Chelsea Bow To Arsenal Pressure

With news filtering through that Cole will make the short trip from N5 to Chelsea within the next couple of days for a reported £23 million, it appears that once again Chelsea have caved and cracked under the pressure.

A statement was release by Chelsea only three days ago stating that talks had been ongoing between the two clubs but Arsenal's resilience had not wavered in their quest to gain the correct price for the player and as such it was very unlikely any transfer would be made.

'Chelsea FC has been in discussions with Arsenal Football Club for some time over the possible transfer of Ashley Cole. Chelsea has made a very substantial offer for the player. Although discussions have continued, Arsenal`s valuation of the player does not match Chelsea`s and therefore no agreement can be reached in the current circumstances .'

It was rumoured that Chelsea's offer was in the regeion of £17-20 Million, even the Blues manager stated they would pay one penny more. In an interview with Sky Sports news he said,

'Arsenal have an offer in hand. An offer we believe is a good offer but if they don't accept, they don't accept.'

Asked if the offer would be increased, he said: 'No. I'm not the financial man but they told me no chance, not one penny more.'

And after taking a few steps away from the cameras he made the point of coming back and saying

'And I agree, I agree'

Many people were shocked by this stance after Chelsea had been held to ransom over Essien, Wright-Phillips, Didier Drogba & Shevchencko, but after losing millions and millions of pounds it was apparent that Chelsea were no longer going be made to pay extortionate transfer fees for their players & Arsenal would just have to settle for their initial offer or face losing the player on a free transfer.

But now, if these reports are true, Chelsea have once again cracked and caved and will stump up almost Wengers full asking price.

I believe that Maureenho & co were hesitant of paying such money for the England left back because they know that Arsene Wenger will be able to strengthen his team considerably more with £23 million than Ashley Cole will strengthen the Premiership Champions.

I for one will just be glad to see the end of this sorry saga.

This is a message to Arsene & Mourinho...............this is boring now, i'll make the decision for ya - £20m done deal - run along Cashley, join the others who would rather get paid stupid money than actually play 90 mins week in, week out.

Think it's more like Arsenal cracking under pressure. CFC state they're not going to increase offer and suddenly he's on his way. You need the money to service your debts from the new ground. Roman saves yet another football club!!

Protocal must be on something. Arsenal are about to sell one of the best left backs in the world (Henry's words) to Chelsea as a pal for Shevchenko & Ballack and he says that Chelsea should be very afraid. Something tells me they're not.

Of course Chelski were gonna bow to the pressure, otherwise why put a statement on your website? IOt's a classic bluff which reeks of fear and desperation. What have you heard from Arsenal in this negotiation? Not a peep. We knew we wouldn't get £30m for C###, but by insisting on it we'll get more than the initial 16, simple business ethics. DD, unlike Abramovic didn't acquire his fortune by raping the economy of a country, he got it through business smarts and a flair for negotiation.

i want more than £23m. Cole and Reyes to Madrid for Robinho and £15-£20m. People will be saying that we dont need to stregthen in attack, but although we have great attacking midfielders I still think that the diference between a good team and a great team, or at least in our case, is another great striker. I dont think anyone can question Thierrys ability, but we havent found a striker that realy suits him (apart from Dennis who, oviously, we dont have anymore.). I really think Robinho is a great player, and would be a great partner for Thierry. He would be getting around 15-20 goals in is first 2 seasons, and hes only 22! He would be a massive asset to our squad. And with the £15-£20m, we could buy a decent defender to solve our problems at the back. Also, Real Madrid have said they want Reyes and Cole, and when Roberto Carlos retires, and he will soon, who will they play at left back? Not Raul Bravo. They will want Ashley Cole! That would be a great deal for us. REYES+COLE -----> REAL MADRID ROBINHO PLUS £15-£20M -----> ARSENAL

Well i kno wateva wenger has done wen we sold players that were big 4 us we always come back even stronger, ashley cole is da best LB around and i have said i didn't want him 2 go. but the fact is he is. so we gotta buy some players to improve the quality of the squad and increase the depth. I say chelsea and other teams should be worried because the players we get will definitely be technical and probably super fast. Our team has grown together and have gained valuable exp. They are gelling now whereas chelsea may take a while to gel. Our football we play will be even better and more fluid. I have no doubt chelsea are worried, jose didn't want to pay over 16mil 4 ash because he was worried who we might go and get with all that money. plus with the supposed transfer of reyes plus the money from the CL run in last season we have a hefty warchest and are able to buy quality players. This is why chelsea shud be scared although they are still the team to beat, but i think we'll surpass them this season and raise the bar once again in the EPL. Thanks Abramovich, we kno 23mil is small money 4 ya. cheers mate. Robinho not gonna happen, coz we got enough strikers we need defensive cover CB & LB, DM and winger possibly. i think robinho will play 4 us 1 day but not till he's 25-28yrs. he needs to develop physically at the mo hes a bit lightweight. one day... We shud sign nuri sahin and owen hargreaves, ghanian on trial and go in for phillip mexes or some other top notch CB.

Hey little dutch, how much money has DD made by picking off Spanish teenagers for free? Would you call that ethical business tactics?

Whats unethical about it West1? Barca do not have adequate contract rules in place and as such the players aren't tied down by a professional contract, if they want to come to us we should just say no??? PS, he hasn't made anything from the players as we still have them!!

i know wenger says hes not interested in another striker... bt seriously Robinho would be awesome. And him and Henry would be deadly. Yes, he is young, but AW has proved that he is probably the best Person for bringing out talent.

must agree with PROTOCAL we have enough strikers. as for ARSENALROB i know exactly what you mean about 2 good strikers and i think this season adebayor will be a pleasant suprise he will connect very well with henry and/or van persie. lets sell cashley quickfast and buy some quality bulk to hold the mifield and bolster the defence

Rocky, he has saved money by picking them up for free. It is a loophole that should be closed, but I don't think encouraging 15 year olds to turn their backs on the team that has nurtured them for years and move away for a year before being able to sign them is entirely ethical, seems like tapping up to me. Otherwise, how could the agent know that Arsenal would sign the player to a contract after the year?

we have enough in numbers but for me we only have 2 who are decent. Obviously Henry and Van Persie. Reyes will be good on the big pitch too, but he will be played as a winger, too. An Adebayor uprise I just don't see hapening. Out of Wengers Three young January signings i think Adebayor won't be great, apart from when we are playing teams with dwarfes for defenders. Walcott will get beter and with his pace he can run away from any defender. For me, Abou Diaby was the one looking realy good. Forget comparisons with Viera, Abou looked to me like he could be far better than Viera, untill that Dan Smith kid came along.

I think you got the best of us on this one. Great negotiations! We're glad to have him and money means little to Mr. A, but I think you added 1-2 more quality players by playing your cards right. Well done.

i'm pretty sure adebayor will be a very good player 4 us this season. u forget hes only 22 with all that experiance. he is a bit rough round the edges but so is eto'o. i'm sure AW can turn him into a deadly player, even though he already is with his strength and suprisingly quick pace with those long legged strides he takes. ADEBAYOR will be a success as he can play wiv any striker and links up well wiv the midfield. support the big guy he won't dissapoint.

I am of the opinion that Henry and any half decent forward is enough but I am worried about what happens if Henry is injured and has to miss six or eight games ? Are Adebayor and RVP enough for us? and who comes on when and if they get a knock? .......
