Bergkamp To Play On

Arsene Wenger has revealed that the famous Arsenal number 10 shirt will play on, but only after resting it for a 'respectful' period of time.

Dennis Bergkamp, has been, is and will forever be an Arsenal legend. He has worn the shirt with pride and passion for the last ten years and produced some of the most wonderful football the world has ever see. In some corners, Bergkamp is consider to be the original import, the first player from overseas to really have an impact on the premiership.

“We have had so many monsters at this club in the past,” said the manager. “You have good reasons not to give the out the shirt numbers of Tony Adams or Ian Wright. But then we would run out of shirts. The goalkeeper could be No 97 and the right back No 73.”

Wenger suggested that it would give the shirt a lengthy lay off before it appeared again.

“I have not really thought about it,” he said “But you would have to look at the consequences. You would be reluctant to give out the No 10 in the season after Dennis retires. You would not feel comfortable about it.”

Dennis may feature in his last ever competitive match against his old club on Wednesday night, when Arsenal host Ajax in the last of the group stage matches in the champions league.
