Nasri Says He's A Gooner

It appears as though Arsene finally has his man as Samir Nasri has revealed the deal is complete on his personal website.

Nasri has allegedly been a long term target for Arsene Wenger and now the French international has become a gooner.

The statement read, "We inform you that Samir won`t be an Olympique de Marseille player next season and that he has signed a four-year contract with London club Arsenal.'

When the deal is officially announced by Arsenal football club, Nasri will become the second signing of the summer after youngster Aaron Ramsey completed his move from Cardiff.

Finally, I will be able to change that bloody stupid poll :)

I'm just wondering if Arsene is doing his usual trick of announcing a signing with a couple of bonus ones thrown in at the same time!

That sounds like good news. Nothing official on the Arsenal site yet but then they do have Adebayor week running at the moment!

Hleb's "agent/rep/whoever" said he's off "in a few days" like a month ago too. lol But Nasri was with France 2 weeks ago. He's done with the medical last Friday. OK I give them today to fly the boss back (well doesn't need to, Eduardo was announced without taking pictures with Arsene), sweep the floor of the press room and print the No. 8 shirt. Tomorrow, it's true this time, tomorrow! lol

I usually don't believe anything till I see them holding the Arsenal shirt (Though in Ibrahimovic's case even then it wasn't true) ... but I'm 99% certain this is done and dusted. Can't wait to see him play!!

He may well now be an Arsenal player but if he was a gooner he'd have signed pre the Euros - not hold out to see whether he would have an excellent tournament first so he and his grubby agent could bump his price up and pimp him round further to the European elite. As it was, he had 12 minutes odd in the opening game then 15 minutes in the final group game in which he was embarassingly substituted thru no fault of his own, now he comes to us with his tail somewhat between his legs. Welcome anyhow Sammy, hopefully you won't stall as much in front of goal!

Nikolaijns, from what Ive heard the reason he didnt sign before the Euros is because the Arsenal-hating French coach Dommench would let him leave the camp.

Yeah, the deal was done before the Euros and terms had already been agreed. Never any doubts about this one.

Come on Niko we don't know what happened behind the scenes, it might well have not been the boy's fault. I wouldn't say he's coming with his tail between his legs either - that is Domenech's image right now lol. Yeah Prof it'd be interesting to see where the boss uses him. I'd expect him and Theo to combine and last a season replacing Hleb on the wing, and if possible Nasri to back up Cesc when Cesc is suspended/injured/tired.

So if he'dve had a flyer of a tournament doin' an Arshavin and being the driving force behind a rampant France knocking goals in from all over the place, do you really think he would've signed on the same terms for the same wage? Or would we have seen bidding frenzies and a drawn out, protracted saga culminating in a move to one of the Spanish big two or even worse the chavs? Call me a cynic but I believe the latter. Sorry!. It's easy to demonise bumbling idiots like Domenech (nice to know every nation has it's Maclaren) but to lay the blame for contract stalling at his door is silly, there is plenty of downtime to meet with the club reps, finalise any small points and sign on the line. Besides Ray would've been too pre-occupied with his cards and tea leaf reading to notice :)

Jaelle my understanding is that 'terms' were still to be agreed upon upon the start of the Euros, and that the aquisition of Nasri was never ever a cert with Wenger himself voicing concerns that the deal could be hijacked by Atletico who could offer more starts. As far as him actually signing a while back that is as much speculation as my view that his agent told him 'why rush? lets wait and see what the Euros brings' Noone knows the real ins and outs apart from those directly involved, all I'm offering is my view on things. As Nasri had only recently signed to Marseille until 2012 only to turn round and quit there, I have no problem believing his agent would've dumped on us had a better offer arisen. The main thing is we have signed a class player (albeit another injury plagued Rosicky type, Jeez the geezer even had meningitis last year!) Whoever passes these lads thru the medicals is prolly the same shady North London gent that puts my motor thru it's MOT each year.

Finally it comes to an end. Who else has this hash? So he's on wide left, and how much you want to make a bet Diaby is taking Flamini's role. Nasri, gives us greater options, thank goodness he didn't have any impact at the Euros, would of cost us another 10 million pounds we wouldn't have spent

Diaby playing in front of the back four? Does he have the strength to get stuck in? Might be an option. Could be worth giving him a go. No one knew Fla-money would have done so well at the start of last season.

niko, I concede the existence of the reports you cite, I'm mainly working from the French press, esp. La Provence, Nasri's hometown paper, which said the same thing all along from the very beginning and never veered from their story: that the deal was done, that the only thing keeping him was Domenech not wanting to release him for a medical before the Euros.

Ok Jaelle, doubtless Domenech did'nt smooth matters along but this could've been tied up a lot quicker (medicals et al) before the Euros but it was'nt, it's understandable Nasri and his representatives would want to wrangle the best deal possible for themselves and it is my opinion that part of this involved delaying signing (most likely on his agents advice - don't worry son Arsenal'll still be there after the Euros) on the offchance his stock rose dramatically, it's not rocket science and zenchris sums it up perfectly above.

