Wenger Mpressed with Mputu

You may well have heard of Tresor Mputu, the 20 year old Congolese striker who it was rumoured Arsenal were interested in.

He has subsequently come to spend time with Arsenal, on a trial, reported to be for a ten-day duration.

It appears that he's done himself no harm during his trial spell either, for earlier on today, Arsene Wenger spoke to Arsenal.com and expressed his positive thoughts about the way Mputu has conducted himself so far during his time with the club.

He is on trial and I have to go down to test him today.

He is a creative player and wants a chance in Europe. He has impressed so far.

The Gunners official website gives some details about Mputu's scoring exploits so far for his current club, TP Mazembe, in Africa's equivalent of the Champions League.

In his first four games in the competition, Mputu hit the net nine times, including two hat-tricks. Meaning that in the other two games, he got only three goals, which is, quite frankly, a pathetic return. Send him packing, Wenger.

I jest, of course.

Mputu's also tucked away five goals in ten outings for DR Congo, so it would certainly seem he knows where the net is.

Of course, there's no guarantee that Arsene, even if he is impressed with Mputu, will decide to sign the lad on a permanent basis. He was reported to be impressed with Wilson Palacios, the Honduran winger, during his time on trial, but in the end recommended him to Steve Bruce, who, as a man who knows who to listen to and who's opinion to value, promptly took a look at Palacios and signed him!

However, who knows, it might be that Mputu makes the sort of impression that you don't see very often. If Arsene signs him, rest assured that he's seen something in the player that have us all rather excited.

I know we all have faith in AW and respect his opinion and judgment, but don't you all just crave for an established, high-profile player that would bolster the squad instead of Mputus and Palacioses? Don't you just wish a player like Kaka that would knock you off your feet? Don't get me wrong, Mputu could be the real deal, but I would love if AW forked out 20 mil. just to shut up desperate men like me :)

One of the reasons we have a sustainable cashflow and an admirable account balance is because Wenger does not allow the player pay scale to escalate out of control. When players like Kaka starts to demand something like 120k/week, other players will follow suit. We did pay Henry over 100k/week though but he had served the club well albeit we only paid him that kind of wage for 1 season

toffeetower, i presume you're an everton fan? On FM07, Manuel fernandes was rated higher than Diaby. Agree with that or disagree? :) Any further developments on your stadium proposals? »»Arsene Knows««

Glad to see he is impressing, if he is good as they say he is then it will be a good addition to the team at a very small price.

look who's speaking! the evergreens Wingers and kidK! lol. And easy there on Kaka. Him on 120k in an Arsenal shirt week-in, week-out is a big yes. Especially taking into account the VAST difference in quality between him and say Lumpard or Ballock. Any and every team in the world will have a place for him in the starting 11 unless they'd be literally MAD. Goofle, for all my efforts - I could not decipher what you were so cheekily trying to imply. Back to Mputu. Would he mprove our mpressive forward line or is it mperative to find an mple defender?

sorry G4L, i couldn't joining in! You do realise that my reply was Mpending. I think it's Mportant to state that although Kaka wold of course be a welcome addition to the Arsenal first team, it's so unlikely to happen due to Arsene's frugal nature with the club's cash. I hope you don't think my reply Mproper.

Lads I know we all support our players and often think they are better than they are, but ask where you would play Kaka and Messi. Come on!!

If Arsenal can get either Kaka or Messi, I would replace Adebayor from the starting lineup play either one of them beside Van Persie. I'm sure, if we ever get one of them (I know we won't since Wenger will never dish out large amount of money for them) but they both work hard and I'm sure they are not the type of star players who party long into the night just before a match like i.e. Ronaldinho or Adriano. I like our current lineup (with the exception of the GK, still has to prove himself), but we can make room for those players.

Maybe we should sign Mputu, then natralize him as an Englishman, just so as to impress Fergy and Macka. Either that or sign him as an African, and beat Manure 5-0 at old Traford!
