'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Villa Dreams Of Arsenal Move

Much sought after striker David Villa has hinted that an offer for the player could see the Spanish frontman head for Ashburton Grove.

Arsenal's free-flowing football has caught the imaginations of thousands, and despite failing to bring any end product this season, many top players would remove a testicle to be able to wear the red and white.

Villa, who's current club are languishing in midtable, will probably look for a move away from the Mestalla, claiming he's hungry to test himself in England.

'I watch the Premier League a lot and the team I'm most attracted to is definitely Arsenal,' he told The Sun.

'Their brilliant one and two-touch football and the whole style of rapid counter-attack which dominates the top level of the Premier League now is the one which suits my game best of all.

'I think I'm made to succeed in England but of course it's one thing saying it and quite another getting there and then doing it.

'The Valencia president (Agustin Morera) always told me he wouldn't sell me until summer 2008. If an offer comes in I'm hungry to test myself in England.'

So Arsene ..... get that wallet open!!

Chelsea are not even 2nd choice. he said he would rather go to Liverpool with his mate Fernando Torres. They apparently really like each other, and play reallly well together.Poor chelsea, even the millions don't do everything for you..... If Villa comes, Adebayor-Villa could be good up front, with Van Persie if fit, Walcott or Bendtner back-up. Also i would prefer Adebayor on the bench, he scores but he needs 550 occasions before to put one in the opposite nets.... Don't let Liverpool buy him, cos Torres-Villa in front of Gerrard could be a terrific combination......
FloG
Clean the cobweb on your club's cheque book OR choose to clean the cobweb in your club's trophy display cabinet .... Up to AW to decide.
ivanskg
2 things: 1. weren't the spuddies interested in him (lol)? 2. apart from The Sun, there is no reliable spanish online media that have published this. I think it's silly season time again.
G4L
G4L - I know that these rags are despicable pieces of tat, but surely even they wouldn't go as far as to invent quotes like these? Would they?
Rocky7
nah they are real quotes and it would be a dream and in some cases perfect signing but come on Villa to Arsenal....not gonna happen.
hazzagooner
Free-flowing & exciting football + No trophy = Zero achievement. AW will spend.
ivanskg
I've been saying lately that we don't need another striker, but would someone like him change my mind. I'd love to see him in the Red and White, but you've got to remember, Wenger won't play anymore than 2 up front, which means, if he does come, on of Adebayor/van Persie will be on the bench, and if they're there for too long they might consider moving on, because personally, I think they could both walk into the squad of any team on the planet. Then the likes of Walcott, Bendtner and Vela will be further down the pecking order. As brilliant as Villa is, is he worth 20 odd million plus the sacrifice of one of our promising youngsters. No, I don't think so.
super_gooner
I would allow Bednter to leave if we got him. Van Perie, Villa, Adebayor & Walcott with Eduardo coming back in december would be a good attack. But the chances of Arsenal spending over 20 Million are as likely as SHANNON Matthews mother being innocent.
paul_ownz
super-gooner. Adebayor wouldn't even be on the bench at Manchester, even not at Chelsea. I don't see Barcelone put Messi or Eto'o on the bench. real put Van Nistelrooy or Raul. Adebayor is good, but not a World class striker at all. He needs 550 chances to score. Van Pesrie can play winger, or behind the stricker, so it is not a similar case.
FloG
What about your high and mighty morals? Villa will be at least 20 m. Wenger is just gonna have to admit his experiment failed. Everyone said it. "You can't win nothing with kids". Time to grow up.
Bumps
SG , love your faith in our lads but RVP is injury prone, we dont know what Dudu will be when he recovers. I feel we missed Anelka in the Summer sales and that I feel could have been the differance this year. I not sure if I would go for Villa , Huntelaar or Benzima, but we need another striker. Vela and Walcott will play wide, RVP can play behind the striker which leaves Nic and Ade. I think NIc will be a better player than Ade, so I wouldnt sell him however AW will probably buy some fellow playing in some obscure league that one one has heard of for 2 mill and be done.
themadafrican
"Adebayor/van Persie will be on the bench" - mate RVP will be in the treatment room! Seriously, the guy has been injured for 3 years! We cannot rely on him being there. Get Villa in, I say. He's proven quality and we have the money to do it. And Bumps, it isn't about morals. Grow up yourself, nob end.
