Gallas Agent Admits Arsenal Interest

Chelsea centre back William Gallas IS rejecting a new deal with the Blues and Arsenal have shown interest according to the players agent.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that Arsene Wenger stated if he could find a centre back you could dual as a left back, then he'd be back in the transfer market. Well it now appears such a player has become available, and he's a very good player.

Gallas' agent Pierre Frelot said: 'William has decided to leave. Arsenal are interested and we have to find an agreement with Chelsea, even if I know they will do everything to keep him. Chelsea have made us a very good offer to sign a new contract but William would like to go and we will see what happens. However, I don't know if Chelsea will agree to sell him to one of their greatest rivals.'

His comments confirm a couple of things:-

1) William Gallas no longer wants to play for the Blues and with one year left on his contract a deal shouldn't be too difficult to broker. The Chelsea boss himself said yesterday that the only reason Gallas is still a Chelsea player is because no-one has made an offer.

2) That Arsenal have shown interest and maybe a part exchange deal with Ashley Cole, who Moaninho has openly expressed an interest in (in more ways than one) could possibly be on the cards.

3) Reading between the lines of Gallas' agents statement, Frelot has practically told us that should Arsenal lodge a bit (or indeed negotiate a part ex deal for Cole) then it appears Gallas would be willing to enter into talks with the Gunners.

The possibility of this transfer would have most Gooners drooling as a back four of Eboue, Toure, Gallas & Clichy would certainly be one of the best around.

Erm.....can you not read?? Whether Arsenal sign Gallas or not is debatable, but it's clear that Gallas does not want to play for Chelsea. So why on earth would you say that you keep him, other than to try and wind people up???

gallas won't come because chelsea are happy to keep players just to stop their rivals getting them. cheats. they buy up all the arsenal targets at huge prices which is why wenger hates mourinho. which is why we should all hate chelsea. not because they buy the finest world talent and then play long ball. anyway, we could have signed gallas from marseille but we didn't rate him then. erreur

oh, and while we're talking about Gallas, what happened to Maureen's quote from ealier last season about 'i will not keep anyone at the club if they want to leave', which has since become 'gallas will not be allowed to leave'. a man of his word. It would be good to get gallas, but he has already stated he'd prefer a move abroad. I say we sell cole for 25mil maybe 30mil cash and use that to vastly improve the squad. Thats more than enough money plus the money we have already have. Looks like we will bid for abidal, probably ribery and a defensive midfielder hopefully.

I think its clear that Gallas wants to join arsenal & has done for many years. I believe he only ever went to chelsea to use them as a stepping stone, however things obviously changed a bit when abramovich took over. If Gallas was that intent on going abroad he could walk out on chelsea now & they would only get a fee decided by some fifa panel. Under the new fifa rules a player who is over 24-25 & has served at least 3 years with his present club & who is in the final year of his contract can leave for another country & his current club can do nothing about it. I think Gallas is using his agent to broker a deal with arsenal, its just whether arsenal are interested in Gallas. Wenger may like him but he would probably want 80-90k a week & arsenal seem intent in getting rid of all their high earners, henry apart.

i too doubt gallas will arrive at highbury, and from what i saw of abidal, i hope he will not be joining the ranks of the red and white. I saw nothign in him to suggest to me that he would be capable of improving on the current incumbents filling our left-sided defensive berth. sgt flamini, clichy, and let us not forget hoyte (who has lb experience from sunderland last season) should be more than capable of filling that position this season, although talk of such regular rotation is not ideal, as i would prefer a settled man for that berth. Talk of Traore stepping in is way premature. I do not doubt he may be a fine prospect, as i have not seen him play, so it would be unfair of me to do so, either for or against him. Though from reports read, he would seem a real find. who knows for sure? »»Arsene Knows««

U poor deluded Chelski fans (if that word can be associated with you lot). As I recall that it is not Jonathan Barnett that came out in the papers and stated that Cole wants to leave Arsenal is it now? You know what would screw you lot over big time, if Cole was persuaded to stay and we gave Gallas the 3mil required to buy himself out of the hell hole you call the Bridge!!!!!!!!

howz about a swap hey chelski fellaz? hows about a.cole for gallas and 60 million angolan kwachas' (about 5 shilling). a straight swap is cool with me. one player wants to play with a soulless team for the money and the other wants to play real football in a fancy new stadium (maybe). lets swap and all be happy:)

Wenger said he'd be interested in a centre back that could also play left back. But Gallas doesn't want to play at left back, and he does know that Wenger ould expect to be able to play there, so I dunno how they'd address that.
I think the real reason Gallas want to leave The bridge is what I see as an apparent lack of disrespect for his pedigree. If you're paying Terry something like 90 or 100K a week, then you pay Galls 40K, and when you do offer him a raise, it's "Only" upto 70K, I think it sends him a message he probably doesn't feel pleased with. ON top of that, you always make him play all over the pitch, as if you don't have the money to buy proper people for these positions. If you had a financial constraint, then maybe one would understand, but this is not the case.
Anyway, if he'd want to come over, I'd be glad. I rate him as a defender, we really do need an established CB, and he has the pacec that goes so well with our football. Plus of course, he knows The Emirates is the only place in England where he can play football of a quality worth writing home about.

He said earlier it was because he wanted to sort his contract out over a year ago but chelsea refused to and waited until now and even offering him more money won't fix that burnt bridge. Gallas will either leave or be forced to wait a year and then go. Gallas coming is highly unlikely but still possible, it would be a great signing and a very good coup from Chelsea. Lets just hope this gets sorted soon, same with the cole issuie!

He's no Gus Caesar, but he'll do me. I think he's a better all round defender than John Terry. It's just JT is English and has a publicity machine behind him. Gallas does his job humbly and effectively. A bit like Kolo who is one of the top 3 cb's in the world, but of course he doesn't feature in a joga bonita ad or plaster his face on billboards so people don't talk about him in the esteem he desrves.

i would like this guy to be playing in an arsenal shirt next season, but to be tottally honest i relly can not see it happening, due to the fact that the only way that we will get him is a part exch for cashley cole, and idont think that AW will want that, plus i dont think that chelsea will lt him join arsenal, from them i just can not see it happening

Rocky7 No intent on a wind-up. I think A. Cole wants to go to Chelsea and Chelsea will overpay because Bridge is not enough on the left. Wenger will figure out how to spend the money! Gallas makes me more nervous by the day, but I think his desire was Italy not Arsenal, so he may rot this year and then who knows...he may come your way afterall. I hope not, I rate him higher than A. Cole.

that will do nicely hes good versitile player to play all over the back four, were lacking a bit of depth in the defence and gallas will help the problem, come on arsene gt him 2 the emirates!
