'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Hats Off To Frank Lampard

I make no secret of my dislike of Frank Lampard, indeed we often take the mikey on Vital Arsenal about his pie eating antics, but tonight, I have to salute him.

It's always sad when any member of your family dies, but I can only imagine (though I really wouldn't want to) the pain that the death of your mother brings.

For Frank Lampard, not only take to the pitch, but have the balls to step up and knock home a penalty, is testament to the guy's mental strength.

It must have been in his mind, as he stood infront of a 38,000 strong crowd that he had to score the penalty in memory of his mum, and that will have brought more pressure than any amount of praying football fans.

So tonight I put all rivalries aside and take my hat off to Frank Lampard, and may your mum rest in peace.

You can forgive Frank for thinking that the world is caving in on him right now, so stepping up for that crucial penalty was huge. He has my complete admiration for that. Goes way beyond football rivalries.

That was pure class from Frank. I really expected Ballack to take the penalty but to see Frank step up and take it was so courageous. Sent a shiver down my spine. And did anyone else see Avram Kissing the ground at the end? Finally showing some emotion. All round im happy for Chelsea.

Anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one will have an idea just how much courage it took for him to play, let alone take - and score - a penalty, probably the first and last time I'll say it, but massive respect Mr. Lampard...
