Wenger On Flamini Cover Up?

Arsene Wenger claims Juventus are not interested in Mathieu Flamini after reports suggested the Frenchman had agreed to join the Old Lady.

In his traditional pre-match press conference, Wenger claimed that he had spoken to Juventus after they called him to say they were not interested in the steely midfielder.

'No. Juventus called me and told me that they were not interested in Mathieu Flamini.' Said Le Boss.

I'm not one to suggest that Wenger is on the cover up here, but I was under the impression that as Flamini is in the closing months of his current contract that he is free to speak to whoever he wishes? Would there be any need for Juventus to talk to Arsene?

However, I could be wrong, it has been known in the past.

Am I reading too much into this?

Plus, how many clubs ring up to say "You know that Mathieu Flamini? Yeah, we're not interested in signing him!!" ???
Rocky7
It's quite a specific denial. Wenger is going to look pretty silly if it isn't true. I would guess Flamini has other offers on the table - if not Juventus then there will be no shortage of other interested parties. How many of them are bigger than Arsenal though?
Amos.
I think its more, they called up to deny speculation that has been going around. I will personally run out on to the pitch naked on the first game of next season if he is not at Arsenal. That is how confident i am he will sign.
paul_ownz
I have only read, rather than heard his comments. However he did promise us that Henry would be Arsenal player this season.
Rocky7
it's very simple, if Flamini wants to stay, he is welcomed. he is one of us and i would love it if he stays. but if he wants to go, then he can leave. someone else will come in and take his place and do the job. i'm really annoyed that he has taken so long to sign a contract. what is the problem? why isn't he signing it? whatever the reasons are, we don't need all this talk ahead of the biggest game of our season till date..
luckys_10
Rocky, the difference with flamini and henry is that flamini is important, henry is not.
Goofle
Goofle, you are boardering on a "Mac" level of support for Flamini here. Flamini is an excellent player, but can be replaced, any player can. Henry was, Wrighty was, Tony Adams was. But as I said before I could just be reading too much into the situation.
Rocky7
whatever happened to the court case about the arses poaching/thieving flamini? and you had the cheek to moan about ashley cole!!

Theres always so much grubby journo guff flying around, I read today that he is wanting a new five year contract, seriously though I would be pretty shocked if he decided his near future lay elsewhere, last year yes, he was a squad misfit, now he has his position, he is always first choice, he has seen the results of training and patience pay off. What did make me fall off my chair with laughter was a piece today that stated Capello has given up on learning English and will instead be insisting that his squad learns Italian!!!!!!, oh man, the thought of Wazza, Fat Frank, Cashley, Stevie Me, Rio, and Big thick ugly John trying to get to grips with Italian, hahahahahahaha they can barely converse in their mother tongue...feckin priceless, Nice 1 Fab.

Every player is replaceable, yes, but i'm not quite shure that Matty could be replaced by someone as good as him. Arsene won't spend the money to buy an already world-class DM, and, although they are very good, I don't believe that any of the other DMs that we already have would do the job as well as Mathieu. Plus, it would greatly disrupt the balance of our midfield. Tommy, Cesc, Matty and Alex are all best friends aparently, it would be a shame were Matty to go.
ArsenalRob
lol nikolaijns ye that was an April fool report, but ye that would mean Becks definately out, seeing as though he can hardly speak English.
ArsenalRob
ah nikoljains has crawled out from under wherever!! didnt see you on here after the beating you got at the bridge, you're even too thick to realise it was an april fool!!! not as priceless as the french foreign legion trying to understand english at that flea ridden rat infested *****hole of yours!!! yes they had to call in rentokill to sort it out,
springy
boing boing bouncy, my word you're particularly cavemanesque today, while we're talkin about thick whose the grunt who includes Lou Reed as a personal hero whilst banging on about hating gays?? dooooooh it's you you confused lickle grunt, aah springys well and truly in the air...smell the prehistoric flatulence.
nikolaijns
Captain Caaaaaaaaveeemaaaaaaaan.
nikolaijns
Goofle what a stupid thing to say!! Do you watch the same game as me?
vavavoom14
I said he was important.
Goofle
I don't see it as a cover-up. Juventus making a call just to say that might sound a bit weird. But they could have been on the phone with Arsene about Gilberto or someone else, then told him "oh btw, don't believe the Flamini stuff in the press. We're not interested." lol For now I still believe Flamini's just trying to get better money/offer, if nothing better comes in say in April, he'd give up and stay. I think he'd get a few offers but maybe not great ones so he's still stalling.

How many nicknames do Gunners have for Flamini? :) Flamusso, Flamster, Flanimal...
Aamir
Don't forget Mattuso Aamir!, so whaddya reckon - you boys ready for some Flamalamadingdong tomorrow? :)
nikolaijns
Goofle It was saying that Henry wasnt important that upset me! I still miss the man.
vavavoom14
He was not important to the Arsenal of now. He only played a third of last season and we were truly awful. if he was still in the Premiership would he be scoring freely? You never know, but if Gilberto was in the team and not Flamini, would we be as good as we have been? No. just saying Flamini is more important to this team than henry was to us.
Goofle
"Flamalamadingdong" LMAO!!! You want to get that copyrighted Niko - Genius!!
Rocky7
nikoljains, lou reed has been married twice and is in a long term heterosexual relationship for some time, just because he hung around with warhol does'nt make him a homo, there were lots of beautiful women around warhol, and wheres your proof?now whose being cavemanesque and thick? the verbal crap king of the goonhead vital site..thats you!! and you got a beating at the bridge by the way, just reminding you as you conviently forgot!! thick feckin turd!!
springy
Hey Lou did you watch that late night BBC interview with Arsene?
jaelle
Are you having a laugh Goofle? Lets compare Henry with adybarndoor! I would rather have henry with one leg in the team than that useless ego mad donkey! And if you dont think Henry was Important to the team I suggest you go buy a few dvds! Of course Flamini is doing a better job thab Gilberto, but your dissing the greatest ever player to grace out club.
vavavoom14
ok first of alli dont think we hav or we will ever replace henry.......frankly i cant think of many players such as henry wen he was in his pomp, ronaldo maybe........the thing the way we play we probably dont really miss him but to be saying that he has been replaced is going a bit too far.
karley
Sounds eerily as though he will be leaving you guys, not that I understand why he would. Juventus are unlikely to win anything next year. They're still recovering from being down in Serie B.
The_Legend_Of_Zola
Hey Jaelle good question lol - I realised my TV was dead that night after I told you guys about that AW interview. But BBC always post those online. And here it is, I'll watch it later: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/tv_and_radio/inside_sport/7325569.stm
