Flamini's Gone, Time To Move On

AC Milan have confirmed the signing of Arsenal midfielder Matty Flamini.

Not wanting to dwell on the situation for too long, I'll simply give you the statement from AC Milan.

'Milan would like to confirm that we have signed a contract that will tie the French player Mathieu Flamini to the Rossoneri from 1st July 2008 till 30th June 2012.'

Well that's that then. Time to move on.

Lol Kev. To be honest, it's done now, no point in getting upset. He was awesome this year and inline for the player of the year award, but it was one season, aint getting no tears from me. Money over football, it's a damn shame!

We need a Sagna in midifeld. A top quality player, rather cheap.

I'm paranoid, and I think Arsenal FC has installed a keylogger on my pc. If Arsene buys Makoun(I heard he was interested in him), he'll be the second FM midfielder player that I bought who ends up in arsenal. The first one was Rosicky. If you lot buy Goran Pandev... I'll ask for compensation.

Is he Fla-Money now then?

What surprises me is that he's had one good year, just one good year and he's attracted the attention of top european clubs.. ok, but to buy a player on the basis of one season is kind of risky in my opinion.. as for Flamini, I simply can't understand the fact that he moved at a time when he had settled into the midfield with Cesc and actually started playing well.. he's got to do it all again in Milan. Money over football? Well, history tells us that whoever leaves Arsenal at their peak never returns to such heights.. lets just wait and see.

No player is bigger than the club. Thats an important thing. He's been fantastic for us this season, but we have moved on after selling Henry, Viera etc and done ok! I just know he will regret leaving. Trouble is he was settled over here and was getting regular first team football in the best league in the world as well as the champions league. Hell we even beat his new club 2-0 couple of months ago!! Now he's got to get settled, learn a new language get in sync with Milan's style of play and build new friendships with his team mates. I don't think he has learned anything from the past (Overmars and Petit et al) Ah well, good luck to him

Why didn't Wenger try to extend Flamini's contract last summer? He wouldn't have cost you a lot in terms of salary then and you wouldn't have run the risk of losing him without compensation like you did now.

Yippee!!! Glad to get this foolishness over and done with, now we can get on to football, improving the squad. Trust me, its his loss as far as football, but i guess the money was too much for him and his greedy agent to look past. Oh well, he will see us lift the CL and EPL titles with tears in his eyes. I wish Wenger would be a little more forceful when players do this! I believe if they play the waiting game he should just get rid of them, especially when its about MONEY!!! MOVE!! Hey Flamini was great for ONE year and i appreciate his play but this is just not right!!!

thank you for your service to the club flamini, you were fantastic this semester. i dont understand why he would want to go to a team that might not even be playing champions league footy next year? and i dont think that he will get enough games in the team to make a difference in italy. 4 years from now we will see him moving onto spain!

JohnDoe Arsene did not extended his contract last summer because we all thought he was a goner. He had never played like he did this season, but maybe he never got the chance. Had Gilberto not been late back to pre-season because of Brazil, Flamini would have been a Birmingham this season.

Personally as much as Flam/Fab worked pretty well this season, I don't think it would've been the long term answer. Too many teams in the Premiership play percentage football up to the centre of midfield, including two of the other top four teams, and I think that sometimes that lack of height affects us. Also, the extra height comes in handy at defending and attacking set pieces. I just think that we need a harrassing midfielder, who can move the ball along nicely, but somebody with more height and physical presence. Don't ask me who though. If it was a player from within, then Diaby would fit the physical mold but he'd seriously have to work his socks off in all aspects of his game, espescially workrate and tackling, but Flam proved that the huge leap can be made, so why not with Diaby? It really is a pity that we had to lose Flams though as this is the kind of player that we need to have as back up/first team so we could rotate our squad without losing any quality. Ah well!

I wish him all the best. I can't blame him, few ofus were rushing to keep him from the door last summer. I won't call him a money grabber, we are supporters but the players aren't and if a great club likeMilan is doubling his salary, you can't blame him for taking it. Milan is hardly a small club. If any of us were offered double our current salaries to work for a rival company would we turn it down? He saw out his contract and upheld an excellent attitude the whole time.

gunnerkid107, Wenger still should've either extended his contract or sold him then, like I said, his salary demands wouldn't have been that high last summer. Now you've lost him for nothing, not a good piece of business by Wenger on this occasion.

JD, Arsene did not extend his contract because he was ready to let him go, but needed to keep him for the beginning of the season for depth issues since Bert was gone and injured. If Flamini had not played the way he did while he was filling in for Gilberto then Arsene would not of minded if he would of left in January for free.

The point is his great performances were so unexpected that it caught Arsene, and all of us too, off guard

gunnerkid107, Wenger bought Diarra for the depth issues you mentioned, so he still could've either extended Flamini's contract or sold him. Also, why did Wenger sell Diarra before making sure that Flamini has signed an extended contract? That seem strange to me as Diarra showed that he's a good player with Portsmouth.

JD, I see your point now. This situation with letting Flamini get away and selling Diarra has been managed bad. Diarra left because he couldnt get past Flamini. Now Flams has left for Milan, and we have no one to fill that void. But I am not too worried because I think there are people out there that could do what Flamini did and maybe do it better. And Arsene will find that person whoever it is.

I think you'll find that Flamini was offered an extension before last summer but declined it. Wenger agreed he could go but without any decent offers he decided to see out his contract as he was entitled to do. We got him for free and he went for free. Chances are he will eventually leave Milan on a free as well. Shame to see him go just as it was a shame to see Edu go on a free a while back but the world will keep turning.

Hey LD, i too wish him the best and dont fault him for leaving, its his choice! i just hate the fact that we have to be left in suspense for all this time! i dont care about him chasing money but make your mind up and dont have everyone hanging on till the last day! as if he didnt know that he would leave b4 today. As i said b4 Wenger needs to toughen where this is concerned to me, its disrespectful to his team mates and fans alike! at least to me! God Bless!!!

***** the****, scumbags the lot of these 'elite' footballers. Outside of Totti and Maldini loyalty isnt even in the vocabulary of these money grabbing, fairies. It is bull***** like this that his seriously soured me on premier league football in the last 3 months and you know with Hleb and Flamini going it want be long before their best buddy Cesc follows. English football was well and truly dead before the 39th game idea, give me Stoke City any day of the week.
