Arsenal In Race To Sign Worlds Best

It has been revealed that Arsenal are in negotiations to sign Gianluigi Buffon, who is widely considered the best goal keeper in the world.

The players agent claims that talks are under way but will not be simple.

'The negotiation exists, but it isn't easy.'

'London is a pleasing option, but Gigi would like to stay in Italy.

Even though Buffon appears at first hand to want to remain in Italy, he seems happy that negotiations are under way.

'Despite this, Arsenal remains a welcome solution.'

Buffon would be a welcome edition at Ashburton Grove as Jens Lehmann approaches his 37 birthday and our goalkeeping backup clearly isn't up to scratch.

A fantastic goalkeeper however negotiations have are only preliminary at this stage. It is widely known that he is an admirer of the EPL and should juve be punished with relegation then Arsenal will be among favourites for his signiture.

From what I hear about the Juventus situation they are 90% sure to get relegated meaning plenty of top players on the cheap perhaps? due to them still owing us 10m for Vieira we apparently have first refusal on any member of their squad, so id say this is a big possibility.

Only later though. It certainly looks likely that Arsenal will negotiate for alot of Juve's stars should they get relegated and Buffon is looking for an escape route and he could be using our interest to engineer an move to another top Italian club.

yea and wot if he starts match fixin, tht will ***** us rite up! we dnt need juve playes, esp viera, he wanted to leave and he sed they were a bigger club and achieve more things at juve and not us e.g. the european cup, but wot happened there, young cesc played him off the park, we dnt need none of thm, if any1, we cld do with trezeguet

And why would we need another striker?? We have Henry, RvP, Reyes, Adebayor, Lupoli, Bendtner. Our goalkeeping staff consists of a 36 year old German, as fantastic as he is he wont be around much longer, another 30 odd year old who couldnt get in the Sunderland team, and a Spaniard who is prone to more than a clanger or two.............and yet you dont think we need one of the best keepers in the world?? As for match fixing, it's got nothing to do with the players so that comment is redundant!! BTW, who mentioned Vieira?

Go ahead, break the bank on him! Don't forget how much Juve paid for him.

Elmo - 1)None of the players are guilty of match fixing, it's the clubs boards and officials who are guilty of trying to get "favorable" referee's to officiate their games. Nothing to do with the players. 2)Have you ever watched him play? I always thought the money paid for this fella was ridiculous, but it's like the guy has glue on his gloves, he is awesome, and at 28 years of age, his best years are still infront of him.

Hi guys, i'm the new boy. Lets face it, as good as lehmann is he's not Seaman!! To fight for the top prizes in football you need to start with a fantastic keeper and Buffon would give us that for the next 6-8 seasons. I think he'd be great.

he is a fine species buffonious goalkeeperus...these italian boys tend to like being home near mama so i doubt it will happen however considering moneys owed to arsenal and wengers track record it may be possible...certainly stranger things have happened

Firstly as Rocky7 says none of the players are being charged with the match-fixing. Cannavaro and and Zambrotta had their homes searched in relation to the investigation but nothing was found and was explained as being a routine check. Secondly he is simply, along with (as much as it pains me to say this) Cech, the best keeper in the world and is not overated at all. He would be fantastic in controlling and guiding our young defence. Who else would you like from Juve? I dont like Trezaguet, but I am a fan of Cannavaro, Zambrotta, Nedved (bit old), Del Piero and maybe the unpredictable Ibrahimavic.

lehmann was good ..no doubts about that....but hes almost finishd with football and who better to replace him than buffon himself...with all due respect to almunia(who was decent in the CL final) we need buffon...

As regi Boy said there are a few juventus players i would love to see at the emirates next season Buffon being one of them ... he is the best keeper in the world with out a doubt ... there are many stars that arsenal could snap up ... kovac, Chiellini, Thuram, Cannavaro, Zebina, Emerson, Nedved, Zambrotta, imbra, del piero However the 3 i would loev to see them sign would be Buffon ,Camoranesi and Mutu they are both 3 very good players Camoranesi is very attackable showing alot of experience he could slot in behind henry in a 4-5-1 formation Buffon the worlds best would be a great replacment for the aging Lehmann , Mutu unpredictable fast a very good back up player and lay off player to play with henry also he would come at a good price

If the rumour mill is true and Juve do owe us the majority o the Vieira transfer then I wouldnt mind Buffon eventually replacing Jens between the sticks and poss a bit of Cannavaro but Trez, Nedved, Thuram seem to be past their best. See last seasons CL QF @ Highbury for details!!!!!!
