Bargains From The Chelsea Bucket

Arsene Wenger acted a little out of character following Arsenal's 2-0 defeat of Newcastle in the Carling Cup on Tuesday, as he revealed the cost of one of his players.

The Gunner's transfer dealings are very rarely made public, and when they are it's usually because the club buying or selling have to release the figure to the stock exchange, however Arsene Wenger has made the unprecedented step of revealing the price of Arsenal new boy, Lassana Diarra.

Diarra made his full debut at Ashburton Grove on Tuesday night, and, according to some, proved to be quite the catch.

When the Frenchman signed for the Gunners, many newspapers and Chelsea sites were quoting the transfer price as £5M+, but AW proved once again that he is the shrewdest manager in the business.

In a statement that seemed to be Le Boss rubbing the Chelsea noses in it a little bit, Wenger said to the Daily Star, 'We got him and I must say it was for a lot less than the number in the papers - just £2million.'

Diarra is the second Chelsea player to come to Arsenal in a matter of 12 months after Arsenal swapped Ashley Cole for Willam Gallas and a boat load of cash (which WAS more than the papers were suggesting if my source it to be believed)

Seems Arsene is enjoying extracting full value for Chelsea's involvement in enticing Cole away.
Amos.
And taking great satisfaction in it also. What a bargain.

Who needs Cashley Cole? We have the new all improved model called Gael Clichy, and he's not demanding 90 grand a week. Diarra is the new improved Makelele and he only cost us 2 million.
Wyn Mills
IM very surprised to see we let him go for so little, 2M for a player of his standard is cheap! fair play to wenger, the guy knows how to get a good deal!! even if it does pain me to admit it!! lol
SMOKIEJACK
Jack - I don't think Chelsea had much bargaining power on this one, I guess it was better to get something than nothing.
Rocky7
He is rubbing salt into an already dead sea like wound.

2M was a fair deal, considering he had only 1 year left. But it was highly uncharacteristic of Wenger to give out such details. When I first read it, I couldnt believe it until I saw the press conference. Looks like Wenger was just having a little fun at the media, coz he made one more comment on how Arsenal was listening to the media regarding the finishing.

Wenger's actually done this once before, a few years ago at a press conference he revealed that he got Henry for £5m, not the £11m that was reported. Fair to say we got a good deal there as well.

That was a clear shot at Chelsea...Hill-Wood went a step further calling Chelsea's claim to be the biggest club in the world by 2014 "bull****". But after what's gone on in the last couple weeks, it's not hard for Arsenal to be a little bullish at the moment, not to mention chuckling at the gang from West London. Wonder how Cashley's enjoying it these days.

Well after the game he played against Newcastle for 2 million he was a bargain to say the least...look at the tackle on martins which then lead to the second goal...pure class.
AB_Arsenal
LD, u sure that we got Henry for £5m? if really £5m, the world would not have kept saying £11m... £5m or £11m, we got a bargain. we r like a fast Ferarri built on a cheap budget.
fcdematthew
Wenger confirmed that it was £5m. The £11m bandied about was, surprisingly, due to lazy journalism.

I love to see us get one over on CSKA Chelski I have to say... but in truth the blues had little to no leverage in this case. Diarra wanted to come to the Arsenal and wouldn't agree to any other club... and with only one year left on his deal, it was either sell him to us now or lose him on a free next year. Either way we'd have gotten him, so Chelski took what they could get.
devvil
Didn't know about the £5m. A deadly eye for a bargain our manager has. Diarra looks a very tasty prospect at just 2m
Gunnerman
Taking a dig at Chelsea seems to be a new hobby for Arsenal employees. We won't complain!
afri-gooner
Well we might ahve got a good deal , but yet again it shows a lot about the kind of business the Chavs do! If you're loaded and spoilt I guess a few million here and there don't matter!
Andy-bayor
...oh and someone get rid of that filthy blue top from our front page!
Andy-bayor
So let me get this straight... we got £3M, William Gallas and Lassana Diarra for Ashley Cole, who even the Chelsea fans hate, and we have Gael Clichy who is even better. Either Wenger's a complete genius..... or Chelsea are thick as pig *****.
super_gooner
or both :)

A fantastic prospect this lad, many of us were a bit nonplussed as to what he'd offer us as we had'nt really been given a chance to view him at R.A.F.C. but having witnessed his outings in red and white thus far it's glaringly obvious that when Bert moves on this lad'll effortlessly glide into the team and offer more than adequate cover and options until this is the case. BTW R.A.F.C. don't have a bucket - they have a trough.
nikolaijns
so how much did we get for cashley then according to your sources. i like a didnt no much bout him before he moved too us
daveski
R.A.F.C. reputedly paid 5 mill for the Bentley swerver plus the generous gift of Gallas daveski
nikolaijns
LOL prits :)
KnightOfARSENAL
i think momo sissoko is alot better than diarra
