If You Were Wenger In January

Over on Vital Arsenal we want to know who, if anyone you would bring in during the January transfer window.

With the January sales only days away all the transfer speculation is set to explode.

Klass Jan Huntelaar, Miroslav Klose, Yohann Pele, Igor Akinfeev, Jesus Navas and Gokhan Zan are just some of the names being bounded about.

What are you views on the players we've been linked with? Who would you like to see come in? Should we move for Ronaldinho, Vieira, Buffon or re-sign Paul Merson.

No matter how ridiculos or un-realistic it may be we want you views so get yourself ovr onto our forum and let us all know.

well Igor Akinfeev is quite young ! and so is jesus, so they could qualify, personally i woould like him to sign an experienced player to settle the team and guide the kids.

None of the aforementioned. Boruc to replace Jens at the end of the season and Ribery, and one from Bale/Baines.

I would do my best to get a left midfield player LIKE Puerta or Ribery. Maybe a goalie. The current squad is strong - the only areas that need urgent attention is that LM spot.

Now why would Wenger get some young LB like Baines when he already has the excellent prospect Clichy at around the same age?

Getting the injured Lauren and Diaby back fit will be like 2 new signings. No need to spend!

I would sign Akinfeev, Richards and Kaka. The best young keeper, a very talented english defender that can play on either side and the best player on the world at the moment.

Peter, in case Clichy gets injured/suspended/whatever who would you expect to fill in? I don't want to see Flamini or Lauren again there. A good LB offers Arsenal width, creates more space, makes the opposition wide players to track back, especially the overlapping runs of both Eboue/Clichy. Plus, competition is always a healthy thing and since we only have a good Armand Traore developing, I would rather see Baines than Bale. Akinfeev is a bit short for my personal taste (185 cm) and too young (20), while Boruc is 193cm, 26 yrs, accustomed to the life on the island (always a plus) and has a substantial experience (World Cup, ChampsL, UEFA C., SPL). We've all seen Ribery and know what he is capable of, while Puerta is another risky Reyes situation.

The chances of Arsenal signing Kaka are the same as Cashley publicly saying he is a ****. Highly unlikely.

I wouldn't sign anyone (unless Eto'o comes a knockin), we have a strong squad, but we are integrating a lot of new players, I don't think throwing new bodies at it will help. Diaby, Lauren, Gallas and TH will all be fresh for the second half of the season and the Beats and Rosicky will only get better. Having siad that, I said in the summer I felt Buffon would arrive in Jan and that would not displease me.

wouldnt sign a left back as Gallas can play there, which in turn gives Senderos and Djourou chances when and if he is shifted. A goalkeeper in the summer but nothing now.

Maybe a goalie to settle in before Lehman goes, so that when Lehman goes, the dude will have well adapted. Other than that, if someone top top became available, I'd buy. Like Ronaldinho, Eto'o , Kaka, etc. Otherwise me thinks we're good. No Torres for me. Oh, and maybe we could do with better LB back up other than the usual suspects. Not that Flamini was bad there last season, not that Gallas is bad there, but maybe a more "proper" LB, so we have two fo them.

Other than MU visiting, you actually have a very soft schedule til mid-March. Should have the league done and dusted by then, all over but planning the parade route. No need to sign anyone.

sign a experienced left back to provide cover for clichy..

Gallas is cover as LB seeing as there's a couple of good quality standbys for the CB position. I just feel signing another LB around the same age as Clichy for what will most likely be 6-8 milliomn is kind of self-defeating. I would suggest that another SPECIALIST LB may need to be an option come the end of the season but not now.

Navas is the risk, Puerta's much more stable. Or are you petrified of signing another Spanish forward player ever again?! :-)

traore should be given a chance if clichy was injured he was great in carling cup im not sure of his height i think hes taller than clichy which is one of clichys weaknesses.

buffon would be the best buy for us, but would be better to get him at the end of the season, but i doubt wenger would go for him.

