'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Someone Is Lying

Arsene Wenger claimed yesterday that all Juve's players that will be sold on as part of their relegation nightmare will be too rich for Arsenal to afford, yet this morning, Gigi Buffon's agent says the Gunners have lodged a formal bid for the keeper.

After last years hijackings of Arsene's potential transfers, Le Boss now plays his cards close to his chest and said yesterday,

'We cannot afford to do it which is why we are not overly concerned with what is going on at Juventus. It is very unlikely we will make a move for the players because the wages are too high for us. What has happened in Italy will inevitably disturb the market because you have a lot of players who come on to the market but don't forget the players of Juventus are very well paid and not many clubs in the world can afford to pay this kind of wages.'

However, contrdicting the great man was Buffon's agent, Silvano Martina, claiming,

'It's true that Arsenal are very interested. Juventus informed me that Arsenal have made a very serious offer for Gigi.'

Reports coming from Turin suggests the bid is in the region of 12.6 Million quid.

Who is lying? You decide.

Great news if we sign Buffon!
Lex touched me.
Great signing but don't think it will materialise. He'll stay in Italy i reckon..

Who's lying? Read the article properly - Wenger says it is "very unlikely". I think he is being clever as usual here. He is most likely keen to sign Buffon (who wouldn't be) and may have submitted an offer. BUT he is pointing out that if the wage demands are too high we will not sign him. Therefore, I don't think either party is "lying".

if he signs, good stuff... if he doesn't, its still good cos we've got mad jens...

I think Wenger is just being "economical with the truth" rather than straight out lying. He doesnt want other clubs to think they are after a player, because that could start a bidding war. Wenger just wants to get on with his own business and sign players without all the media circus.

Well that goes without saying but "Someone is being economical with the truth" isn't quite as catchy :P
