'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Arsenal's 12 Point January

So, after 4 months worth of predictions, my tally sits at 2 out of four, which isn`t bad. Certainly still worth a punt!

December was a strange month, I`m not entirely sure what happened at Boro and Newcastle, maybe we really don`t like the north? It certainly seemed that way until we went to Everton, and then won 4-1! To state a perfectly apt cliché, it`s a funny old game isn`t it?

On to January`s predictions then, and as you can tell from the title of the thread, a couple of hiccups hasn`t prevented me being as optimistic as ever! I hope we can take maximum points from the months fixtures, if only to guarantee our place at the top of the table come February. United have got a couple of tough games but nothing too strenuous. With three home games and a London away fixture, it would be a little disappointing to come away with less that 12 points and miss the potential opportunity to establish something a little more substantial than a 1-2 point lead.

On to the predictions then -

West Ham - We are at home to West Ham on New Years day, this could be the toughest of Januarys fixtures. The Hammers will be on a massive high after taking out Utd against all expectation, and will be looking to do the same to us. Little by little, we seem to be turning the Grove in to a bit of a fortress, and I think West Ham flatter to deceive somewhat. If we can keep Ashton quiet then I can see a repeat of our away game earlier in the season, a tight but ultimately fruitful affair.

Birmingham - So the Arsenal youth academy versus the Arsenal senior squad. Should be an interesting fixture! Seriously, Birmingham have had an injection of life since the introduction of their new boss. Mr Mcleish has got them playing as an organised united, and lest we forget, they do have talented players running through the side, we should know, having produced them! Despite this, this is the first time they have played us since coming up, and I get the feeling that we will prove too strong for them. I`d certainly expect 3 points here.

Fulham - Fulham away could be a tough game, considering the rough time they gave us earlier in the season. However they haven`t been having much luck of late and currently sit smack bang in the relegation zone. Quite frankly, I don`t rate their chances, especially with England`s number one between the sticks. Arsenal win.

Newcastle - Of all the games, this was probably the toughest to call. Although we only got a point at St James, it is still a tough place to go to and get a result. And remember; our youngsters managed to turn them over pretty convincingly in the Carling Cup. Even with fat Sam at the helm, he is having a torrid time at the poisoned chalice that is the Toon hot seat. Although we didn`t manage to get him sacked, expect us to heap more misery on that insufferable oaf, Arsenal win.

You may have noticed that I have still to predict a loss, call in mindless optimism, enthusiasm, or whatever you like, I call it how I see it. I just wish every season would pan out the way I see it! Top of the league going in to 2008, let`s hope it stays that way.

Here`s hoping for a Successful January!

Happy New Year Chaps

Nice piece Gunnerman. I've enjoyed reading your monthly predictions. Keep 'em up fella!

As an optimist I also agree to GunnerMan's 12/12 predictions. The only worry I have (sorry I've been repeating it as the only major cause for concern this season) is how we cope with Kolo's absence for 6 weeks. I also hope that won't be as long as 6 weeks, but it's not unlikely that Ivory Coast go all the way to the final, especially if Drogba could be back for them. Hope Song, Djourou and Senderos will really step up if AW doesn't bring in a CB. And really pray Gallas stays fit and healthy.
Louisa
An injury to Gallas would be disasterous while Toure's away.

i have to echo the great gunnerman, 12 pts is deffo on for a 100% record for the month !
PUREGOLD
3 wins out of 4 for me - FULHAM will trip you up!

The latter games in the month are harder to predict because whilst at present they look pretty much banker bets, you just don't know if the teams will strengthen significantly & should they do so, it could well reverse their fortunes. On the other hand the signings could be woeful but thats why its too difficult to predict at this stage.

merlin, hope they dont trip u up tomoro.

I share your optimism...Let's get the maximum points possible this month!

Maximum points is a must for us this month as the CL is in February

I feel the same way GM. Today will prove if mine/yours/our predictions are set to be turn to reality ;)

Before this game, I thought West Ham was the toughest of all 4 league opponents in Jan. Very happy about the win and the way we won it. Our beautiful but effective football's back. And we're 25% there already!
Louisa
Thanks for the kind words chaps, I'm truly happy to be put on the front page! It made my day logging in and seeing it on the site. Brilliant. I agree with what you are saying Louisa, but we have a more experienced Djourou coming back, and Song has looked remarkably impressive over the last couple of games so hopefully we'll be alright. I agree that losing captain Bill at the same time would cause some real concern. Lets hope it doesn't happen eh? Happy new year all!
Gunnerman
And as I wrote that, Villa put another one past the spuddies. Just fantastic. Convincing win against West Ham so 3 down, 9 to go!
Gunnerman
Hey GunnerMan, Song's just been called up by Cameroon... We only have Captain Gallas, Senderos and Djourou for proper CBs, but quite a few versatile players who can stand in - Gilberto, Hoyte, Sagna. And Diarra and Flamini could back them up as full-backs if need be.
Louisa
Everyone keeps referring to Djourou and his experience at Brum, but he has been inconsistent for them. He was not even on the bench their last game. Senderos also looks shaky. Somehow, we NEED Gallas to stay fit, thats the one thing that could ruin the 12 pt prediction.

3 points in the bag, 9 more to come. Cross your fingers Gunnerman. ;)
