'If It's Football, It's Vital'

First up is West Brom!

There was a time when you didn't know who Arsenal were playing until you got to the gate to pay your money to get through the turnstiles. Now the full fixture list is poured over in eager anticipation by those determined to second guess the pattern of the whole season ahead.

The event is heralded by blogosphere promising to get as close as they can to being first out with the information with much the same enthusiasm and fanfare as a docklands winebar serving the first of the Beaujolais Nouvelle.

At least it promises land ahead. Adrift in a sea of ever confused and fanciful transfer stories - where newspapers in England post the rumours listed in Spanish newspapers which are in turn published as Italian newspaper inventions which are in turn published in Spanish newspapers which are amplified in English papers and so on and so on - at least the fixture list shows us that one day real football will begin again.

Anyway, first up is home to newly promoted West Brom on the 16th August followed by away to Fulham and home to Newcastle. Not too bad a start methinks.

We get to face the first of the big three when ManU come to the Emirates in November and three of the last six games include games against ManU, Liverpool and Chelsea. We should be so far ahead by then that we could probably freewheel those ones.

Real football - bring it on!

"three of the last six games include games against ManU, Liverpool and Chelsea" - remember the old days when they used to pretend the fixture list wasn't totally rigged to try and create a 'narrative' for the season, or to help TV company's sell their 'Super Sunday's? Ah, we were young and innocent then.

I am very happy with our schedule. We should be able to get off to a great start, and by not playing the rest of the big 4 a second time till the last six games could very well help us too.

This wont be an easy first game, West Brom will still have the winning mentality and the former Boro players around the club will ensure it is a toughee ;)

I like the fixtures and think we can use it to our advantage to player man u later rather than earlier... i am sure the lessons from last season are well learnt

Three of the last six games look very interesting if you are all fighting it out for the title.

And yet again you lot start of with an easy opener at home! (Whoever or whatever does these fixtures must be a biased Ar5ena1 fan!)

If we make it to the latter stages of the Champs League, it means we're going to have another tough run-in like we did this year.

If I might be mistaken but the Fulham away game will be postponed because of our invlovement in the CL qualifers. Its usually the second game of the season isnt it?

BrooksySpuds, if you started with WBA at home you'd STILL say it was rigged- not fair Spuds have to play a fellow relegation battler straight away!

Yep, sky have had their mits on this one! But I'm hapy about facing all the big guns last. You have to beat those teams anyway and you might as well do it when there's no time for them to recover as we draw 1-1 at home to every team in the bottom half (except Spurs).

Yes Brooksy, the fixtures are always rigged in our favour. Like when we played Liverpool 3 times, Chelsea, Bolton and Man united away in the space of 20 days in april. Also United4life its good to get your tough away fixtures out the way before christmas i would think.

Just what we needed. We were off to a great start last season, and part of that was because of the fixture list: Fulham (H), Blackburn (A), Pompey (H) weret he first three games. Hopefully we can start like we did last season; there's no reason why we can't. If I was a united fan, I'd worry. If they lose Ronaldo they'll be a big gap in quality and with all these stupid tournaments they're entering because they won the CL, they'll be overloaded with fixtures. My pr-season prediction is that Untied will be out of the title race before they face us at Old Trafford, and that we'll have another thrillign season ahead. Come on you Gunners!

Lucky thing with your fixtures (well, look at ours). As a United fan, I really think you have a big chance to win the league, as your players are far more experienced. I wish you all the best. Obviously I hope United win the league, but I just have this sneaky feeling that Arsneal could go all the way...

got a bad feeling tottenham will pip us for a champ league spot if berbatov stays because that modric and gio do santos are great players. Also us losing flamini and most likely hleb is hard on us, so i feel we wil be close with our rivals afraid to say

super_gooner - Preseason predictions or things you THINK will happen are pointless and will leave you biting your tongue when the season finally takes its stage. Arsenal fans are understandably confident about title victory thanks to last season but Flamini was a BIG part of that, don't forget. Arsenal's best chance was last year and they let it slip. Could be another long year for the gooners...

ForeverUnited- Flamini was not a big part of that, it was Wenger who MADE him a big part of last season. With Arsene in charge, i say "Step up, the next great Arsenal revelation!"

Wasn't Ronaldo "a big part of" ManU's success last year too? And where will he be I wonder?
