'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Acceptable In The 90's

You like the title? I do, it just came to me. A flash of brilliance. I enjoy them, they don't occur too often! It is, of course, a play on the Calvin Harris song 'acceptable in the 80s'.

As good as the title is, it's not that important is it? No. What is important is the comments made by Arsene Wenger to Arsenal.com on Monday.

With the title race so close, every point dropped is disastrous, every point gained on your opponent is massive. With the points as close as they are, even every goal is invaluable!

With that in mind, Wenger believes it could take a massive points haul to bring The Emirates Stadium it's first Premiership trophy. 'We have 60 now and that is phenomenal,' said Wenger. 'I don't know how much will be needed but it looks it will be around the 90s.'

As plenty of other websites have pointed out - Arsenal have achieved a points tally of 90 points only once in their history, and that was when they went an entire league season unbeaten.

Arsenal currently need another 30 points from their remaining 13 games. That requires 2.3 points per game. That means that Arsenal can, in theory at least, afford to lose another three games.

Despite being an eternal pessimist, I'd say that's achievable. Would you?

I used the BBC predicotr for the rest of the season, and we are due to win the title with 96 pts, by taking maximum points at Old Trafford, and drawing at Birmingham and Chelsea! Man U hav 90 pts in 2nd place, and Chelsea 3rd with 86

i think we'll have to create an all time points record if we are to bring the title home. and vlaw, if we have two draws, we'll score 95..

Eff off Bitc(h). Arsene is a great man. Anyway, moronio is the only manager ive heard of to have publicly assaulted a child. 90 points to win it eh! Wow, either standards are generally increasing or the small clubs like SPuds and CHavs are getting worse, leading to record points being taken.

Yes it sounds achievable. But ManU, and slightly less possibly Chelsea, can also achieve that, based on what we've seen so far for the top teams. Seems like it'll comes down to injuries and CL runs - maybe even goal difference (to Chelsea disadvantage).

Oh and Song's been doing well with Cameroon in the DCM role, so no Gilberto in the middle I hope...

At the risk of sounding like a boring old codger, let's take three points from Blackburn. ***** the rest of it.

I hate to bring it up again but this is exactly why I was gutted about Diarra's stupidity of choosing to leave.

Oops, wrong thread, sorry - I was referring to Mattuso's injury.

If you look at the remaining fixture list of those 13 games alone, winning 10 of them is possible. So it depends more on the factors mentioned above.

Reckon it could come down to Manure away, the classic 6 pointer, love to see us win and Manure drop another 2 points, which would take loads of pressure off the visit to Old Trafford.

come back it's the 0's now the nineties are gone

Tough ask, we are on track now, but I think all 3 teams will drop more points, as the race hots up. Less than 90 points may just be enough. Strange though, that when there was so much talk about the rest of the Premiership getting stronger, we are still talking about more than 90 pts to win. I guess the top 3 have gotten much stronger relatively then.

Achievable. Come on you Gunners'.
