Transfer Latest

Arsene Wenger has revealed that he has had bids for Freddie Ljungberg and Jeremie Aliadiere, as well as confirming that Lauren is in talks with other clubs about a free transfer in the summer.

Explaining the Freddie Ljungberg situation Wenger said: 'You have conflicting reports because you don't read our website

'He's a player in our squad. It's as simple as that - we are not on the market to sell Freddie Ljungberg.

'We had offers, yes, but I just gave you my answer. It is that we decide to keep him.

Arsene also said that he would like to keep sAliadiere at the club after he showed his class against Liverpool in the Carling Cup.

'Aliadiere? I want him here but can I keep him happy with enough games? My big problem at the moment is he deserves to play but there's a lot of congestion in the squad.

'He's a top striker and showed that against Liverpool. I, personally, want to keep him but I won't put a knife to his throat if he's not happy here.

'I want to keep him - he's become a very strong striker and I don't want to lose him. We have had offers for Aliadiere.

'Lauren is different. He's at the end of his contract at the end of the season. I would love him to stay until the end of his contract but, anyway, he can talk to anybody and we cannot stop that.'

i think we need lauren he should not leave
afghenry
i still think he is a better RB than Ebue and Hoyte and he defends much much better
afghenry
he was. we don't know how he would cope in defence after the injury.

Well at 29 when you get an injury like that, its hard to recover. I'd love to see him stick around, but if le boss does not think he can regain his sharpness, he is in a better position than us to make that call. Maybe he wants to leave, AW bviously wants to wait until the summer before committing him to a contract and if Ralph is not happy with that, what can we do? Freddie will be sold in the summer and we will buy Ribery, of that I am sure.

Wenger is showing too much faith in Eboue and he also feels that hoyte has a future here, like LD said, Wenger is the best judge, but if he is to take his decision about Lauren at the end of the season, then Lauren needs to play until then to show that he's still good enough at this level..

but losing Lauren will be losing another experienced player, and if we lose Freddie too, that's too experienced players gone, and while Ribery will be a good addition to the squad, he's quite young too. we definetly need 2-3 players in the same age bracket as Gilberto, Henry and Gallas to be a real force in the next few seasons. these players are in their prime, and it will be a shame, if they dun win some major honours in the next few years..

it seems strange to wait all that time and make all that effort to recover to fitness ready to challange for the first team only to bugga off to another club..

Based on today's press, I think he will leave in Jan, and not wait until September.

Ya it doesnt look like arsene is keen to keep lauren. otherwise he would have signed a contract extension already. it IS sad to see people go, but i guess its part of the re-building effort. like many other here, i was also wondering if its wise to let almost ALL our experienced players go, but whenever arsene's judgment has been questioned in the past, the questioner only ends up with egg in his face :).

I reckon Lauren's time was up. Don't forget we've also got Kerrea Gilbert who's out on loan. I seriously hope Gilbert is much better than Justin Hoyte. Freddie just hasn't been the same, even last season, hope he doesn't end up playing for the spuds.

From the sound of it, the best that Lauren can get will be a 1 year extension to his contract as he is now close to the 30 bracket. The tone from AW doesn't look like he is going to get one as compared to all the previous players in similar situation. Lauren having been out for a year will have a big challenge in himself in getting back to fitness not to mention match fitness which he will find it even more difficult to get as Eboue and Hoyte are now above him in terms of selection priority. I would say AW and the club should help him to secure a good offer elsewhere considering the contribution that he has made.

it is one of those problems, lauren is of an age where wenger doesn't like giving a new long contract, but we need experience and the kids could do with good role models. in the long run we can see the future of the club, but for now we need depth and players that have the experience of big games.
