Arsenal Miss Robert Pires

Arsenal Miss Robert Pires

The latest poll results are in, and the answer to Vital Arsenal member, Fran Merida's question has been answered.

The interesting poll, 'Which former Arsenal player do we miss the most?' was posed by FM, and I thought it would be interesting to find out.

My own personal opinion was echo'ed by 43% of our readers. Bobby Pires, in his pomp was one of the best in the world. His ability to link up with Henry, provide width and score some of the most important goals was second to none. And the fact he was a constant thorn in the Tiny Totts side makes Le Bob the most missed Gooner of recent history.

2% of readers, which coincidently is the same 2% who can lick their own elbows, think we miss Ashley 'Jose, I didn't expect to see you here' Cole the most. Yeah right.

Poll Results In Full:-

*Dennis Bergkamp 21%
*Robert Pires 43%
*Edu 4%
*Ashley Cole 2%
*Patrick Vieira 26%
*Jose Reyes 4%

Get well soon Bobby.

That's true, we miss his goalscoring. But last season he was pretty poor and had lost any desire so he had to go. You cannot replace a player like him, if there's anyone out there good enough to offer what he does in terms of goalscoring, we certainly can't afford them. Kaka is the only player I can think of who comes close. I think Rosicky is quality, but he's a different sort of player.

A natural play maker. Made fast tempo passing and through balls look like a walk in the park. Some his goals that were fantastic just looked simple the way he took them. I think Viera has never really been replaced though personally.

His telepathic link up with Henry was outstanding, his ability to get scrappy goals strange as he was such a majestic player! Il never forget him bamboozling Stevie G and crossing for Freddie to score when we were down to 10 men at anfield or his sublime finish over Schmeichel vs Villa.

Or his thunderbolt at Anfield, or his weaving run quick feet and nice finish in the 5-4 at SFL!!!

i absolutely loved pires for what he gave to our game, there are so many examples of his vital contributions,he had the knack of popping up and getting important goals at the right time, his close control and link up play was excellent, and he was never mugged of the ball, and was a very clever player, its such a shame he couldnt stay long enough to enter the 100 club, get well soon bobby

We are missing Pires only because we haven't found Viera replacement. In my opinion, Fabregas is the type of players who could easily take up front the rule of Pires. But AW is mistaking by putting him in Viera shoes. That is why we are forced constantly to play in 4-5-1 to balance the missing physical aspect of Viera.

we are missing pires only becuase rosicky hasn't played enough first games yet and found his feet. he is the obvious replacement, but he needs games and time to settle.. but the boy has talent and pires was immense for us, he will soon fill his shoes.
15/12/2006 13:58:00
rosicky is a different player to pires, i havent seen a more free scoring midfielder than pires. someone has to take over the second goal scorer's role in the team, and the only player who i feel can do that in this team is RVP..

Pires to Arsenal is what Scholes used to be for Man USA alway's popping up with the crucial goal! Bobby did guarantee us at least 16-20 goals a season! how do you replace that?
15/12/2006 17:05:00
Exactly Limpar11. I agree. You cannot replace him with Rosicky...he's a creator...Pires was both creator and finisher. I just wish Wenger brings him back at some point of time after he retires to work with our players. There are some invaluable lessons he could dish out to our players. Besides all the younger players used to look up to him. Its a shame...I always wished he would retire at Arsenal. Wasn't to be. We miss you Bobby. We wont forget you or what you did for this club. Thanks for all the memories. Get well soon and I hope you do really well in life.
