More On Samir Nazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzri

What is it with long drawn out transfer sagas this summer?

With all the movement you'd expect this summer to be one of the most exciting off-seasons in the history of Arsenal Football Club.

But in actual fact the deals so far have become long-winded monotonous affairs, non more-so than the signing of Samir Nasri.

The will he / won't he, chuckle brothers 'to me, to you' style of this transfer has bored and frustrated many Gooners, but a statement released on his personal website on Monday meant the deal was finally done.

But the gun had been jumped.

The article in question was removed from the site, a statement issued saying Nasri wasn't quite an Arsenal player ..... and we were back to playing the waiting game.

Now the Marseille president, Pape Diouf has informed us that he only intends to drag the transfer out for a little while longer.

'After much negotiations with him and his representatives, we have reached an agreement which will see Samir join Arsenal,' he revealed. 'Samir was very concretely approached by Arsenal, a club which was also sent to us.'

'So there are steps to be taken which are to establish a definitive agreement between the two clubs. It is not yet done even if verbally, agreements have been completed.'

Good, the sooner this is over the soon I can go back alphabetising my dvds.

It seems Nasri will make a perfect replacement for Hleb especially in terms of long drawn out sagas!

i think he'll be better for us than Hleb: He's just as tricky, fast and slippery, but has got better finishing and penetration. He should make us less frustrating. and he's younger!

i,ve just had a flick through the online tabloids and WOWEEEEEE..... It appears that Kroenke is joining the Arsenal board and must be thinking of bringing with him one hellova money pot for the supposed transfers we're involved with. There IS money, there ISNT money.... Wenger WILL spend, Wenger WONT spend. hahaha its a laugh a minute with the press. If ALL the rumours were true we'd be looking at something like a 40 strong squad of the best players in Europe come the start of the season...... I cant wait :-)

I really think this drawn out delay is due to Marseille's petty, bureaucratic sense of self-image and desire to control things their way, not so much Nasri's agent.

Seems that to keep their fans happy they want to get a replacement on board so the Nasri sale wont hurt so much. That replacement seems to be Hatem Ben Arfa. As soon as he is signed the Nasri deal will become official.......i hope!!!

Thanks for that link, Lou--and more importantly, that announcement is now on Marseille's official website: http://www.om.net/fr/home/0/Accueil - so the Ben Arfa transfer is finally official. I do expect an official announcement about Nasri now....if there's still a hold-up after this, then there is definitely something else going on.

Eric Gerets (who?) said on om.net (roughly translated) about Ben Arfa's arrival: "It is a very important transfer for the club. He has an important margin of progression like Samir Nasri. It must still progress but he is a player whom I rate highly." It's pretty obvious that they're trying to say they've secured a great replacement, just as good as Nasri. How soon, just how soon will arsenal.com make the announcement now?!?!

As I thought we the Nasri deal seemed to have been "delayed" by O'M because they wanted to get their own player brought in before someone tried to hike the price up on another player (Arfa) because it would be public that they needed a replacement.

Apparently The Ben Arfa deal has been put on hold until Lyon find a replacement....that being Aaron Lennon. The deal for Lennon is done but has not been anounced as Sp*rs need to tie up the loose ends on the deal for Kazim Richards who after starring in the euros according to general spud logic is now a better player than Christiano Ronaldo.
