'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Official: Bergkamp Is Not A Spud

In his elustrious career at Highbury, on many ocassions it had been rumoured that Dennis Bergkamp spent his youth as a Spurs fan. Well, that's just not true.

With Bergkamp's testamonial only days away, Arsenal.com have made this week 'Bergkamp Week' and in a section called 'Myth busters' DB10 has revealed that rumours that he is a Tottenham fan have been fabricated.

The Gunners Legend admits that he was a massive Hoddle fan, but his comments over the years had been twisted to make them more interesting, I mean, a spud playing for the Gunners?!? That's just not cricket.

Bergy said,

'People often assume I'm a Spurs fan, but thats not true, I'm a fan of Glen Hoddle, not of Spurs.'

'There's a lot of questions of course, espescially when I came over here, and I never understood the rivalry between Arsenal & Tottenham, till I came here of course, but it's interesting for a lot of people, espescially the media that someone who plays for Arsenal used to be a fan of Tottenham but I've never really been a fan of particular teams, I've played in the youth for Ajax but it's normal that you support that team but outside Holland I never really had a favorite team.'

'The question has been asked many times, but then they ask what kind of players you admire, well [it was] Glen Hoddle at the time when he played for Spurs but when he played for other teams aswell, purely his style of football I admired.'

'So thats absolutely not true that I supported Spurs.'

Well Dennis, that just makes you more of a legend in my book.

We'll miss you!!