Moorish
I honestly think he'll go to Spurs. Great team, bright future and best fans........ I crack myself up! ;))
Fan of Blues
Buying one player like Villa will prove Wenger's 'experiment' failed ? Muppet ! As for Villa, this is a come and get me plea, only it will fall on deaf ears. If we get Villa, I'd be excited, but I'm not getting my hopes up. I dont think we genuinely need someone like him in the squad.
prits
I'd really love to see all the strikers we have at Arsenal make it. But Adebayor might never improve his finishing, van Persie might never get back off the treatment table, Eduardo might never be the same player again, Bendtner might never stop blocking his team mates shots and Wenger might never pick Walcott up front. We need to act, and with a player of Villa's quality openly asking for a move to Arsenal .... we need to act now.
Rocky7
For me the best stricker you actually have is Eduardo, far better than Van Persie and Adebayor, at least far better finisher. Villa is a true scorer, and don't him go to Liverpool, cos Villa- Torres would be terrific, and the best parternship in the Premier League IMO. If i was you i would rather have Villa with me than against me....
FloG
*don't let him go..... sorry
FloG
You are welcome to him. Don't think he is physically strong enough or quick enough to be a top quality striker in the Premier League. Torres is faster and stronger than Villa. I might be wrong but for the price he'll carry, I don't think it's worth the gamble. Maybe he'll fit in to your style of play with passes making space for people but I don't think he'd ever fit Chelsea's.
The_Legend_Of_Zola
I would welcome that move. Villa would be a class signing. As for the other strikers, well at 19 Bendtner still has a lot to learn and should go out on loan for another season to a lower table PL club - spuds lol? Walcott should master wing play before switching to which is what made TH14 the player he was, and he has time on his side to do that. Same for Vela. If AW is serious about only one big signing, then i would rather a world class CB.
Cesky
I meant switching to striker!
Cesky
Great player but I prefer David Silva at Valencia. Can't see AW splashing the cash, tho.
jaelle
Silva is not a scorer, he is a second stricker at least. i think you really need a true scorer (not Adebayor), somebody that can score with half chance and not 550 chances...... Villa might do the job.
FloG
A fit Eduardo could be the answer, but its anyones guess when he will be back. RVP when fit is world class, but like i say, when fit. Ade is never gonna be that world class striker we crave - although to be fair 25 goals is not a bad return. Bendtner is still raw but i'm sure will get better. Because of the injuries to RVP and Eduardo i think Wenger should splash the cash or we might just have another so near but so far seasons again next year.
MrArsenal
We're signing Richard Dunne.
AFC85Lew
I'm assuming you're joking AFC85!
adamski243
You heard it here first.
AFC85Lew
Richard Dunne?? I thought he was in discussions with City over a new deal.
MrArsenal
we should get villa let bentender go on loan again and have van p adebayor and villa as our strikers. have theo hleb ,flamini (if they dont go) and fabragas our back 4 should stay the same but (strip gallas of captaincy and give it to either toure or almunia also sign 1 more world class centre back. But i heard that we might be signing Gomez frm psv.
gunner24
He has probably seen Torres ripping up the premiership and fancies some of that! Personally I would rather sign Etoo, He would fit our style of play, there is no ACN next year and its looks like he would be available for around 13-15 million. The Richard Dunne shout is not a bad one in terms of him playing in the Premiership, not sure about champions league level though.
iceman10
Well, we didn't get Torres when we had the chance. Not too much to hope for a major singing in the summer is it? Something to give a little more hope? No?
gunnerdownunder
peado wont spend money
glendalough yid
Not being funny gunner 24, but you've been playing too much Championship Manager. Glendalough? Where the hell is that? Sounds like someone in touch with the premiership game there.
AFC85Lew
Good point Glenda the yid and well put accross!!!
MrArsenal
Do you pronounce your screen name Glenda-loves-yids? Sounds like some fat bird who would shag someone with a bag of chips in 1 hand and as fag in the other. Take your sick sense of humour elsewhere.
iceman10
Wish David Villa would change his fecking surname, getting fed up seeing articles of him in the Villa news services like google and newsnow! lol
The Fear