MrArsenal, yeah this is crazy. Did someone jump the the gun? The Nasri pictures on the arsenal.com server have been taken down. I agree with Gael, have been saying that since we started worrying about Flamini's departure. Diaby just LOOKS like Vieira, he isn't Vieira. His natural game is to go forward and attack. And his tackling and work rate have to be improved significantly to play the holding role. I see more DM qualities in Song, even Djourou, than Diaby. Even Diaby sees himself as an attack-oriented midfielder.

The really interesting part of that article is the revelation that Nasris' agent is one Jean-Pierre Bernes. Long time arch nemesis of Wenger, Bernes was convicted of corruption as managing director of Marseille paying off various players that led to Wengers Monaco team being prevented from rightfully taking the French league title. The plot thickens, the pair abhor each other and it more than explains this fiasco.

What a joke. Nasri might be able to play football but alas, lets hope he has a little more upstairs. I am sure the Arsenal Management told him to wait until they announced it, if what Young Guns says is true and that his dad posted it on his web site, then boy, what a joke. I used to love the off season as it gave me a chance to reflect on the previous season and gives me a high on what expectations I have for the next season. Now I just look on in dread. The London club, financed by rubles, seem like they will buy anyone whom they want and destroy the concept of team building, Real-lies Madrid seem to break all the rules and get away with it, Man Utd still have a stronger squad than us. If Liverpool buy Villa and Barry, they will be tough next year and us, if we bought 2 or 3 players within the first 3 weeks off the off season then Monsieur Wenger is playing his cards tight. We have Eboue telling us he is a midfield player and I dont dislike him like the majority of Gooners do. The guy can play, very good cover for sagna, just not a starting player. He is certainly is not the worst player in an Arsenal shirt. Jason Crowe. Eddie McGoldrick, Ian Selley, Chris Wreh, - to name a few that I think are worse.
themadafrican
With hindsight it makes sense to see how this plays out over the next 24 hours before levelling oblique accusations of incompetence. I wonder if this has echos of the Carrick affair a few seasons back? He was supposedly going to join us except that Vieira didn't depart as anticipated and they decided they didn't then have room. Is this somehow tied up with Hleb staying or going and/or if he goes who might be coming in as part of the deal? Or am I just trying to second and third guess everything now? Something doesn't smell right though.

A few comments/questions regarding the squad numbers: 1. Hleb is still on there 2. I wonder which number i am going to put on the new shirt as i can't trust anyone of them to stay 3. Doesn't Clichy deserve anumber between 2 and 6?

I've stopped that "Arghhh!" reaction when I see these new twists now. Even starting to enjoy it as if I'm watching a comedy. And I've learnt about these new stock exchange rules regarding football clubs, and a few more Spanish, French and Italian words by trying to read these foreign sites. So this saga and other transfer rumours have taught me a great deal! lol Gael-Force, 1. Hleb's still under contract isn't he? Actually Mad Jens is still in the squad list, just without a number, till he officially departs on 30th June (I believe). 2. I guess Kolo and Clichy are safer bets hehe. 3. Our numbers are all over the place ever since they gave Vieira and then Cesc No. 4, Gallas No. 10, so it kind of doesn't matter anymore.

Nasri's agent should just get lost. However good Nasri might be, I'd be very tempted to turn round and tell Jean-Pierre Whoever that that Arsenal Football Club's interest is ended. The absolute MICHAEL is being taken here. It's the Ronaldo show in reverse. Enough! Time to move on to Andrei Arshavin.

Julie - There is much speculation that the deal is infact done but OM want it to remain secret for the time being, probably until they have secured a replacement for Nasri in an attempt to avoid over inflated prices!! Or something like that ... lol

Its a big like that iraqi dude who told the world on live t.v that the Americans had been defeated when u.s tanks could be clearly seen behind him taking over his territory! Why would OM deny this transfer when the world knows about it? bizarre?

Isnt it anoying that none of the top 4 can seem to do a transfer nowadays easily. Even the transfer of Ramsey took weeks of will-he-wont-he. Sometimes I envy the smaller clubs such as Fulham and Spurs that can simply conclude a tranfer without anyone knowing about it, then announce it once it has been fully complete. I guess the closest we came to that was with Nani and Anderson but even then there was alot of kerfuffle afterwards regarding Work Permits etc. I just wish that the media would just lay off and write about stuff once its been done and dusted, its just complicates eveything.

I mean can any of you remember the last time you were "suprised" by a signing, because it was unexpected?

yeah u4l, eduardo da silva one year ago!!! Rosicky the year before that. Hleb, Adebayor, Eboue also just showed up suddenly, and we had to go figure out who they are. I guess that's the cool thing about Wenger usually buying relative unknowns.

Over on the France blogs the story is that this delay came up because of Marseille's desire to delay the official announcement as much as possible. They don't like losing Nasri and want to make it look like they're playing hardball and actually benefitting from the deal. I don't think this has anything to do with negotiating the price, that's already been agreed to. Yes, his agent is the lowlife Bernes--longtime enemy of AW, buddy of Bernard Tapie--but that's old news, AW already knew that, he's been dealing directly with the club. I think the fact that the player himself put up the announcement on his personal website (which is run by his father) indicates his impatience for the announcement and an attempt to force Marseille's hand.

My favourite surpise signing was Campbell. Arsene just walked over casually with him like it was some normal transfer.
