Robin Rocks France
There was an air of gooner symmetry between Robin van Persie`s appearance as a second half substitute for Holland against France and Fabregas` appearance as a second half substitute for Spain against Russia. Both notched up a goal and an assist each in a game that ended 4-1 to their sides.
In a pulsating game that France were beginning to dominate despite being a goal down they should really have been on equal terms when Arsenal legend Henry missed a chance that 3 seasons ago he would have buried. Robin van Persie came on with a little over 30 minutes left and within 4 minutes he had met a great ball into the box from Robben with a left foot volley that Coupet got a hand to but couldn`t prevent from crossing the line. Effectively that sealed the game for Holland though French hopes flickered briefly as Henry scored adroitly, with the deftest of touches, only for Robben to restore the lead within a minute.
Into added time and van Persie picked up a ball from a horse-faced Dutch striker found Schneider on the edge of the area and then ran into the box creating the space for Sneijder to score with a great shot.
An interesting game for gooners as both sides featured Arsenal players both present and former with maybe just the right outcome. Robin should get the games he needs and unless France beat Italy Gallas will almost certainly get the holiday he needs.

Great match, like you - we had players on both sides. Holland deserved it though, i gotta admit i dint know Sneijder was that good - last two games hes been awesome...pity he plays for real though.

The Dutch were really brilliant! Earned the win and thoroughly they deserve it! When someone like Boulahrouz is looking decent, you know the whole team plays well. Again, I didn't know what Domenech's trying to do. The best team definitely won.

Thuram is past it and I have known that for a while. Makelele was in top vicious form. Why play 2 defensive midfielders in Toulalan and Make, I'm puzzled... Glad to see the old Henry in the 2nd half but shame he can't sustain it for 90 minutes. Gallas is way too emotional for a centre-back. I thought he was on the verge of tears after the 2nd goal.

Wouldn't mind seeing Wesley Sneijder in an Arsenal shirt, unlikely though. Also when fit Robben is a handful for anyone. Viva RVP though!!!!

Gael I was thinking exactly the same thing about the line-up. Domenech's decision to put 2 DMs against Romania must have come back to haunt him. If he wanted to be conservative against the Dutch, fair enough. But he must be regretting doing the same thing against Romania. I know Romania aren't minnows. But in this group, who else could you attack more other than Romania? If he insists on this kind of strange formation, plus playing the older but not wiser players (actually Henry looked past it in the 1st half too, glad he got back into the game in the 2nd), France vs Italy wouldn't be a so-called WC final rematch, but a dull affair of catenaccio I'm afraid.

RVP nearly blundered his goal though. I'm sure he meant it though. He obviously meant to hit the ball in the exact part of the goalkeepers hand, where it will just about go over the line. PURE CLASS, I MUST SAY! LOL!!!
