Almunia Determined To Stay As #1

Manuel Almunia has waited a hell of a long time for a chance in the first team, and he will do all he can to hold on to his spot.

Despite Arsene Wenger claiming Jens Lehmann was sidelined due to injury, after back to back blunders (the second of which being the only reason we don't have a 100% start to the season) we're all pretty sure AW dropped Lehmann to see what Almunia was capable of.

For me, Almunia has made a solid start to the season and his claims that the number one spot is his, appear to be valid.

Speaking with The Sun, he said, 'Now I can really say I'm enjoying myself in London, I feel the No.1 spot is mine.

'I have to grab on to it with all my strength so it doesn't escape me. This is my moment and I don't intend to let it go.'

Surely with more 1st team perfomances he can only get better. Jens is a bit to scary for me at the moment and Fabianski had decent game on Tuesday.

Almunia still has work to do, he's look o.k but there have been hairy moments. The difference is, Jens got punished for his and Almunia didn't by and large. As I keep saying, the competition can only be a good thing.

I'm still not convinced by him...if lehmann leaves the club then we need to purchase a new goal keeper of play fabianski.

Almunia doesnt convince me at all, he has been lucky that his errors have not been punished. When his head is right Lehmann is a top class keeper.

Yep, completely agree with the last post. There's been some really hairy moments, one against Fulham right at the end rings a bell, and that wasn't on motd.

Yeah he's been a little dodgy, but no dodgier than Jens. The funniest thing is most definately going to be the verbal salvo we get after Jens is still on the bench a couple of weeks from now...

We might as well give Almunia the practice, I doubt Lehman will be with us next season. He's already spoken about his desire to play in Germany again before he retires, so I was surprised he stayed with us this season even. I think his contract is over at the end of the season...

Almunia is perfect as a second goalie but I'm not sure whether he is as good for #1 spot. If we want win both PL and CL I think we need to go for a shopping in Jan... but again WENGER KNOWS

Watch Manu grow and grow, how can you guys knock the bloke? sure he has had goals scored against him Kanu? unsavable fluke Bale? would'nt expect him to save it, Wenger made the change and look where we are, when's a good time to bring Lehmann back now? maybe in the cups but CC belongs to Fabianski and In the CL my vote still goes to Almunia, I think Jens has just reached the end of the road with us and I'd be surprised if Arsene is'nt feeling the same way.

If anything he's been watching and learning from Jens' mistakes! Why throw a spanner in the works now?

i reckon giv almunia a chance, because if he improves and does prove his worth as our no.1 then we would have him for almost 10years at the club, cos he is only 30yrs old. how many years can jens give us?
