Arsenal Face Tricky 3rd Round Tie

Arsenal haven't had the easiest draw in the world after being paired with either FK Ekranas or Dinamo Zagreb in the draw for the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League.

Dinamo Zagreb, who are favorites to beat FK Ekranas, enter the competition as Champions of Croatia.

Arsenal will play the first leg on August 8 or 9 and the second leg on August 22 or 23.

Anyone know what the score was from the first leg? This makes booking flights a real pain!

yes its 4-1 to zagreb and the croatian side will easily progress. I think we are away first of all but dont know which day that is yet. as croatian champions with the odd brazilian in their side they could be dangerous opposition.

I am still confident that we can get past them and go through to the main draw.

Without henry & with almunia in goal I think there is a massive chance that we will crash out & end up in the uefa cup instead.

Should be an interesting tie. Not really the team i'd've chosen to play but we could've got worse. I'd rather we got Haifa instead of 'Pool. But it doesn't matter coz all us Gooners know that in the next 11 days we're gonna sign 5 new world calss players haha. I'm still laughing at Spurts' new kit tho hahahaha

Right b######s to it, I'm gonna bite the bullet and book a flight to Zagreb today. I think this one could be tricky, but I'm hoping Boro Primorac will have the inside track. Dein's also confirmed "civil discussions" with Chelski over Cole. I'd like to think that these "discussions" involve Dein bursting into the negotiations with a smith and weston to Cole's head, shouting "Give us Gallas in exchange or the c##t gets it."

Have we ever played them before? If yes, what was the score please? Cheers. Common Gunners

i agree with rudeboy i think we have enough quality without henry. this is van persies year and almunia is not all that terrible. plus by the time they come to new highbury on the 22nd we will have a stronger match fit squad so zagreb are the ones who should be fretting

Zagreb's season starts tomorrow so they will be match fit already. Has anyone seen their results from last season? They score a lot of goals & our defence is in tatters at present. Cygan as first choice centre-back really takes the biscuit & opposition players seeing him on the team-sheet will fall about laughing. We have 3 months of this & thats hoping that senderos comes back on time without any problems. All I keep hearing from Dein & co is about how important it is finacially that we qualify, personally I dont give a ***** about the finances we never spend anything anyway. We have made so much money in sponsorship deals & yet it hasnt gone towards the stadium debt & hasnt gone towards new players, so where is it? No doubt lining the directors pockets & making their lovely new offices all nice.

How do you know that it hasn't gone into the new stadium. Do you have a copy of the accounts? "All I keep hearing" etc, when exactly has Dein said that? Even when he was interviewed today he refused to make such a statement, instead re iterating how important it is for sporting reasons. How do you know we will not sign anyone before the window closes? I'd be interested to know these inside connections you seem to have.

Hay guys! Don't think about Dinamo as a peace of cake. Of course, you are better, much better, but it won't be so easy... Jens Nowotny has signed for us, just for the record. :-)

For TibGun: Arsenal and Dinamo have never played before. From our latest matches with England clubs we played against Manchester United in CL 1999/2000 (0:0 at Old Trafford and 1:2 in Zagreb, name of the club was "Croatia") and we lost from Fulham in UEFA cup 02/03.

either game would be a tricky one to play, neither side can be taken too lightly, i do think that we will get through though there is no reason why we cant, i can see it being another barca arsenal final this year with the result going the other way, - Arsenal for europe
