Gael Clichy To Extend Arsenal Stay

Gael Clichy looks set to remain at Arsenal for at least 4 more years after the Frenchman revealed a new contract is almost ready to be signed.

Gael Clichy has been in a rich vein of form over the last two seasons, so much so that his fellow professional voted him the best left back in the league this season.

Clichy made his contract claims and says he wants to be a gooner for a long time to come.

'We're at the end of our discussions,' Clichy told France Football. 'Everything's going well because my intention is clear: I want to stay at Arsenal. I would love to have a career here like Patrick Vieira or Thierry Henry.

"I would love to stay many years at Arsenal and leave my mark on the club. I've been in London for five years. If everything goes well I will stay here for at least eight years."

Chuffed to bits, my player of the season. Quality player who never gives in, his marauding attacking down the left is fantastic, just needs to add afew goals for the icing on the cake.

Clichy can become the legend Cole should have been. A truely awesome player!

I love this guy's attitude, and every word he utters in the press. A truly likeable bloke. There were some more comments in the same interview, where he spoke about how he wouldnt be tempted to move elsewhere. We need more of his kind around. He is on his way to legend status, Rocky.

Pay rises for Clichy, Sagna, Cesc and Ade - all very well deserved: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/05/16/sfnars116.xml

those players that choose to stay deserve wage increases. players that need increases to persuade them to stay IMO dont really have the clubs future in their hearts so let them go if they chose to. trust in Arsene

I'd love to give a smothering hug and kiss to Clichy right now!! :-) After which he'd probably call the police but it'd be worth it! I hope his first goal is at the Emirates and very single person in that stadium, every blade of grass, should stand up and scream their lungs out!!
