Fabregas Wins Award For Being Ace

Cesc Fabregas has been recognised as the best young player in the Premier League this season by his fellow professionals.

The Spanish midfield maestro was named PFA Young Player Of The Year after some scintillating displays that saw Arsenal lead the league for the majority of the season.

Fabregas was delighted with the honour.

'I am very proud because it is always satisfying for yourself, but all the team worked really hard this season and it's been disappointing at the end,' he Fabregas told Sky Sports.

'But at least someone can get something.

'But this is for all the team, and all the fans, because all together we have had good season even though we haven't won anything at the end.

'This is thanks to them as well.'

Well deserved, this boy just gets better and better. I hope we all as supporters don't indulge that horrible British trait of knocking him every time he's less than perfect. We have the most complete central midfielder in world football and he's not yet 21. Well done Cesc.

nobody deserved this award more than cesc this year! Gratz Cesc! :)

I rather laughably heard some Man Utd fans claiming Anderson had been better than Cesc this year. Fab is an awesome player, he's also a winner, everything we need.

Very well done Cesc! Team trophies will follow! I actually felt quite confident Cesc would get it (plus those pros who couldn't stand Ronaldo holding both awards last year would have voted for Cesc this year lol). Rocky, some ManU fans also said Ronaldo should get both awards again too. Some of them got bitter enough to ask "Isn't Torres 24 already? Why's he still considered a "young" player?!" lol

Congratulations to Cesc a well deserved award. Congratulations to the others who, together with Cesc made us the most represented side in the PFA team of the year; Sagna, Clichy and Adebayor. Presumably they now become the sort of 'big name' players we should have signed?

Well said Amos - Ade, Clichy and Sagna have made their names. Again shows that Arsene seldom buys stars, he makes them.

Thoroughly deserved, not only for his quality and talent, but because of his winner's attitude. He's going to get even better as he gets physically stronger. Also see that Wenger has praised Clichy, especially for his performance against Man Utd. Have to say, he was absolutely awesome in that game, where he got that much energy and desire from, I do not know. Whatever happens, we have to say that all our players gave 100% this season and we could not ask for more.

Surely even you lot should admit Torres done far more this year, and is more likely to WIN SOMETHING.

AS, nobody here doubts the quality that is Torres.. and I'll be happier if u could name someone from the team u support who made it to the epl best 11.. NONE?.. then save the banter for next year mate.

And surely you can admit that Cesc, despite not winning anything, has been better than any play to wear the Spurs shirt?!

Congrats to Cesc, who on an individual level is now our most important player. There isn't a more challenging position on the pitch in which to prove yourself than central midfield, so for Fab to manage it at his age is really quite amazing. Like Amos said - and it's food for thought for the let's-get-a-billionaire-owner brigade - Cesc and others are the 'big names'.

Our whole team has outscored the Spuds in the PL so far and they have played one game more. They have to take their comfort where they can I suppose.

good point rocky they are pretty crap, but still good enough to beat you lot and the chavs when it mattered. How did you lot fair in the big games then.

rocky, there's only so much u can say to an ignorant.. the meaning of delusion "is the strong and fixed, unshakeable holding to an ideation despite being proven untrue".. and that generalization certainly fits a certain someone who seems to be following us more than his/her own team.

When it mattered? In the cups you mean? That puts you in the same category as Barnsley and Coventry then. Koeman won the Spanish Cup with Valencia but it didn't stop him from getting sacked because of his poor league position. That's when it matters and when it did matter we took 6 points off you.

Amos has already hit the nail on the head....when it matters is in the league, a competition you haven't beaten us in since the conception of least it feels that way!

I know that no-body at le'arse gave a to55 about that game, thats why you were headbutting each other if frustration. wengers face said it all. Still you can always blame the ref. by the way it's not big 4, it's big 3 also rans.
28/04/2008 14:30:00

No - the big 4 are those qualifying for the CL. The also rans go into the secondary competitions. Thats why it was the stated objective of the Spuds board preseason - the basis on which they were to judge success or failure. The real failures end up in the bottom half of the table and wait until the 35th game of a 38 game season to gain the points to secure PL survival.

AggressiveSpurs, so you won the CC, now what? You beat us in one of the four games we played against each other. The other a draw and the other 2 we won. It's good to get one of over the old enemy but surely, gloating about one result throughout a whole season is pathetic. You won the CC but any Spud with any sense would trade that for our league position in a heartbeat. Your aim was to break into the "big four" and win the FA Cup or UEFA, the CC would have been a nice bonus. Your team is 11th with 30 points less than we have. And it's still the big four, if it was Big 3, that would be the three best teams in the league and we'd still be part of that.

Supposing we did care about the CC and it pains our hearts that we didn't win it, qualifying for the Champions League is still a much more important feat. You guys were saying the CC was your last chance of getting into Europe and your team was giving everything, for the UEFA Cup. If we'd won it and not qualified for the CL, that would have been a serious step backwards.

AS, we failed in our ambitions. We didn't we win the League or the CL but our failure is still a bigger achievement than the Carling Cup. A cup who's biggest reward is a place in a competition we are already above is not what I'd call important. Both our teams failed to reach their goals but we have improved on last year. We got to the Quarter Finals of the CL, last season it was the last 16, we are 3rd, could still be second with a much better points tally than last season. We are only 7 points behind the leaders with a game in hand. We have failed but we have improved drastically. Tell me AS, how much have you guys improved? You were 5th last year, Maths isn't my strongest point but isn't 11th worse?

Maybe in your world AS, beating Arsenal 5-1 in the Carling Cup is a better reward than moving forward as a team. As a Gooner I find it flattering that we are your benchmark and that beating us once makes your season a success. Hats off to you.

Back on topic.... well done Cesc. Brilliant season, and although you can't deny Ronaldo's brilliance, it would be unfair for him to win both awards, especially when he's surely too old to be nominated for the Young Player Award. Good to see the PFA aren't obvious United fans, we were dreading the lieks of Wes Brown and Rooney in there. Sagna, Cesc, Clichy, Ade have been the main men in a great team effort this season.
