The Rumour Mill

The Rumour Mill

Well the January transfer window has just 6 days left to go and as promised, Arsene Wenger hasn`t signed anyone. But they say a week is a long time in football so there is still time for an arrival or 2.

There are plenty of rumours doing the rounds (for a change) so let`s look at some of the rumours.

Ryan Babel is the latest player to be linked with Arsenal. The Ajax attacker started making a name for himself about 3 years ago and has slowly but surely become one of the hottest young talents in Europe. He has admitted that he visited Arsenal earlier in January but he insists that it was as a fan and denied meeting with any Arsenal officials. Rumours suggest a deal could be done for Babel to move to Arsenal in the summer for a fee of £7-£10M.

Gareth Bale is another player constantly linked with Arsenal in recent weeks. The 17-year-old left-back has shot onto the scene this season with a string of fantastic free kicks for Southampton as well as a series of solid defensive displays. Ladbrokes have slashed the odds of him signing for Arsenal.

They were offering 20-1 but since they found out he is very good friends with Theo Walcott and a Gooner his odds have been slashed. He`s believed to be valued at about £10Million by his employers.

Martin Caceres is apparently being targted by Arsene Wenger. Caceres, 19 has been watched by Arsene Wenger`s scouts this season.

He has put in some solid performances for his under-20 national side as well as his club - Defensor Montevideo. Juventus and AC Milan have also shown an interest in him.

Seb Larrson is on his way to Brum for £500,000 apparently. The Swede has been on loan at Birmingham since the start of the season and Steve Bruce wants to make the move permanent.

Arsene Wenger is thought to be keen on the deal too after the youngster failed to impress with the small opportunities he`s been given in an Arsenal shirt.

Aliadiere is wanted by several clubs. Boro, Reading, Monaco and PSG are all interested in him. Arsene Wenger might be willing to let the striker go after admitting he can`t give him the first team chances he deserves. A fee in the region of £4Million is thought to be enough to secure his signature.

I like Babel, he's an old skool Winger. Gets it down runs at people and at the Arsenal school of football he could well turn out to be a super player.

Aliadiere is off due to loss of RVP I think. Given the fact we are picking up a lot of injuries with Hleb the most recent (out for at least six wks) would'nt be surprised to see a change of policy regarding new players, before the end of Jan, we have a hell of a lot of games ahead and seeing our CL squad getting decimated cannot be risked, with nasty fixtures in the next week (Sp*rs/Bolton) either of which could see at least one further casualty, feel a bit of Wengerly wrangling could occur. Would love to see Bale come, and if he watched last night he'd be mad to 'Lane it'

are we sure that babel isn't another Helder? but I agree we need more players, especially to play wide midfield.

Arsene might wait till the summer to let Ali go. Who is Martin Caceres? I doubt Arsene will splurge 10M on Bale.

just a quick question for arsenal fans, i wasnt that impressed with theo the other night, now dont jump on my back straight away, i do think/know he has got undoubted talent, but the kid has got blistering speed, yet i think only once did he manage to run at the spurs defence. why was he not a bit more like lennon and just have a go at us, he would of caused a lot of problems??? thoughts??

We must be one of the few clubs having a quiet January :).

The other kids do not have the same weight of expectation on their shoulders as Theo does RVP11. Personally I would like to see him play on the left firstly because thats where Henry started and secondly the best Goals ive seen Theo score have been when he has drifted out wide left. A goal would help lift that weight of expectation a little so heres hoping he gets one on wednesday!

babel has been likened to a possible new henry. Similar build and stature. whether he has similar talent as henry had at that age i am not sure of, i have not seen enough of babel to commewnt from a point of authority, but from what i have seen, he does look good. »»Arsene Knows««

Do you really need new players? Fourth in the league 5 pts ahead of Bolton, champoins league Guaranteed... no point going into the market for the sake of it. Wenger is the master of the transfer coup.

not that we NEED anyone but I agree with gazzap there about our width. Hleb and Rosicky are more central than wingers and the people who can give us width in certain games are few (Theo, Freddie) and you can spot the young one and the off-form/injured one there. I seriously doubt that AW will buy anyone, and I have this feeling that Ribery will join us this summer, with Freddie being sold or told to forget 1st team footie. I saw his goals yesterday for Marseille, he was waltzing!
