I'm yet to meet a Gooner with something positive to say about January signing Emmanuel Adebayor, but the player himself is adamant he will prove his critics wrong.
Adebayor has had a number of comparisons flung his way, the most common of which would be to that of former Arsenal striker Nwankwo Kanu. Whilst the pair appear similar in stature and a dodgy hair cut or two, I believe thats where the similarities end.
Kanu was a player of obvious skill, yet his potential was unfulfilled and his work rate occasionally questionable, and while he was a firm favorite with the fans he was never going to be a world beater. Adebayor on the other hand offers something not usually associated with the Gunners; the natural gift to score a scruffy goal and the ability to get off the ground.
Under Arsene Wenger's tenure, the Gunners rarely lift the ball to head height from a crossing position and on the occasions that happens, it's usually Henry doing the crossing to an empty box, but in this new breed of Arsenal striker, we just might have someone to mop up the scraps.
Wenger's search for a fox in the box seemed to end with the waste of 10 million quid on Francis Jeffers but nevertheless it was an ingredient missing from the Arsenal mix, but the way Adebayor opened his Arsenal account suggested he would be the player to fill that role.
As the ball popped up from a Birmingham defender, Adebayor was on hand to put the ball in the back of the net from a yard out.......with his head of all things.
Arsenal miss out on so many goals because we don't get enough bodies into the box on the break, but along with his Bambi like control and the ariel threat, Adebayor possess pace and the ability to get into the area at lightening speed, it is these things that will see him bag at least 15 goals this coming season.
Speaking with official website, Arsenal.com, Manu confirms my opinions with a self belief that will stand him in good stead.
"I think what I can bring is a little bit of running and a little bit in the air," said the World Cup star. "They don`t have big forwards like me who can jump high and are not so bad in the air.
"I think that`s only what I can bring different because, technically, I think Thierry is very good and Van Persie is amazing touching the ball."
Unless Wenger see's fit to spend big in the coming 2-3 weeks, Arsenal's main attack will be comprised of Henry, van Persie & Adebayor, 3 completely different pieces to a very exciting jigsaw.
