Wenger Names 16 Man Squad

Arsene Wenger has named the 16 men (some of them are actually still just boys!) that will travel to Sh**e, I mean White Hart Lane for tonight's League Cup Semi Final first leg agaisnt Spurs.

As I mentioned, there are 4 changes from the team that made Liverpool look like Livingston.

Philippe Senderos, Alexander Hleb, Mathieu Flamini and Emmanuel Eboue come in for Johan Djourou (injured), Alex Song(international duty), Matthew Connolly and Henri Lansbury (suspended).

2. Abou Diaby
4. Francesc Fabregas
5. Kolo Toure
6. Philippe Senderos
9. Julio Baptista
13. Alexander Hleb
15. Denilson
16. Mathieu Flamini
21. Mart Poom
24. Manuel Almunia
27. Emmanuel Eboue
30. Jeremie Aliadiere
31. Justin Hoyte
32. Theo Walcott
43. Mark Randall
45. Armand Traore

Don' forget to catch the match preview (coming soon) and Tim Stillman's match report/rant/gloating that he was right about Song. :P

Fair few internationals with Prem experience there - should be interesting. Four first team regulars added to the squad. I think it will represent a strong starting 11.
Jacky B
I like it JB, getting your excuses in early :P
where is the excuse? Have you lot not been saying it dont matter if you lose cos the kids will be playing? Every word i said is absolutely true. Still, if we cant beat that side, which is still "under strength" I can't see us ever beating you goons. I was just pointing out i think it is stronger than most people expected.
Jacky B
No merida and do we assume that if Hleb, cesc and flamini have travelled that they will play? i hope not all of them start. there is no need to risk the fitness of hleb and cesc for this game. have them as subs by all means, just in case they are needed.
The only inclusion that surprises me is Hleb. I felt we'd line up with Walcott on the right and Ali on the left, I guess this means Ali and the Beast upfront. Probably have Hoyte at left back as well.
Little Dutch
LOL rocky7, Would you expect anything else?
look lads - Wenger obviously knows he had to bolster the squad a bit, you antagonistic lil ******* lol :-)
Jacky B
Dude, chill was a joke. Geez you Spuds are so uptight. Feeling the pressure? We aint, we'll just enjoy the two fixtures and what will be will be!!!
I think Cesc will be on the bench. I expect the team to be Almunia; Eboue, Kolo, Senderos, Hoyte; Walcott, Denilson, Diaby, Hleb; Aliadiere, Baptista. Subs; Cesc, Flamini, Poom, Randall, Traore.
Little Dutch
likewise hence the lol and smiley face.
Jacky B
I think Cesc will start tonight, I even thought so before I saw the squad. I think Wenger really wants this this time around.
He might want it to a degree but if he really wanted it the first team would be playing. The defence is strong but then Arsene had no choice there as both Gallas & Djourou are injured & the likes of Connolly are just not ready for a game like this. I think Hleb will be on the bench but I am sure cesc will start. Wenger already said that Diaby, Baptista, Walcott & Aliadiere will play & you know that Toure, Hoyte, Traore, Senderos & Almunia will also start so thats 9 of the 11 anyway..................Jacky B, are you worried about the pace & skill of Walcott against either of your left backs?? I have seen both of them play & must say neither has ever impressed me at all, I really think thats where our best chance of exploiting the defence will come from!!
Ashburton Gooner
I reckon: Almunia, Eboue, Toure, Senderos, Traore, Hleb, Cesc, Diaby, Walcott, Beast & Aliadiere.
I wonder what the odds are on Theo's first ever goal for Arsenal being at the Lane?!?
One of these boys could become an overnight hero. Comon you reds.
Cesc will probably start but i don't see hleb starting i'd be thinking denilson or flamini who have already played on the left this year starting with walcott on the right. Maybe the midfield will even be; walcott, diaby, denilson, flamini, i'd say traore will start cos from the hype his giving it sounds like he's already been told that
Ozi Gooner
A draw will do me just fine then we can tear them apart at Ashburton Grove like the last time they visited us! (cough, cough 3-0 cough) Either way, we rally have nothing to lose, the only thing i will say is that aslong as the kids dont get a hiding (well, the sun does shine on a dogs arse once in a while) then alls good!
i like the fact that Cesc is playing, he will pull the strings in midfield.. althought LD you may be right here, jackyB calm down, its no good for your blood pressure at your age ! either way the first London league cup final, something to be proud of as a londoner ! no scouse or mancs !
My systolic over diastolic makes for excellent reading, but thanks for the concern. ;-)
Jacky B
ask me again after the game though!
Jacky B
I am glad to see that Song is absent, I know he played well enough against liverpool, but I don't think he is up to it.
he is still young he improved very much against liverpool and surly he will improve by every match that he plays.
Jacky B what do you predict the score will be at the lane 2nigh?
I daren't say, but I reckon, if we wanna go through its got to be a win of some sort at the very least. You know i can't come on hear and say we are gonna win when we haven't done for 7 years, regardless of who you field. I think our failure to get one over on you is as much psychological as anything else. Did you know studies suggest that teams in red are more succesful (just kidding bout that last bit - though such reports do exist lol)
Jacky B
Oh and simmy, I'm not just right about Song, I'm right about EVERYTHING! I am the great Prophet Dutch and all shall bow trembling before me!
Little Dutch
haha Team in Red and white so we will see who is going to book thier place in to the carling cup final just dont care of the first leg, second leg is always important and i think The BOSS is going to field the Young Guns(dont worry)
