Final Piece To Wenger's Puzzle?

Arsene Wenger recently admitted that he was searching for a defender capable of playing at both centre-half and left-back, and now it appears France & Lyon left back, Eric Abidal just wouldn't be able to say no if Arsenal came knocking.

The Gunners will begin the season without three defenders through injury, Campbell has already gone and Cashley Cole looks a dead cert to pack his bags, which is why, Le Boss is looking for a player who can multi task.

Step forward Eric Abidal.

Abidal played very capably for a France team that almost went all the way in this years world cup, only to lose on penalties, and I've been informed that he filled in a centre back at times for Lyon last season when injuries occured. Sounds as if it's just what Wenger is looking for.

The only things that casts a doubt over the credibility over whether or not he is actually one of Wenger's targets is the fact that he's personally come out and said something.

'I am happy at Lyon,' said Abidal, 'where I have three years of my contract left. Nevertheless, with some great clubs like Barcelona or Arsenal it is not possible to say no to them.'

'If a player wants to leave, I do not see how somebody can stop that.'

To me it sounds a little bit like a come and get me plea.

I honestly don't think we are going to bring anybody in now between now and Thursday's Champions League deadline. I've been kidding myself in thinking we might get Gallas but then thought, why would he leave Chelsea for us? We'll probably just end up getting this Ghanaian fella.
codchops
quite a few pieces short im sorry to tell ya fellas hehe!
elmo85
the ghanaian (Shilla Illiasu) seemed good enough at the W.Cup and we dont have enough time to trial other players so bring on the africans.
mish
dont worry elmo85 time will tell
mish
In what area's Elmo?
Rocky7
Abidal was nice to see in the WC i want him to come
kenyanrudeboy2
hardly final piece, but i'd say it'd be a good signing. I ask you all one question. what happens if Gilberto gets a 3 month injury at the start of the season? who plays at defensive midfield? Flamini? HaHa.
gazzap
Well we know for sure that if there are any more signings they sure won't be English!
Westl
I agree we need one more for cover but it don't think the situations as bad as its being made out. Otherwise why would Wenger allow Gilbert to go on loan for a season. He obviously rates Hoyte, might feel this is his season. The Ghanaian would be ample cover until Sendros returns. Djourou looks more accomplished every time I see him. p.s. anyone know the situation with Carlos Vela? Celta Vigo have no space this season. Are we taking him back?

Sign them or tap them up West1? In trouble again eh!!
Rocky7
this is how it will look like arsenals back 4 ebeu kolo gallas abidal. isn,t that a rock
illmo
here is sumthing 2 throw in the mixer, put gilberto in the back with kolo.then when lauren is back stick him in the middle with cesc
DB10
LI don't rate Abidal, but thats just my opinion, i'd rather keep and use him, he did well at left back for bad sunderland team. And stop all being so pesamistic :D
Johnaldiniho
If Ashley Cole, David "i'm so great" Bentley and Jermaine "can I borrow your car" Pennant are anything to go by, I'd rather not have English players!
Little Dutch
I hope we don't bother with Abidal... I don't rate him that highly, and Lyon seem to hold clubs to ridiculous ransom (Essien, Diarra)
pitythefool
i hope we do not buy him, he was not great in the world cup, very nervous, made too many mistakes.
foley1989
abidal is a good player but bit nervous, and don't forget that hoyte can play everywhere in the defence.
fellow
i relly dontr think AW willl be buying anyone bettwen now and the champions league game, all i hope is that he does bring in somebody, and if ashley goes play him next week thus not allowing chelsea (providing he goes) to play him all season in the cup
Walcott
He is a good player but we won't be signing him. We should go for a defensive midfielder before buying a new centre back. I hope we get mascherano. Or maybe enquire about muvaba. But if we do buy a CB we should try and get in Gallas as part of the Cole deal if it happens. I trust wenger.

What about Fran Merida? How come yur not talking about him these past few days, eh?
