1-0 down inside the first few minutes and I was already thinking that maybe Santa may bring me something to cheer me up. My 6yr old son who attended his first game at The Emirates today turned to me and said ' don't worry Dad we haven't started playing yet' and how right he was.
By the 27th Minute we were 3-1 up and cruising, but it was the second half display of pure football that made me smile.
Chelsea and Manchester may be many points infront and leading the race, maybe the title is between the two clubs, but neither club have the class or ability to put on displays of such genius football as Arsenal. Arsenal have finished the year losing only once at home to West Ham way back in February when Sol Campbell decided to walk out at half time, and since then we have been undefeated at home since, a record only second to Chelsea. The difference between Arsenal and the teams infront, is that Arsenal play a style of football i have rarely seen in the Premiership, the slick, quick, artistic style of play is a joy to watch and really if they finishing were better it could of been double figures if the 6 were not embarrassing enough for Mark Hughes boys.
For me Wenger seems to find players in Adebayor, Djourou, Clichy and co without stretching the Cheque book as Mourinho does, infact I wonder if Mourinho had the limited budgets of other clubs would he either attract or find the players of the same calibre. Chelsea are only good because there Manager has inherited a good core of a team in Cech, Terry, Lampard, Robben, Cole and that spent vast sums adding to that, I wonder if another manager would get the same results as Jose does.. but then would Jose be able to do the same with a different bunch of players, some may point to Porto and his champions league success, but lets face facts, Porto had an easy ride to the final that season and were hugely lucky.
2007 will show what Arsene has in these talented youngsters, in my opinion one of the most exciting group of players I have seen in a long time collectively, and thats without Henry even playing right now. Infact they are getting results and are missing key players in Henry, Gallas & Lauren, Baptista hasn't had a run in the team, and Theo is still learning his trade, which points towards 2007 being the year Arsenal players come of age and put reward to their efforts.
Finally Christmas would not be complete after such a big win, without our little rivals down the road, who have been crowing recently of the 2pt gap, losing to a weakened Newcastle team and letting the gap increase to 5pts now, alot of spurs fans were telling me in the summer how Spurs are now a top 4 club and will finish top 4 and that how Arsenal were finished, well my little spuds after those 2 displays today, seems your end of year report will be, must try harder, infact nearly all our christmas's came true tonight when Wigan fought back to square with chelsea 2-2 until Robben decided to make the game his own and win it for Jose's team.
Merry Christmas one and all.
