Arsenal In Midfielder Talks

Janos Toth, the agent of Lens midfielder Alou Diarra, claims discussions have taken place with a view to a possible transfer to Ashburton Grove.

Rumours have been flying around for well over a year as Arsene Wenger looks to strengthen his midfielder after the sale of Patrick Vieira last summer.

The agent claims that Wenger is very interested although no formal offer has been tabled.

'Arsene likes Alou a lot, discussions have taken place but no offer has yet been made,' said Toth.

Do we need any more midfielers? I think our priority should be some deffensive players. With Sol gone & the money grabbing, back stabbing, I'll pick up 60K a week & only play a dozen games all season Cole off the our blue cousins up the kings road we are suddenly a bit short in defence. Any comments guys?

I hope that Wenger is trying to sign a centre midfielder because Diaby will probably be out at least until Christmas and without him we look short of strength and depth in midfield. Fabregas and Rosicky look very good going forward and Gilberto and Flamini look okay defensively, but I think in some matches (especially away from home) we might need someone in CMF who is a bit more of an all-rounder. Zokora would have been my preferred option, but he's aleady gone to Sp***. Diarra would be a good option, but I'd prefer Yaya Toure or Appiah. Clubcall (yeah, I know) are suggesting that Appiah could be bought for 4 million UKP, which would be an absolute bargain. Cole is probably the best left back in the world, but Clichy isn't far behind, and we'll have Hoyte and Flamini as cover, so I don't think we'll be signing a left back. AW has already said that he intends to sign a replacement for Sol. If Davies is too expensive for us, I'd like to see us sign Micah Richards from Man City or McEverley (can't remember his first name) from Blackburn, but I'm probably dreaming. However, I'm hoping that the money we get from selling Cole will allow us to go for Davies. Alternatively (and this is a real wild card), perhaps re-signing Upson wouldn't be out of the question?

i like Richards from man city heis young and strong with alot of pace

Diarra would be a good signing. He's tough and much more defensive-minded than Yaya or Appiah. He'd be an asset against teams like Bolton.

I wish we could dispell with these rumours and just get our 2 players signed and have done with it.

Richards is a gooner as well but will develop better getting 1st team football at Man City we have several players just as good in the reserves.

I`m not keen in him coming to arsenal.we dont really need him

Il y un jouer parfait pour L'arse. He speaks the clubhouse language and will be able to guide the team when L'arse transfer to Ligue 1 next year and assure themselves of a permanent champions league berth. Ah! It eez all so zoot alors een Eezleengton zese days.

Not a round that really saw any upsets with the majority of those expected into the quarter-finals making it - arguably West Ham's win against Chelsea was the only one.
