It's Time For Thierry Henry

Thierry Henry is one of the best players in the world, of that there is no question, from any section of fans the world over, so why is he so frequently over looked for the World and European awards?

The Arsenal captain was narrowly pipped to the title of World player of the year in 2003 & 2004 even though his goal scoring and assist rate were instrumental in leading Arsenal the FA cup & League glory, & helped the Gunners acheive immortality by becoming the first English side to go an entire campaign unbeaten in over 100 years (and that was only 18 games).

However, if you look at Henry's statistics it is staggering to think that he has never ever been awarded either European or World player of the year. Henry has scored more than 30 goals in all competitions in his last five seasons in a row in an amazing show of consistency, winning the Premierships golden boot in four of those five seasons.

His honours include a world cup winners & runners up medal, he has also won the European Championships with his home nation. One French league title & French super cup, two premier league titles, three fa cups, two charity sheilds, four golden boots, two European golden boots, A UEFA cup runners up medal and he also captained the Gunners to this years Champions League final. Impressive huh?

Henry has also scored a massive 49 Champions League goals, I'm not sure how many that is off the top scorer but it's not many I know.

Maybe it's because his record in international football isn't that great, because Henry never performs for France, right? Wrong! Titi has scored 36 times in 83 appearences for France.

How can a player with such impressive statistic be passed over so many times? Is the fact that these awards are voted for by International coaches and/or journalists?

It's not like Henry scores all of his goals from 5 yards out or 'johnny hangs', his goals are goals of real quality. His style of football is electric and coveted by every striker in the world. Thunder bolts, amazing solo efforts, his trade mark finish into the right hand corner that all keepers know is coming but are powerless to stop. He is a great goal scorer & a scorer of great goals.

Henry is also a perfect role model for the youngsters in today's game. Doesn't drink, you never see him stumbling out of a night club at four in the morning (are you paying attention Ash?). On top of Henry being an incredibly nice guy, he has also spearheaded a campaign to kick racism out of football by helping founder the 'Stand up, speak up' organisation.

So after leading Arsenal to a Champions League final, narrowly missing out on a second World Cup Winners medal, winning another golden boot and becoming the first player to win the 'Football Writers Award' three times, will this be Thierry Henry's year?

I can't tell you that, but it's time for me to stop arse kissing and let his football do the talking, the new season is upon us and it won't be long before Le God is banging them in for the Gunners once more.

I believe it is a farse. He has been the best striker for 3 years running and loses out to ponsy Ronaldinho who scores/creates less goals together than Henry. It is a total balls up of the title "World Player of the Year". If it was voted for by real people not politicians he would win it.

i think it has something to do with commercial. advertisements like adidas & nike showing some other stars parading their skills on tv swayed the votes away. i maybe wrong but statistically (goals, assists, dribbles etc), henry performed much better than zidane in 2003 & ronaldinho in 2004. maybe points were given based on flair rather than statistics.

yep even 39 goals, a premiership and great perfomances in cl and fa cup wasnt enough in the same year that barca underperformed and didnt win la liga and wern't in cl but ronaldinho won.
simon
as a neutral observer i must agree it puzzles me as well

i have dont know aswell why he gets behind ronalddiho but that guy is nothing henry scores more creats more a better person great personality and also the best striker in the world so i think when those guyz vot they should think this time we dont want another ronaldinoho(Moneky)to become world player of the year ***** him:D

Quote,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Thierry Henry is one of the best players in the world, of that there is no question, from any section of fans the world over, so why is he so frequently over looked for the World and European awards? eeerrr because the people that matter do not think the same way as a biased Arse&al fan!!!!!! der!
sidyid
The day Michael Owen won European Player of the Year, those awards became completely meaningless. I'll just settle for him weaving his magic at the Arsenal.

Oh and btw sidyid, when I commented on an article about Arsenal ticket prices on the Spurs vital website you accused me of being a closet Spud. Why are you commenting on articles about TH? Is it because you lurrrve him?
Little Dutch
its cos he plays for us...at highbury at least.think about ronaldinho...nou camp...zidane...bernaubau...shevchenko (was)...san siro. when they won it they were playing for the biggest clubs and biggest stadiums in the world...the year in questions arsenal were nowhere on the world stage...euro quarters...no pre season tour of asia/u.s.a...no global marketing campaign...not nessacrily a bad thing...but it don't thrust thierry henry in2 the faces of people in the places where football ain't as big as it is here...people in japan supporting fulham jus cos inamoto plays for em...that kind of thing.so this is his season...one of (if not the) best stadiums in the world...win some silverware and i rekon it could b hiz!...thats why i rekon hes never won it
sammylash
i already knew henry was the best player i dont see why anyone else cant
kenyanrudeboy2
interesting points sammy as for sidyid any lover of football even a spud would appreciate that henry deserves the accolades he has been denied thats. we were simply wondering why all the stats in the world speak overwhelmingly in his favour yet...

This awards are a complete joke. No player outside of Barca or Real have won it in quite some time. Uefa are under the impression that the Spanish League is the only league in Europe. I wonder sometimes whats behind this. Even for racism there hit with minimal fines. If Henry doesn't get it before he retires it will be a complete travisty. Without doubt the best(most consistant at least!) player the premiership has seen since it's conception.

Henry is a terrific player, but has to have a really big game on a big stage to get the recognition that he deserves.

TH is one of the most deserving players that as never won this award, it is most likley to be the same again this year coz ronaldihino has wo the chaps league ect but henry is more consistant and a far better player then old buck tooth would ever be, let all hope he will get the credit that he truley deserves this year and gets the world footballer of the year

COS HE CHOCKS ON THE BIG OCCASION

More like the silence of "what the ***** are you on?" It's Ok to read the papers, but don't take everything they say to heart.

I dont think "THE KING" will get a WPOY title. I think only Ronaldo (in his prime) was better than him as a player. But playing in the Prem dosnt seem to help these days and now hes defected from nike to reebok I dont think he well get it. I hope im wrong. But since i heard that one of the directors of Barca was ceo of nike and the way Henry slaped em in the face with there contract offer barca&nike (hahaha) he's up against it. N E ways everyone knows that those titles dont have much creedence unless we win the titles come on u gooners.

By the By did N E One see Theo's goal !!! Pure quality incarnate im so happy for him I want him to break into the 1st team and stuff the Chavs, the mancs & the pool. Theo...Theo

and RVPs goal yesterday was amazing. I heard Hleb scored aswell.
StryfedaGunner
in my eyes henry doesn't need to win it because any true football fan knows wat he's about and would love him in their team. also the EPL is a far tougher league than the spanish league and yet henry manages to finish top goal scorer domestically and in europe. henry is simply the best and signed that contract because he knows that the arsenal although not there yet, but nearly will become the best sooner than u guys think. trust in arsenal because we will bring football to the next level, not even barcelona will be able match. p.s. sidyid henry did score a memorable goal against spurs a few seasons back? if a tottenham player did that to us or any team i'd seriously consider rating them. henry will get the award in his career don't u worry...
protocal
he duznt need to win it but it would be great and he should
ArsenalRob
He WONT GET BECAUSE HE CHOKES ON THE BIG OCCASIONS. Fact..
