Arsene Benitez Set To Rotate

Arsene Wenger is set to 'do a Rafa' for the away trip to Sevilla in the Champions League tomorrow.

With the Gunners already through to the knockout phase of the competition, Le Boss looks to rest some major players with an extremely hectic December coming up.

Wenger revealed on that the squad will have the same Carling Cup feel as it did when Arsenal took on Slavia Prague.

"Some players will be rested for Sevilla," he said. "I will rotate and it will be maybe a similar side to that against Slavia."

Fabianski (probs Almunia); Hoyte, Senderos, (probs Toure) Gallas, Traore, (probs clichy); Rosicky, Cesc, Diarra, (probs Flamini) Eduardo; Walcott, Bendtner (probs Rvp) Thats my hope, with rvp coming on from the bench.

I'd hazzards a guess of Fabianski, Hoyte, Senderos, Toure, Traore, Walcott, Diarra, Denilson, Rosicky, Eduardo, Bendtner!!!

Its good that the squad is being worked in this manner. In case they are called upon later in the season, rustiness certainly cannot be an excuse. Plus its good to see players like Theo, Bendtner, Dudu and Diarra given a run in the team.

Just keep playing Bendtner! He looks like he has the potential to be up there with our sharpest shooters - he reminds me of the classic generic CF - strong direct and aggressive, good in the air and with quick feet. He also has good vision as we saw on Saturday, and can pass the ball. We must hang onto him. I would not like to see him playing against us!

I think this shows that the league is definitely our top priority and we are willing to finish second in the group if needs be in order to preserve our league form through Christmas. Wenger has spoken in the past about getting greedy and losing important games by not prioritising his fixtures, I think we are seeing that here.

Agreed LD - The season we went to the final we still played a very strong team against Ajax despite already having qualified, and we still ended up with Real Madrid. The CL is so unpredictable these days that 1st or 2nd doesn't really matter anymore anyway. We have 3 away games coming up, and AW looks like he's preparing well for all of them!!

I hope so LD. I'd take the Premiership over C.L any day. When we get into Man Yoo territory of winning countless Premierships maybe that'll change, but winning the league proves that you're the best team in the country and should be the priority. After all, Liverpool have proved that the C.L is competition that anyone can win.

I have to say I'm desperate to win the CL just once, just so we can say we've done it, but the league is the real yardstick. Wenger has said recently that he's stopped obsessing so much about winning a CL title in recent years, as is often the case in life you often find that that's when it's most likely to happen! Like when I was a teenager and going through, ahem, a dry spell, I'd give up and say I don't care then BANG.........I turned 18 and was old enough to legally purchase pornography.

hatespur, u still haven't changed the name as Tarttime suggested? back to CL, Sevilla seem to be going through a drab time, good chance for some of the 'reservists' to get a run out. Personally, I think Almunia has to stay in goal and continue to prove himself. I would go with RB Hoyte, CB1 Song or Senderos (who's fitter) and CB2 Toure, LB Traore, FWL Eduardo, CM Diarra, CM Denilson, CM Cesc, FWR Walcott, ST Bendtner. Bench: Fabianski, Adebayor, Gibbs, Senderos/Song, RvP, Randall, Eboue.

I've never been on a dry spell, I always found my way to the nearest pub with cheap beer.

LD - To be honest I think winning either the CL or PL would be perfectly accpetable this season ;)

I always found that a "dry spell" could always be conquered by going "ugly early". Fat chicks are always grateful. As far as the name change G4L, i'd probably take his suggestion more seriously if he hadn't had a 'tag' reminicent of a paedo.

Weve been there and done it with the PL, which is why i still rate CL as a slightly higher priority. RIght to say its a lottery whether you come first or second in the group, it really doesn't matter, but until we've won it, we will always get that same tired response from the Pool and Manure fans that we haven't proven ourselves until we have achioeved the ultimate european success. I'd very much like to rub a CL victory in their faces. HS, i'll let you have sloppy seconds on 16th if your still going through a dry spell! I'm sure she'll be up for it - as Lew said, after 2 years married to a back door mobile phone merchant. this could be our lucky day!

i would still want us to finish top of the group, cuz i don't want to be playing Barca, Madrid, Milan or Inter so early in the competition. and if you ask the team to choose between the CL and the PL, i think they will tell you that they want it both. Wenger may not be so desperate to win it as he used to be in the past, but the players who lost that final last year, will be, and i am so desperate that i would sacrifice the league and the unbeaten run just to have a shot at the final again..

luckys_10, that's the thing - who's to say that Barca, Real, Milan or Inter will finish top of their groups? With the CL so unpredictable, yes I agree the advantage of avoiding them isn't really guaranteed. But, the group winners do get another advantage of playing away first, home second. That I'd consider a slight advantage. And guys, yes, CL is a bit of a 'soft spot' for us as we've been going through a European dry spell for decades. But if you talk about which trophy we have the best chance of winning, I'd still say the league (Carling Cup doesn't count...)

Clichy is out injured, Gallas and Ade are rested. Hleb and RVP are still out. Wenger has confirmed that Bendtner will start, which is quite big for the kid. An away game against Seville in the CL - that vote of confidence from the manager itself is enough to boost self belief, not that he lacks any ;)
