Tevez: United Are Favorites

Man Utd loan striker Carlos Tevez believes the Salford based club should be favorites to win both the Premiership AND the Champions League.

Despite United's lacklustre displays and, up until they faced a poor Wigan side on Saturday, their inability to score goals, Tevez reckons they should be favorite due to the fact they 'have special players'.

'Arsenal are the leaders in the table but Manchester United should be favourites for the title and the Champions League,' Tevez told the Mirror

'I think we will show that and prove it to our opponents when we play them in the key matches this season. United have special players and Cristiano Ronaldo is the best in the Premier League.'

'He is ideal, great and easy to play alongside because he provides assists and scores goals.'

Another United player has spoken about Arsenal's chances in a more rational manner, and indeed his opinions are something that concern me as we gooners are getting a little carried away.

Patrice Evra thinks our true test will come after suffering our first league defeat of the season.

'There is no doubt that Arsenal are a stronger side than they were last season, but I don't think we will know about this team until they lose,' the Frenchman said in The Sun.

'That's the important time when you look to see how a team reacts. It is how you bounce back.

I don agree tho' that United are favourites. Man, is that fella ugly??
hatespur
We were 25/1 at the start of the season....I wish I'd have had a cheeky score on it. I still think that Evra is correct though, how we bounce back from our first defeat will shape our whole season.
Rocky7
It does look like they removed his head and sewed it back on - the wrong way round. If ManU started firing, then they might be favourites. I'm happy to remain an 'underdog' sitting on top of the league... anyway shouldn't we be talking about this after Xmas?
Andy-bayor
To be talking about titles two months into a ten month season is a bit premature whoever it comes from. I am happy for Tevez and Evra to put the weight of expectation on Utds shoulders. Statements like theirs always have a 'whistling in the dark' element to them. Some claim we haven't played anyone yet but 3 of our 8 Premiership games have been against teams in the current top 6. Bouncebackability has become something of a footballing cliche but lack of fear is an advantage of youth so though, traditionally we have a wobble around November time, I think the squad is better equipped to cope than in recent seasons.
Amos.
Even talk about it after Anfield and Man Yoo at home. Our hardest games so far have been Blackburn and West Ham away. Far too early. just enjoy the fact that we have won the games we should be winning.
hatespur
Don't think Arsene is in any mood to engage with this type of talk right now either - he's going to let the football do the talking.
Andy-bayor
did he always say that he had the prettiest wife in the world?
fcdematthew
And what if we don't lose? 50 games unbeaten anyone?
WouldYouBelieveIt?!
He shouldn't be allowed out before the watershed.
hatespur
i hope nobody will know how good we actually are (by not losing any game).. sounds impossible, but we have done it before... too good to be true.. hehe
fcdematthew
You know, there's some players can get away with wearing an Alice Band - Tevez, I'm afraid, isn't one of them!
herringthorpe
its too early to say that Man usa are favourite for title and champions league isnt it??
afghenry
I agree with him, they are the favorites....but the favourites don't always win.
AB_Arsenal
Tevez should let his football do the talking, he clearly hasn't got much going on behind that funny face, better to shut up...
afri-gooner
Evra raises a valid point, but I do think this team is equipped to deal well with a loss, and bounce back strongly. We have seen strong indications of that already. Time will tell. ManU are certainly favourites, and I'd prefer the underdog tag to remain firmly with the Arsenal !!
prits
You are in a False position just like ourselves CL is all you can wish for realistically. You have peaked to early and your squad is too small and you don`t win nothing with youngsters. True and honest assessment can you take it with out being abusive????
cockeril
True and honest assessment ? Its just opinion that's all. No more true and honest than the pre-season claim that Spuds were ready to break into the top four. No-one here is claiming the title - we'll leave that to those insecure souls that feel the need to talk up their own chances while talking down others.
Amos.
Maybe Evra's got a point, we need to see how the team bounces back from a defeat. But Tevez definitely hasn't had his medication. His words sounded like only ManUre were the only professional football club in the whole league. And cockeril, shut your cock, I'd like to hear when your "nowhere near match fitness" Boateng gets on the pitch. Maybe we'll see him in the reserves.
stukazufuss
As Amos correctly states cockeril, yours is a matter of opinion, only the table at the end of season will tell the truth. And over the past 45 years the table has proved you and yours to be down right liars. I think before you come on here trying to wind up and mock us Gooners, you should take a good long look at your team, it's defensive unit, management, midfield & that joke of a goalkeeper.
Rocky7
United haven't played well but have kept up with the pace. I still don't think we'll win it, but all talk is premature at this stage.
Little Dutch
A couple of weeks back we had some spuds here claiming that things weren't so bad as after 6 games they had the same number of points as last season. Now after 9 games they have 4 points less. Looks like they were in a false position a couple of weeks ago then. Evra says we need to see how we bounce back from a defeat. We also needed to see how we would cope with the loss of our star striker, we had to see how we handled being written off by most pundits, we needed to see how we would cope with coming back from a goal down, we needed to see how we would deal with the physical tactics of some teams, we needed to see how we would react to losing a 2 goal lead. There's no point jumping the fence until you get to it but so far we have done just fine.
Amos.
hahaha... so the man utd has conceeded we're the main title rivals.. whatever happened to the prer-season manyoo-chelski two horse race and liverpool doin it for the 1st time after god knows how long.. its suddenly THE ARSENAL leading the race, with a game in hand.. ppl been saying manyoo are not playing their best, anyone ever felt that is the best manyoo can produce this season?.. well good on em that they put the pressure on their shoulders while we r left to play our beatiful football with no extra weight on our back.. we'll see in may
McGooner