I know what you mean Fear. I turned on some SKY programme called the Villa thinking it might be football related to your team and saw 4 ugly men trying to hook up with 4 ugly women on some foreign resort!?
iceman10
i won't be suprised if Henry returns. did anyone read Arsene's comments on the official website a few days ago. he said, bringing Thierry back is something i haven't considered at the moment. usually Arsene is very straight foward when it comes to ex players, he always says we won't go for him, he is history. plus our club has a policy of usually never going back to a player who has left us. But Thierry is an exception, he is the best player we've ever had after Bergkamp, and maybe Arsene still believes he has a lot to offer and he is getting wasted in Spain, so you never know what may happen. and yeah i know the return of the King is not always rosy, but Thierry is special, and his experience and quality is maybe just what we lacked a little bit this season. i will welcome him back with open arms..
luckys_10
and just as i say that, there is another article on Thierry on the official site..
luckys_10
No Trophies, one of the best strikers in the world wants to sign for us ... we have the money ... stop being stubborn wenger ... go get the lad ....
Achilles
IT WOULD BE NICE TO SEE VILLA AT ARSENAL BUT I DONT THINK WENGER WILL SPLASH OUT ON HIM, I THINK THE DEFENCE NEEDS A BOOST, LESCOTT WOULD BE A GREAT SIGNING IN MY EYES, WHAT DO YOU THINK?
merz
AFC68Lewie boy lol go 2 dizz den http://www.goal.com/en-india/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=659720 championship football yh alright
gunner24
We could swap Eboue for him!!!!!!!
MrArsenal
i would gladly give eboue to them to "soften" the deal haha
ahops101
Not sure about the hairdo.
darinb007
To those saying Villa and Torres upfront is a dangerous combination...You're certainly right. It was a dangerous combination for Spain. They ended up having their last few qualifiers as must-win games since the Villa-Torres combo had 2 goals between them in 6 games.
entropy13
Villa is absolutely class and is the type of lethal finisher i would like to see at Arsenal. I hope Arsene opens his wallet and splurges on him coz with him up front Arsenal would go along way to winning the Premiership. I think Arsene needs to realise that although the young players we have are class and bringing a few more in would do no harm, we need some hardened players ready for first team football immediately.
Aussie Gooner
Everything sounded very sexy until I saw that the (only) source was the Sun. Sigh. I think the only possibility of Arsene getting him is if we sell a striker - and at a great price. And since Arsene said he's looking at only one experienced player, I think it'd be defence that he'll strengthen. But since we'll be selling (Gilberto, Jens and possibly Flam), I'd expect a combination of low-cost replacements from outside (I'm hoping there's some Sagna-like bargains out there, not Villa) and a couple of promotions from the kids' rank (Vela, Barazite, possibly try Gibbs/Traore in LW - though I almost fainted when he said he could "do an Eboue" on the left side on arsenal.com).
Lou the Gunneress
"Will it take a flair player like Kaka or Messi? I will not reject that one of those names will be here. "Will they come? I think so, yes. This is a big club." HAHaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahaha
paul_ownz
Yeah, bit of a misnomer to tell the country you are "a big club" on the same night you are paying people to watch your team. Mind you, if I were one of the Chelsea 'employees' for the evening, I'd ask the club to up the ante. Shevchonko's been paid 100k a week to watch Chelsea for two years now.
Little Dutch
ok, can anyone see the likes of Kaka or Messi CHOOSING to work under Avram Grant????? Think about that, now. Compared to that bit of insanity, it would be much more likely to see Kaka or Messi CHOOSE to work under Mourinhio (a manager neither player cares for in terms of his style of football) at, say, Man City.
jaelle
Please sign someone with big name. Please...
fcdematthew
we don't need big names, fcdematthew. we just need signings the quality of sagna and eduardo.
jaelle
Cheng Ieong Paulo Cheang --- that's a pretty big name. I'm sure you've noticed the stunning performances he's put in for the Ma********ional football team... In all seriousness, did anyone here actually see how poor he was in the Copa del Rey final last night?
The_Legend_Of_Zola
lol why is Macau national football team *****'ed?
The_Legend_Of_Zola
He didn't care about the Copa del Rey cos he's set to move? :P Too bad I missed it, I had meant to watch it but forgot.
Lou the Gunneress
The boss has responded to Villa's charming seduction, basically "We're, ahem flattered. Thank you very much." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=560537&in_page_id=1779&ct=5
