No chance. Also, don't be fooled by the media's interpritation of the game, they are bound to say that once again, we couldn't perform against the physical sides, let me tell you, Blackburn were not physical, and did not intimidate us, there were two very poor teams, and one of them somehow managed to score a goal. Simple as that.