I think Evra talks alot of sense, but cockeril and Tevez are talking out of their arses. Tevez "United have special players like Ronaldo" Ok Tevez what do you call Fabregas and RVP who have 4 and 5 times the amount of goals u have this year respectively? And for cockeril statement I really need no explanation. Wasnt that the same guy who said we would finish midtable without Henry? Maybe he should of been more worried about Spurs getting relegated.
gunnerkid107
Evra talks some sense, but does saying it in the first place have sense? It wouldn't take a "football scientist" to come to the same conclusion. Of course defeats will be a test for any team. Is there a "football scientist" though?
entropy13
It is too early to say who will win the title. but i still feel we are a striker short. if Arsene signs someone in Jan, which i think he will (and it will be Anelka) i know i've said that a hundred times earlier too, but trust me cuz i trust my source. When Ade goes for the ACN, we will get a striker, and if we can remain at the top or really close to the leaders around the new year, then we are in with a real chance. As LD said, United haven't played well but have still kept pace with us, if they dun start playing well consistently, then these results that they are getting every match won't come that often..
luckys_10
Gunnerkid ignore cocky, he never showed up after we spanked them at the lane, he was giving me big before the game, but he was no where to be seen on vitalfootball for a good few days after the game. let him talk now, we already did our's on the pitch at their ***** of a stadium, and then we'll ask him for his opinion when the season is over and we are the champions :)..
luckys_10
I think Evra is a bit right...how we deal with our firt defeat matters...it would be nice not to loose any match tho. The things is, we have not been known to handle defeat properly. The invincibles lost the Manu and lost the league...that one defeat demoralized them. Can u imagin waht would have happened if they had won that game ??? The same thing happened last season...the season crumbled when we lost to Chelsea in the Carlings cup final...then Blackburn followed (FA cup)...then PSG (Champions league)....the first loss for Arsenal has always led to a string of losses - from history. I just hope this team has developed a stroger backbone... However if we get through Manu and Liverpool succesfully...then i can say we are halfway there..
number14
Man Utd hav always been favourites.. we've always been under dogs.. i don think either team shud get carried away with form.. we hav loads of more football to play.. so its better we make our football do the talking..
arsenalrulz4ever
The league title will depend on who suffers the most injuries to key players. United are very solid at the back but if you take out either Rio or Vidic they start leaking silly goals.
gunner1981
the current signs are good.. strikers scoring goals (cole and yorke era) , midfielders scoring goals (pires and Ljungberg), and not many injuries. the only worrying thing is the defence.
fcdematthew
still to early for that, all of the top 4 can win it still
muffdaddy1983
number 14 we can respone well to a loss aswell, think back to the invincibles we got knocked out of the fa cup and champions leauge in the space of a week we still didnt loose in the prem its all about whats motivating the team and this year i honestly belive the leauge is our priority.
Jaybods
Jay..i quite agree to that about the invincibles..but i dare to say we were on track to winning the league (or least performing better than wer did) untill the defeat to Manu...it a while to get steady after that loss. If we can keep our spirits high this season then we can go all the way. I quite agree that it is too early, however, if this young team must keep its morale high and launch itself into the established team for years to come then we must win some silverware this season.
number14
jay & number14 what you have remember is that you dont have the key players from that year so dont get to carried away this team could get beat and then find it hard to get back on track any thing is possible in football
muffdaddy1983
True. Anything is possible in football, so I suggest we leave Tevez and company to keep blabbing while The Gunners do our talking on the field. In good time we'll all know. Its still too early to talk anyway. Its all mind games designed to destabilise and work our boys up. But I'm sure they will handle it appropriately. There's no need to respond in like terms. Non-verbal communication with ManU will be apt at this time.
Warri Gooner
This team lost a few games last season, so they are no stranger to one, unlike the invincibles (the comparisons to which I find tenuous anyway). There is no point looking back to last year, coz this is a different team. We have the same players but the self-belief and togetherness are a different level, and we will react differently to a loss as well.
prits
Well said prits. I believe you.
Warri Gooner
I think United are faves, they are the champs and it is up to us to depose them. We are still a young and growing team, we have yet to face real crisis this term so the point is well made that how we respond to defeat will ultimately decide how we end up this season.
GunnerBlood
so i suppose the best thing to do is not to lose a game.....
fran merida
ha! so the mind games begin eh? Fergies minions out to do his talking for him are they? gotta love it...I am, like everyone else, very cautious about our chances this season, but win it or not, feel privileged to witness the growth of what may well be the best Wenger side to date...
KaoTeK
I can't believe this... Freddy Krueger is alive!
k_chelski
i agree with you prits, the current team is "responding" to the defeats we suffered last season. they said it affected them personally, so thats why they busted their humps in preseason to start this season well. if we do suffer a defeat, i reckon it wont affect us as much as previous seasons. as for comparisons to the invincibles? lets talk in may!
supersof
You have not played anyone decent yet.... I have never claimed we will finish 4th this season.
cockeril
cockeril, u a spurs fan? Yet you claim that Arsenal has not played anyone decent. Given that we have played Spurs this season, that would make Spurs a side thats not decent? LOL. For the 1st time in your life, you have made an insightful footballing observation.
prits
It's also worth making the observation that we have played 3 of the teams occupying the current 5 places below us.
Amos.
Cockeril we were hoping you and your brethren had all gone off to lick your wounds , and we'd hear no more from you till Xmas... instead you are doing like the comical baddie in some horror movie.. shoot the bugger but up he gets... run him over, cut him in two, still he gets up! 17th but still barking lol!
