Ashburton: By Appointment Of HRH

Ashburton: By Appointment Of HRH

Peter Hill-Wood today sensationally announced that Ashburton Grove will be officially opened by Her Majesty The Queen.

I thought that the stadium was already officially open having already played four games there, but this is a great honor nevertheless.

The Queen very rarely has anything to do with football but on this ocassion her and her husband, The Duke of Edinburgh, will embark on a trip to North London to officially open our grand new arena.

Peter Hill-Wood said, "We are absolutely delighted that Her Majesty is to officially open Emirates Stadium. It is a true honour and we are immensely looking forward to welcoming Her Majesty and The Duke of Edinburgh to our new stadium next month. In 1932, the West Stand at Highbury was officially opened by the HRH The Prince of Wales, so we are again extremely honoured to have Royalty mark the start of the next chapter in the history of Arsenal Football Club.'

It seems quite appropriate that the Queen of England should officially open the new home of the Kings of London.

Nice one, Queen!

Well whoop-dee-doo. I would rather we were not cursed by the wizened old crone. "Oh your ladyship, you honour us by visiting our pile." And someone tell her mildly cretinous, socially autistic husband not to offend any of the multitudinous countries represented in the Arsenal team, or try to grab Faye White's arse. I'm off to write a banner shouting Mad Jens is the only German allowed on the pitch at NHOF until Hamburg arrive.

Presumably Chelsea will try and top that by getting Putin to do the same at a 'renamed' Stamford Bridge!

Well, this news item gets off to a poor start! The headline states HRH when The Queen is HM and not an HRH. It is sad that someone should write about a wizened old crone as if any of those things are a sin. No one can help being wizened or old - and to refer to The Queen as a crone is downright rude. The Queen normally does a great service when opening buildings; the place is "en fete" and the day invariably happy. There'll be few who decline the opportunity to be there or meet her. So, a little humanity might be better than the vulgar tone adopted. Her husband is hardly socially autistic - most naval officers are quite the opposite; indeed the man commanded a ship after being second-in-command of a destroyer at the height of the Pacific War (and seemingly respected for being rather enlightened when a younf Lieutenant). I think he deserves a better press: he seems like a reasonable bloke to me but he sure ain't perfect - is the contributor who thinks himself fabulous, so perfect? I think 26 October will be a happy day for Arsenal and for Islington and the visit will bring a lot of people much pleasure. There's nought wrong with that except for the miseries who write garbage and seem to prefer puerile criticism to sensible comment. Lester May - Camden Town

Brilliant, well worth millions in tax money every year, so she can open the odd building. And people complain about asylum seekers? Doubtless Phillip will ask David Dein why he isn't wearing "one of those funny Jewish hats?"

Camdentownguy, I don't mean to smash your commemorative plates, but where exactly do I imply that being a wizened old crone is a sin? And I think the queen can get by without humanity from me, in the palaces and jewels she seems so to deserve; perhaps this humanity should be considered her divine right. I hardly think her husband can be lumped in with most naval oficers. He is a clumsy, stuffy, racist, establishment dinosaur and I see little point your defending him. Whether I am perfect is irrelevant. Can only he without sin cast then? I'm sure there are enough monarchist gooners to make it a happy day. I simply chose to use the message board to show that not everyone is over the moon about the Queen deigning to visit. My tone is mine to choose. Peter, Hackney P.S. I'm sure you appreciate that I refer to little Cesc and not myself as the fabulous one
