Gooner In England Call Up Shocker

The fabric of the footballing universe was shaken to it's core today as an Arsenal player was named in the England squad.

In an unprecedented move that has made Fabio Cappello the laughing stock of the managers association, the Italian has had the nerve to pick an Arsenal player for the up coming friendly against France.

Extensive research has started into Theo Walcott's background as officials strive to prove that the pacey striker isn't English.

Meanwhile the 19 year old is delighted with the call up.

"I celebrated my 19th birthday on Sunday. So the call-up is a great birthday present for me. I`m looking forward to meeting up with all of the lads after the weekend`s game". said the ENGLISHMAN.

A few days in the company of Lumplard, Cashley and Stevie Me. Sigh, he was really starting to show promise as well.

Hopefully he gets to play 5 mins when England are trailing France, then he sets up a goal for Rooney (who else) to equalise, saving Capello's face and ruining Domenech's day. Whether I want to see Capello's stern face or Domenech's animated protests, I don't know.

Lou, he could set up a goal for Crouch instead. :) Actually, wait, you're right, it has to be for Rooney if it's going in.

This should be a nice boost for Theo. He does deserve a place in the squad and I hope he does well, although, I doubt he'll play against France in the friendly.

Haha, has he? Well then, let it be Crouch he sets up the goal for, or better yet, why not score it himself?

I guess he might get cut out of the trimmed squad this weekend, or stay on the bench.

Has he done enough to merit a senior call up ? This is only going to add to the hype, just when he was putting his head down and performing well for Arsenal. As much as the lad is happy, I dont think that this happened at the best time for him.

Here we go, another typical anti-Arsenal article by Alan Hansen. This guy has gone so down in my estimation. I used to like the BBC much more than ITV but people like Hansen and Lawrenson just get on my nerves and I'm glad they're going to lose their coverage. I so hope we dump Liverpool out of the CL just to see Hansen's reaction. Twerp!

And how many have come from the Curling cup winners? 1 Jermaine Jenas, How many spud academy produced players have caps for England, 1 Ledley King. Disgraceful. How many players are stagnating or going backwards whilst playing for spuds, Robinson, Lennon, Huddlestone, Defoe. Thanks for your input into the England setup, now feck off.

At least we have so many. You have only one 2nd rated young punk. BTW, you guys will be sitting at 3rd in the EPL after this weekend. Very high possibility yet another trophy-less season ... Many promises but no deliveries ... LOL !!!

"at least we have so many" So if you have a lot of fantastic features like a big nose, cracked lips and hairy ear lobes that makes you pretty right? Keep watching us and praying we come 3rd its all you have left for the next 2 1/2 months coz ur season is over. All those promises of 4th place and no hope of even finishing top half of the prem......with all those fantastic Englishmen.

In my opinion, it's not a bad thing that Arsenal have so many foreign players. In fact, it's these players that make the PL as good as it is today. Had all these foreign imports been plucked out of the Premier League, it wouldn't be half as good as it currently is and definitely wouldn't be deemed, "the best League in the World" several times over. Name the best 5 players in each big four club, and I can guarantee that about 3/4 of them will be foreign players (unless, of course, you deliberately choose English players..). The reason that Arsenal probably do not have many 'locals' on their squad, is that, those that have enough quality to be on our team are, almost always, overrated, overpaid, and arrogant.

Cheese of course it's not a bad thing. While we have no Arsenal to watch in the summer, we'll still get to see our players playing for their countries, and that's a good thing. ;) And btw, and for once I enjoyed Domenech's humour when he said about this friendly "It's like a Euro 2008 game." lol It's like how some clubs keep saying about otherwise ordinary league games "It's our cup final."

Theo's more than earned his call up...find another player in the England setup that's got his skill set. SWP is the only one that really comes close.

It's good to see Theo getting a call up - I remember seeing him play at Saints once and although he's not had the best time at Arsenal in terms of scoring goals - he's getting there now and deserves this call up. Although it might ruin the presses fun if Theo becomes an England hero - then which club are they going to scapegoat ridiculously for England mis-firing?

I guess Theo will stay on the bench. If used, do you think Capello would use him as a sub striker or winger?

The English players in our squad are rated highly. That's why we beat you 5 - 1. Or, are you suggesting that the foreign players in your squad are rubbish.
23/03/2008 02:44:00

I tried to resist to answer this one cos it's more like a wind-up than a question. But anyway. Our players, foreign and English (Theo and Hoyte played), were rubbish over those 2 legs in CC. There's a good old saying about form being temporary. You beat us in that 1 game you so enjoy talking about - by all means do so, I would've been proud if I were you, but I'm not you (thankfully) - and that happened after 21 games, 9 years. By a better logic (taking a longer term view) than yours (using one game as your sole benchmark), does that mean our generations of players have been consistently better than yours, over 9 years, no less? If you fail to accept that, now you're going back to your European cups decades ago to continue your wind-up aren't you?

BTW on your players being "rated highly" - by whom? Let's see whose opinion counts. The England manager, yes? A game vs France, while there's no Euro campaign, is a relatively important game before the WC qualifiers, yes? (Domenech's words: this friendly is "like a Euro game" which is more true to the England team than his own France team.) Fabio Capello picked Spurs' Woodgate and Robinson (as replacement after Scott Carson got injured) in his 23-man squad. Actually I'd personally have kept Jermaine Defoe on his recent performances but Capello wanted to give Theo a try on the bench, while dropping him and the Villa duo who I think are good enough too. Two of your players are for now just "rated highly" enough to make the squad. Let's see if they get to play for England consistently. Otherwise they're "rated highly" just by you guys for not much else. Don't get me wrong, I rate Woodgate too, just that we have to see if he can keep out the likes of Ferdinand and Terry and perform consistently.

Those days of Seamen, Adams, Keon etc are gone. arsenal is losing its English tradition. With no contribution to the national squad, arsenal will remain as the most hated club in EPL especially when England can't make it to the major competitions.
