Wenger Needs To Strengthen Defence

The result for the latest Vital Arsenal poll says that Arsene Wenger needs to spend some serious cash on strengthening our defence.

A whopping 80% believe that defensive players should be on the top of Arsene Wenger's shopping list this summer.

With Lauren, Phileppe Senderos & Clichy injured, the departure of Sol Campbell and the imprending departure of Cashley Cole, we have been left extremely weakened at the back.

Wenger himself admitted he was searching for a centre back who could also play on the left, but to date nothing had come up.

Poll results in full:-

*Keeper 6%
*Defence 80%
*Midfield 10%
*Attack 4%

he probably wont buy a defender now time is running out and for some reason he seems farely confident in the current group. maybe its coz the current guys minus senderos went 10 unbeaten in champions league. but time and again we have suffered from a lack of depth at some point in the season. lessons must be learnt or else...

Whether he's confident or not, Wenger is very unlikey to come out and say anything other than that. I mean how would that look if he said he was confident in his defence and was looking to sign some players and then nothing came up?!?!

this is a sign of what the fans want, it is true that we need to improve the defence with all the plyers that we have got out at the moment we do need the improvement, AW is clever tho could he have a player lined up? who knows but then he is ronound for picking out talent that is hidden could this be our season again?

I agree with u protocal but Davies would also be nice. Pitty we missed out on Thuram but lets just hope the same thing doesn't happen to Davies.

imo he'll sign sum1 soon, maybe we need the cash from the impending cole transfer surely the boss knows that we need 2 sttrengthen. he and the boys r in austria, so is it not left with dein 2 go after wenger's targets?

we need at least 1 defender and another midfeilder with bite, i.e appiah or mascherano, we just do not have enough depth and if we get struck by injuries like usual, then who knows what position well finish, i just hope we get at least two more quality players before the window closes

AW's waiting for the Cole cash to come through. It's a known fact he went after Thuram, so he's obviously on the case.

I've heard that AW might be gettin Ghana centerback Shilla Illiasu over the weekend or maybe goin on a trial. He was great for Ghana @ the world cup and would be perfect for Arsenal.

Its true he is on trial. But I would love it if we got Mascherano. Chelsea have Makalele. If we get the argie we'll have Makalele x 100. I kno wenger was after him when Vieira was leaving and i would love it if we signed him. Such a quality player and loves to defend and is also excellent in distubution with the ball. Tough tackler too, to good to be true, but it is true.
