Best in the league? That's Arsene Wenger's view of Emmanuel Adebayor.
Le Prof is adamant that the all-action Togolese hitman is the top striker in the Premier League, and said on Friday, on Arsenal.com
Adebayor is the best striker in the Premier League at the moment, he`s mobile, he`s quick, he`s not scared and he`s brave. For me that`s a fantastic quality, especially in England.
He doesn`t get enough credit for his touch. He has good feet, quick feet, and is a complete striker. He can still improve the timing of his runs as he sometimes gets caught offside, and, just with that, he can score 10 more goals each season.
Two more goals in today's 3-1 win in what could have been a tricky away fixture at Man City see Ade's recent record standing at eleven goals in his last eight games - that is the total that many Gooners were saying they'd be happy for him to finish the season with, when we got underway in August. Ade's now notched 18 in the league so far, and if his proclamation earlier in the week that he's discovered the secret of scoring are true, then the rest of the Prem should watch out.
It's our good fortune that Togo didn't qualify for the ACN, as what with RvP being out and Theo still looking like he needs more time, we'd have been right up fuck street were we to have had to deal with being without Ade for a month or so.
Surprisingly, some Gooners still don't rate Ade, but surely the stats don't lie - he's at times been a one-man army and battering ram up front for us this season, has given us that all-new aerial threat we've missed the past few seasons, runs defences ragged. Blessed with pace and strength, and with a finesse that he's displayed in the past, he's going 'out-drog' the Ivorian striker at the Moscow State Circus. And while the Ivorian is 29, Ade is still only 23, and pretty much on a par with him already. The sky is his limit. We may be seeing the coming of a very special player, yet another Wenger master-stroke. The only thing that may stop him from reaching the heights he could do is, surely, himself - if he were to become complacent and think he doesnt need to work at his game. Fortunately, Wenger thinks this won't be the case,
He`s a strong character in the dressing room and a winner. He`s a guy who made mistakes at the start of his career, and has realised here that there`s another life rather than being easy.
He smells that he can win, and is a winner. When he realised that he could live in the big world of top-class football players it changed him, and today he`s a different animal, mainly mentally. He realised he wasted some time and it was time for him to be serious.
Another thing that bodes well is that he seems to click well with various different partners upfront. He plays well with RvP, he plays well with Eduardo, and looks like he might do something useful when playing with Theo too (in time...). He even 'connects' well with Bendtner (ahem).
