'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Now He Truly Is 'Swiss Tony'

Phileppe Senderos has well and truly become 'Swiss Tony'

Tomas Rosicky, Cesc Fabegas & Kolo Toure have all had the recent privelidge of being issued shirt numbers of Arsenal legends, and today Arsene Wenger showed Senderos how valuable he is to the squad by issuing him with the legendary number 6 shirt.

The shirt has been rested over the past few seasons after Mr Arsenal, Tonay Adams, hung up his boots.

Senderos had to mature beyond his years last season after Sol Campbell went awol, he was also a rock for Switzerland in the world cup even scoring a goal with a bloodied head. Tony would have been proud of that one himself.

Well played Phil.

Well done senderos you really have achieved something at arsenal.I want to see henry number 10

Senderos deserves it fair play to him. But there is no way Henry should change his number. He has made the number 14 shirt his own and should never change from it.

Swiss Tony is a worthy successor. No doubt about it.
Lex touched me.
Well done senderos but he aint no tony adams!!! Im not to sure Senderos is a worthy succsessor, but i hope he makes me eat my words!!
merz

Congrats Phillip, i'm sure you'll do just as well as Tony did even better hopefully. I think number 10 will be Saviola jus waiting confirmation on his imminent signing...
protocal
well that is somewhat of a shock to me. 6 is a very priveleged number to take. and as a centre back senderos now looks to be the player that will take sol campbells place with this number and arsene has shown alot of faith in him.

Looks like Wenger thinks he is the real deal and the long term successor to Big Tony. I have had my doubts at times, but he is still young and will only continue to improve. I hope he goes on to make John Terry look like Igor Stepanovs.

I think that Wenger issuing these new numbers is a subtle way of saying the team has come of age. I'm amazed that number 6 has been issued, I thought it had been retired!!
simmy8_2000
it is wengers belief in his youth that inspires them to perform and what better way to show your belief.as for the kenyan kijana i think RVP will earn number 10 and henry he has rendered 14 legendary material one day someone will have to earn it.
mish
Wenger stated recently that he doesn't believe in retiring shirt for Arsenal legends because we have that many of them that we would be in the 100's as far as shirt numbers went. He said he likes to wait a suitable amount of time before issuing it again.
Rocky7
He earned the number in style! His workaholic flare does it everytime he is on the pitch.
SWPACIFIC
It's makes sense to re-issue the numbers now - new stadium, new sponsor, new kit etc. They all deserve it though - we have an excellent young team... roll on the new season!

I think Kenyan must be on a wind up with some of the laughable ***** he come out with.

LMAO !!! henry number 10 ... jokes lmao !!! Number 14 is a legendary number because of him ... all the kids in young football teams around the country argue for it because they want to b just like him ... Im not to sure on this number 6 for senderos he had a poor season ... compaperd to the 04/05 season he had
Achilles
Well im not entirely sure bout this one. Personally I would of had tomas #10 sandy #5 kolo #6 and that would of left Savi (if he signs)with #7, but i commend Fab-ulous getting #4

i think that 14 is the number that should not change because we should retire his number when he leaves and for phil i like him but he is not the defender that will help us win the epl or other championships we need a much faster and stronger man with more experienc like CANAVARO or NESTA maby LUCIO
