'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Vieira's 5 year feud

If reports in the Independent are true the enmity between former Gunner favourite Patrick Vieira and Ruud van Nistelroy resurfaced in the tunnel after the Dutch beat France 4-1 in Berne last week. It`s claimed that the Dutch striker had a long face as he waited for the former Arsenal captain and the pair traded insults. Video evidence apparently exists of what is described as a 'spicey` encounter.

The row has its roots in the now notorious match at Old Trafford in September 2003 in which Vieira was sent off and the equine-featured striker missed a penalty. Vieira said of the incident "I was sent off at Old Trafford after a second yellow card as a result of an incident with him. I got shafted. Just thinking about it makes my blood boil. He tried to stamp on me and then he made more of the challenge than he should have done. I am not blaming the referee. He got shafted too."

It is fair to say that van Nistelroy was not the most popular opponent amongst a number of Arsenal players having also been involved in incidents with Keown, Ashley Cole and Ljungberg.

Vieira described the horizontal forward as "a cheat and a coward", "deceitful" and "a nasty piece of work" in his autobiography published after he had left Arsenal and away from the jurisdiction of the English FA who had fined Wenger after expressing sentiments that, though more discreet, concurred with Paddy`s. Dobbin threatened to gallop to the High Courts to sue Vieira but the prospect of having his entire back catalogue of career indiscretions played out on video before the courts may have been too much to contemplate.

It appears that this is one rift that time has little prospect of healing

Does anyone find it amusing that Vieira used the word "shafted" not once but twice? It's kinda like when Ade calls Arsene "The Gaffer" ... it just tickles me .. lol

Didnt he also call RVN a 'son of a bitch'. That will be my favourite quote of Paddy's.

Paddy is only human. Its a perfectly natural reaction to want to throw abuse at Mr. Ed when you see him!! It's weird... I want the Dutch to do well for Robin's sake, but I want them to lose for Red Rum's sake. Hard to call.

I would love to see the Dutch win Euro 08 for obvious reasons. But the thought of that long headed horse faced pillock winning it puts me right off!!!

Hmm fair points there. But the way Ruud van Horseface has played after he went to Real has impressed me, he seems less selfish these days, especially with Holland. I'm actually quite surprised how united they are (more than before, more than Germany anyway). The Spaniards too, for a change. I'd love the Dutch or the Spanish to win it so much that I strangely don't mind seeing RvN or Aragones picking up the medals. Football is strange stuff indeed.

I hope Vieira put him down and gave him a reason to writhe in agony.

Wait a minute, there were also news reports about a dust-up in the tunnel between Vieira and Evra after the game v. Italy, with accompanying video. So TWO tunnel run-ins in the same week for Patrick? I'll always loathe RVN, hope Vieira finds him in a back alley one night...

Ah, I just discovered what happened. Apparently the video that's been going around is one where Evra held Vieira back from a confrontation with RVN. What a scumbag to wait for Vieira in the tunnel like that, deliberately wanting a confrontation.
