Henry Running On Fumes

Henry Running On Fumes

Arsenal captain Thierry Henry has revealed that he is nowhere near being match fit, and it was noticable.

Henry played his first competitive match for Arsenal since that fateful night in the Champions League final, and against Aston Villa it showed.

He had a number of opportunities but blazed them all over the bar, he engery levels were also clearly lacking as the usual pace and stamina were nowhere to be seen.

However, Henry believes his pre-seaon will come in the first few games of the Premiership campaign.

'I am not even at 60 percent, no way near,' Henry said in The Sun. 'While Freddie Ljungberg tried ever so hard, and you have to give him credit for that, he is not fit either.

'Fitness-wise, I need another month. Certainly four or five games.

'Obviously players who were at the World Cup are in a similar position. But, this was only my second game while it was Freddie's first.

'Our preparation games are league matches rather than pre-season friendlies.'

Considering these facts, it's more than likely Henry will take to the pitch to face Dinamo Zagreb on Wednesday. Not because he is needed as the tie is almost certainly dead, but just as an exercise in fitness.

I get worried that we burn TH out. Obviously at the moment his lack of fitness is understandable (cheers again France). But we played him with an achilles injury for two years and these things have a habit of catching up with you (see Roy Keane). I'd like to see the team trust our players more, everybody seemed to want to just pass to him on saturday, even when Adebayor/ Freddie were in better positions. I also think the RVP/ Ade partnership has legs on it, so I think we should rest TH for the odd game this year, or bring him off when we're 3-0 up. If we do that in every game where we have a sizeable advantage, the minutes will rack up.

Too much football this year, hope we don't see a rash of injuries across the PL as a result.

the other players are scared to shoot or do anything unless it goes through Henry because he is such a big influence on the team. perhaps rightly so, but when he is not fit, the other players need to do the business without regard of Henry's ego.

Look at that mug up there. The face of Dorian Gray!

it was pretty *****ing off to see everyone not shooting. henry was way off the tempo, hardly remember him during the game. he just needs games. hope to see him play on weds, should be a good run out. and i dont think its because of hnery's ego. its natural the players look up toi him as he is the best in the world, but they do need to start playing a bit more simple. i was dying to see a nice roclet from toure!

i have not seen TH playing like this for a good few years but a summer of football and a new season this guy must be exausted, i do think that we should be resting him for the odd game this season and give him a rest

Not a round that really saw any upsets with the majority of those expected into the quarter-finals making it - arguably West Ham's win against Chelsea was the only one.