but take care young Guns can crash you aswell like they did liverpool(and sp*rs are no better than liverpool)
it dont work like that mate, otherwise sheff utd would be in the top four. Agree about the 2nd leg though. Even if we win tonight, the tie is far from over.
Jacky B
Win it with the Kids, its cheaper, Arsen Wenger only has to treat them to a Happy Meal at McDonalds as a bonus if they win.
dont care about ***** United, but the team with Red and White in Norht London is far more succesfull than the brown of Sp*rs:D
***** United!!!! the name is a perfect match
right you are, but Arse are from south london
Jacky B
who says!!! i guess pain of the unlucky past
I take it you dont know the goons originate from Woolwich - The past was alright, its the present thats painful
Jacky B
OH damn, it said in the guardian that merida will be included in the squad, o well. Do you think if we get through to the final we will play a kids against chelseas first teamers ??
so if the spuds were man enuf they had to stop The Mighty Arsenal on that time so why are the spuds scraching their asSS now?? and by the way Arsenal are by far the most famus club not only in North London but also in London
i dont understand? We are indeed scratching our ass now, I disagree that you are the most famous team in London - even your beloved Bergkamp was a Yid!
Jacky B
after carling cup semi final is over(both legs) when you come to Vital Arsenal Site you will see a headline Like this (Wenger: Kids Can beat The Russians)
hazza, let's beat the dirt first and worry about the Chavs later.
Jacky, you nervous yet?? Spurs have much more to lose than we do remember.
Can you prove why we are not the most famus club in London name a team which has won more trophies and currently has a bigger fan base that THE MIGTY ARSENAL?? and at last one Question Can you tell me why did sol campbell left sp*rs?
Bergy was never a yid you scum he was only a hoddle fan, and Wenger should have included Adebayor in the squad, he would be useful to come on from the bench if needed..
of course i am, just the same as i am excited. but as far as i see it, we both stand to win or lose the same thing. A football match, and a place in the final
Jacky B
i was shocked how did he hear a name like sp*rs while he was in itly and holland
Jacky B, Arsenal are clearly the most famous team in London & have been since the 1930's. Thats not to say spurs didnt make a name for themselves but not until much later. Its like saying Everton are as famous as Liverpool when clearly they are not. By the way Bergkamp was never a yid, he was a massive fan of Hoddle not of spurs. The only reason that was ever brought up is because he joined arsenal & the media wanted a story.
Ashburton Gooner
Jacky B u did not answer me(it is okay if u dont have any answer)
Bearing in mind the amount of proper cup finals and league titles we have I would still say it is far more important to you fella. I've been to Cardiff more times than Gavin Henson.
However Defoe is a gooner!!
Ashburton Gooner
I beg to differ - Does that mean all your lot are not Arse fans - just Henry fans? Refer to that article (on here) a while back where the writer said he became a goon cos Henry was his fave player.. And Afg... the word currently says a lot.... A lot of banwagoneers - that is - lol
Jacky B
sorry, been away from desk, but can't possibly answer all that at once - though i take your points on board
Jacky B
We do have a fair amount of bandwagon jumpers (especially now with the new stadium). Believe me, they p!ss me off far more than they do you. We can only hope that their children are brought up proper Gooners and equilibrium is restored. I never had the misfortune of choosing a club as my old man took me long before I was old enough to go by myself and make a choice. I'll do the same with my kids too.
i disagree jacky B Arsenal a name with lots of popularity and people first Knew Arsenal then Henry coz Henry Become King at ARsenal(but if u wanna say it that way it is okay but let me ask one question name one sp*rs player that people will become spuds because of him being Great???
that is now an abligation to all Gooners hatspur
Fair point henry, but not that explains why you have the sort of fans hatespur and i just mentioned - not that i am too bothered.
Jacky B
so you mean sp*rs dont have any bandwagon?
Thats all from me folks - work is over, I am off home to get changed then on my way to enjoy the game. I hope you lot don't!
Jacky B
hope u enjoy some BEAST style Goals
I think bandwagon jumpers tend to pick successful clubs afghenry. 27,000 at home to Cardiff Jacky? Perhaps you could borrow a few of our bandwagons.
hahahahah hatespur that is funny the word success and sp*rs have a broken bridge between
For you spuds who are getting their excuses in early thinking that the team is stronger than the one that played at Anfield if as I suspect the midfield consists of Diaby and Denilson in the centre and Hleb and Walcott in the wide positions the difference is Senderos for Djourou at the back and Diaby and Hleb in for Cesc and Song
Anon 1
Always nervous when i see senderos starting at the back :-S he makes alot of mistakes these days ... kinda like Mr Cygan ... i no he had a great first season! but since then he has never become the defender he once was ... Is he the next Cygan in Disguise ???
thats a bit harsh on senderos he was great against man u, blackburn and liverpool in the fa cup. Also great for switzerland in the world cup before his injury. it takes a while to return to form sometimes
Ozi Gooner
lot of first team players in the lineup, maybe itz not only our kids that are going to play.
i no what ur saying ozi but i still fear when i see him at the back ... he can have great games but then he lets hisself down from time to time ... not always the most consitant in defending
