Henry Legend Passed On To Walcott

Theo Walcott, who's finishing technique is often compared to Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry, has been handed the all-time top goal scorer's shirt number.

The number 14 shirt until only a few years ago was just a substitutes shirt, nothing more, but then along came a Frenchman who couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo and gave the number 14 meaning to all Arsenal fans.

When Theo first came to Arsenal the comparisons had already started, and those comparisons continued so much that Walcott had to start telling people that despite Henry being a hero of his, he was his own player and wanted to be known as such.

Some people may feel Walcott is shouldering himself with too much of a burden by taking on such an iconic shirt number, but personally I think he's going to make it his own.

I said he should have it ;)
ajwb
Arsenal.com still has him at 32 ??????
edinburghgooner
The boy proved that he could handle pressure over the past year. This will only encourage him to do better. Can't wait to see him as our No. 14!

this should make him step up to the plate. C'mon Theo, do it fella - I've got this season's gonn abe the one where he really gets heads turning. Signs were there last season in spells. Slowloy but surely he's becoming the player we all hope and wenger knows he can!

top work thanks for the link - I think Theo will become a forst team regular this season and finally show what he really can do AW would not have done this unless he thought he was ready

The expectations on Theo were just about becoming realistic recently, and I hope this jersey no. is not interpreted as something more than what it actually is - just a number. Leave the lad alone to develop at his own pace and he will do quite well.

That's a huge gesture from Arsene, don't you think? Last season Theo said he was frustrated with Arsene for keeping him on the bench, and he found the courage to go up to Arsene to talk to him about it. Arsene told him he had to work harder, which Theo did. Now Arsene hands him Henry's shirt. That says a lot about how much faith Arsene has found in Theo, and how much Theo has worked to gain that faith.

WHAT IS IN A NUMBER????
quietman
Let's also not forget that the new squad numbers were only announced on Monday, then today, Theo's got changed from 32 to 14. Why didn't they confirm it before announcing it? Very weird and un-Arsenal-like if you ask me. But I'm told I'm reading too much into the change. Okie, anyway, I have confidence in Theo, he'll make make his own name. Cesc wasn't scared to wear PV4's shirt, neither is Theo to claim No. 14 now I believe.

maybe it was a case of theo wanting it ... and going to the club and asking for it. I hope so .. shows he has the balls and confidence required to progress. Next season will tell alot
IrishGoon
Im happy for Theo getting this number. This is going to be his year where he shows everyone all the talent he has.
gunnerkid107
I suspect Theo wanted a number, which better reflects his position in the first team squad, what with Ramsey coming in and getting number 16 and Carlos Vela number 12.
Passenal
damn, that kills any hope that i had of Thierry coming back :(
luckys_10
Good news for Theo its his time to shine along side this chappie.... http://youngguns.wordpress.com/2008/06/27/clarification-of-the-samir-nasri-transfer/
MrArsenal

MrArsenal
can someone explain why I cannot get onto this site normally? Have you started banning IP addresses etc? If you have I think that is pretty sad - it just shows you cannot handle a little debate. I have never been abusive. This is a serious comment. don't get me wrong you can have your little intimate debates all you want and exclude us but you should make the point clear if it is the case.
The Tailor
hmmm Mr A u can dream, also i bet bently wished he had stayed or maybe he wouldnt not of devloped in to player he is now if he dint leave, cause im sure hell be signing for spurs sooon
123spurs
The Lennon thing was tongue in cheek, he wouldn't get in our team!! ;-p. As for Bentley he is a show pony, a poser who had many opportunities as an Arsenal player but his attitude stank. Hope you do buy him, especially for the 15m they want for him. How over priced is that!!!!!!
MrArsenal
And Mr arsenal,i wouldn`t be at all suprised that when Wenger sold him he didn`t include a selling on fee for him as well, just like he did with pennant and Muamba. So 15mill would give a healthy return in commision..possibly
arsenor
Tailor, the site has had some troubles recently, a lot of people haven't been able to get on, Gooners included. It's sorted now.
Little Dutch
ya ur right he has that ego jus like when he opted not to play in u-21's, lennon's not french. bit bentyly not a bad player an we wont be payin out staight 15mil for him
123spurs
Spud are good at buying English players, albeit cack ones ;-p
MrArsenal
half true, lennon is good robbo was good daws was good woodgate is good jenas was never good, bent pending
123spurs
gess that was harsh coment by me
123spurs
arse cant buy english cause they cant afford them, thats my only come back....lol
123spurs
Lennon, debatable never really lived up to his potential of a couple of years ago. Robinson is on his way out after too many blunders. Dawson im not convinced and neither are any of my spud mates. And Woodgate, good defender but will you get a full season out of him, a bit injury prone. Bent was serverely over priced, but hardly got a look in last season, apart from against us ooh i can still see that miss!!! ;-P
MrArsenal
still very young an has time to adapt, robbo has lost i an also daws hense why we stared poor an ended mid table when we fin 5th thses 2 players were brill for us, no with there indavidual erros has cost us ......jus like senderos he started of good but has been found out
