Bobby Wants Another Year At Arsenal?

Bobby Wants Another Year At Arsenal?

French TV Channel TF1 reported that one time dazzling Robert Pires would like to spend his one last year in the red and white.

The quote: 'After my two years here (Villareal), I would love to play one last season for Arsenal.'

As much as I think he's past his best, I love Bobby (especially for all those goals against the Sp*rs:) and one thing he could offer Arsenal is an abundance of experience for a number of youngsters currently playing for us.

Probably not going to happen, however surely worth mentioning after the avalanche of great memories that swamped me when I saw this. Good luck Bobby, whatever happens.

bring him back, if DB can stay at Arsenal when he was 37, Bobby will only be 34 and 35 in 2008, and he can well score 16 goals to reach 100 for arsenal even when he is a bit part player, because his eye for goal is second to none. he will bring experience and quality to our side. and it wil be great to see him in the red and white for one last time..

I agree with luckys_10. Bring back Pires! Maybe give him the number 10 wouldn't that be something! I say 10 because Willy says he wants to ply his trade eventually in another league. Pires seriously bring back plenty of great memories and his understanding with Henry is almost telepathic. He's going supply the strikers even if he cannot score himself considering his drop in speed. I'm quite sure he can be effective. Pires was adapting his game to the style of the team last season. He's got something left to offer this side. Besides, Wenger's always mentioning Pires in his comments so they have a great relationship even still. Pires is red and white through and through. I wouldn't be surprised if he came to play for free.

hmmmm, you know the saying, never go back on yourself, and wenger has NEVER gone back in for a player. I mean he could have had Anelka if he wanted some time ago and he is younger ! Pires as muchh as I loved him is well past his sell by date, much slower than when he first came to us and i feel the game is getting so physical and pacey, it would be embarrassing, the era of his type of players i fear is fading, and at his age i can't see what he would offer, yes expierience but if thats what we are looking for, then sign a coach like Tony Adams.

While I feel Bobby's comments where a little tongue in cheek, I have to agree with PG here, let Pires's legend remain that way and not peter out into mediocrity!!
28/12/2006 08:07:00
but PG wenger wanted to bring petit back when he went to chelsea, so you never know, and it after two years, bobby is still fit and if wenger thinks he is good enough to be in the team for a year, then he may just call him back..

Even when a lot of people thought he was 'past it', in his last season, he scored something like 11 goals, and made the famous 'Vieira tackle' that led to the Cesc goal against Juve. He could back up our midfield perhaps. If he would ever to come back, I for one would not expect great stuff from Rob. A few assists, a few pounced goals. Anyway, great man Rob Pires.

Memories were designed to fade, reigniting them rarely brings anything good. Allow Le Bob's peerless legend to remain a fond memory, I cannot see the point of him coming back and compromising his status at the club as it stands. Besides, he was pretty disinterested most of last season if truth be told.

The guy is a legend and will be in the same bracket as (Adams, Rocky, Brady, Bastin, Bergkamp, Wright, Vieira, Henry) I still think we miss his goals from midfield and time will only tell if Rosicky can replace Le Bob?
28/12/2006 15:17:00
it is not fair to say he was disinterested most of last season. wenger didn't use him properly in the first place, he didn't start that many games as he used to, but still he ended up as our 2nd highest goal scorer, and he played a big part in our knock out stages of the champions league, and the way his career ended at Arsenal (The CL Final), i think Bob feels there is some unfinished business here at Arsenal for him..