A keeper would be the only position I would consider strengthening. Craig Gordon from Hearts would be an excellent buy and I reckon it would only take 4 million or so!!

I wouldn't buy anyone. Traore will be good enough cover and Gallas can play LB as well. Buying a keeper to replace Jens in January is suicidal because all that will accomplish is unsettling Jens and throwing a goalkeeper into a new league whomever it may be. We have Diaby and Lauren coming back, so there really isn't a point in the centre of the park and RB. We have more than enough depth in the striking formation as well. Bringing someone in here will unsettle future stars like Bendtner and Stokes. So in other words - we don't need anyone...

ribery/nasri from marseille, even though i have a sneaky suspicion we have ribery all ready wrapped up for the summer, dont really think we need any defenders, maybe bale/taiwo, we need a keeper soon but im not too worried about that and i wouldnt mind a goal poacher, i.e huntelaar, but we have many strikers out on loan, so with our squad, when it gets fully fir we will have a very good depth in our squad.

gallas and flamini are not very thrilled to play LB, and traore is just too young to replace clichy.Plus, I'd have gallas at CB everytime. both puerta and navas i know nothing of their character and yes they pose a risk, mainly because only a few spanish players really settled and made an impact in england (we have 1 of them:). Reyes was a talent, but a very poor character overall. buffon will not leave italy yet, and between gordon and boruc my vote is for the latter. our midfielders need to step up the scoring (bar gilberto) that's why I think Ribery would be great as with his pace, skill and finishing, under AW's system he could easily get 15+ in a season.

SWP 21 million? oh come on fellas at this rate CFC will have to give him away for Free like Veron or Crespo! all the proceeds are going towards the boys from the bridge, they have recently lost their captain and their 300 million squad is down to its bare bones! please bid generously.

Traore IS too young for long term cover for Clichy at the moment. When he reaches 18/9 he won't be. It just makes absolutely no sense to bring in a Bale or a Baines. An experienced LB maybe but with Gallas already here there's no rush. Think Wenger will just wait and see how Clichy develops and if he stays injury free as he is a fantastic prospect. Many have forgotten just HOW good he is. And FFS he's taller than Cole! Traore even taller :-D Puerta is a much more settled player than the jibbering wreck that is Navas. I will ***** myself laughing if any club outside of Andalucia buy him. And an English club?! That WOULD be funny.

I'd bring back Pires if possible. Wenger shouldn't have let both him and Reyes leave. If Pires came back...we'd have one consistent left winger whio wouldn't be sitting in the treatment room for the rest of his career. He'd go back to being the super sub.

jesus navas once went to a game with spain on international duty ( in spain) and got homesick and started having anxiety attacks, if we spend big on the guy and hes homesick in spain what will he be like on a cold winters night at eawood for instance, too much hassle for me, ribery is the only guy i feel we need. And if lehmann leaves then a keeper also.

I dont really think we need to sign anyone, we just need to find form. Im still waiting for Rosicky to start buzzing because I know he can turn any match around and special to watch. Maybe we could sign another leftback but I would be content to hoping Clichy doesnt get injured and using Flamini there again or bring in Traore and giving him a go. Remember all the players we have out on loan too! Any news on Kerrea Gilbert? I heard he would be happy to stay at Cardiff for first team football but I would thought he did really well for us when he played last season and should stay to fight for the rightback spot with Eboue. He could defenetly give Hoyte a run for his money.

A f'n good chef to whip up some tasty escargot recipes from the next harvest at Arson's snail farm. Perry Winkle Grove anyone? And a cuppla saucy bar-tarts to make waiting in line for beer more rewarding. Other than that, league's pretty much won and we all await the interment proceedings for the soon-to-be-former chelski and manu managers.

Bring back Gio, so we have an experienced LB. Bring back Vieira, so we have an experienced CM. Bring back Pires, an OM that can actually score. Bring back Anelka, so we have someone who plays like Henry when he gets injured.
