Nasri Joins Gunners

Arsenal have announced, via their official website, the signing of 21 year old French international Samir Nasri from Marseille.

The long anticipated transfer, confirmed this morning, is the second notable addition to the squad this summer following the signing of teenager Aaron Ramsey last month.

The web site reports manager Arsène Wenger saying: 'We are delighted to be signing Samir Nasri. He is young, quick and technically an outstanding player. He has shown great potential with his performances for Marseille and the French national team over the past two seasons and he will add great quality to our squad.'

With Nasri adding: 'I'm very happy to become an Arsenal player, it means such a lot to me. This is a very important step in my life as a football player because Arsenal is a massive club. I really hope everything will go well for me here. I will my best for Arsenal and its fans and I am honoured to be part of such a great football club.'

Nasri will join the rest of the squad on the 21st July which means we won't get an early chance to see him in action against Barnet but almost certainly he will feature, expectedly in a wide midfield position, in some of the later pre-season games.

We all knew it was done, but it is nice to see it "official".

Finally I can say "What a great signing!". I think this guy has the potential to be one of Wengers greatest signings. Can't wait to see him play.
Bradys Chips
Finalyyyyy!...Nasri 8? ^.^
ajwb
yay, bye bye hleb! hellooooooo nasri =)
gooner_till_i_die
I love how dignified the club are when doing transfers. Not that it helps in any way in this morally depraved age, but everything about Arsenal is upright, from the way we play to our relationships with other clubs and players.
afri-gooner
Damn it, too fast for me again Amos!!! You're like grease lightening on these things. I'll just put what I put in my article ..... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, that's better!!

Sorry Rocky - I wasn't sure whether you were out of bed yet! Anyway as Editor you can and should add to the article. An Editors Note would add a touch of journalistic sophistication methinks!
Amos.
GET IN!!! FINALLY, something to shut up all these *****y moany supposed Gooners & their blogs! You think we have problems you mugs... check out what's happened to Luton Town F.C. today! They start life in league 2 with -30 points! Poor buggers! ROLL ON BARNET!!!
clockendgooner
It's ok Amos .... your article content is much better than mine. The quotes from it I posted above were pretty much it .... lol. PS - Always assume that I am out of bed .... my son makes sure of that (except on Sundays ;)
Rocky7
Hold on...... this is official. I felt sure it was just going to be another 'development'. Thank god for that. Let's hope all the other 'saga's' sort themselves out quickly and we can get on with pre-season. Only 8 days till the Barnet game, I'm looking forward to that.
navydave
He wont play in the Barnet game. Arsneal.com says he will start preseason on the 21st august.
paul_ownz
finalment...
number14
Did Ade and Hleb report back for pre-season training? Ade probably still has leave because he played 2010 qualifiers for Togo, but Hleb doesn't have any excuses.
afri-gooner
oops...finalement...i meant to say
number14
Finally!!! Now Hleb can go as well.
stukazufuss
WOOHOO!!!! I'm still jumping up and down cos that's the way it should be! Am I the only one who pretends it's not old news and still celebrates?! Don't know why, I'm very happy about this signing and it's FINALLY OFFICIAL!! :D
Lou the Gunneress
Finally. Nothing like good news to perk up your day :).
prits
your not the only one ms gunneress this has lifted my mood considerably as much as i avoid the tabloids they still make me dread the silly season so its definitely worth celebrating for sure
anonymous
Hleb must go and i hope AW let Adebayor goes as well...i just feel he will go next year if not this season and we should just capitalise when someone is willing to pay insane $$$
Temasek
It's great that he's finally officially ours...but it does feel a little bit anticlimactic; it's more of a relief that he's signed that an excitement!

ANOTHER UNKNOWN PLAYER
123spurs
Now you'll have to wait for the oh so predictable spuddies saying how wonderful Modric is and how superior he is to Nasri etc blah yawn. Just give a few hours..........
LondonGooner
The Marseille fans are gutted to see Nasri leave. Marseille are still trying to save face by saying that he extended his contract earlier to "protect Marseille's interests" should he leave later through the release clause, which has been activated in this case: http://www.om.net/fr/Saison/101003/Actualites/35893/_font_color_red_Accord_OM_Arsenal_pour_Nasri_font
Lou the Gunneress
from what ive seen from him he cud be a handy player givin time
123spurs
london gunner u hacve been on to many spurs sites, so ur sayin narsri is a better player them modric
123spurs
Finally. I look forward to him tripling his wage demands next summer and angling for a move to Barcelona.
Little Dutch
true little dutcth i think players now are usein a bigger clubs to gain , to get known an notice for a move else where by havin a great season they thing there deserve a pay rise an problens start
123spurs
LD your already cynicism is reaching new heights lol Come on (or off newsnow), there are many kinds of humour other than the dry one. Smile a bit, look, the "new Zidane" tag + big front teeth, he MUST be a great player in the making!
Lou the Gunneress
Hey, how funny is N'Zogbia? He wants to come to Arsenal or, wait for it: Spurs! WTF?
afri-gooner
just a thought but maybe some of the contential players might fancy playing in one league for a few season an then fancy a move to try a playing in a diff country
123spurs
heard that aswell, who does he think he is like more like west spam
123spurs
had a feeling something was going to be announced today -- I thought (hoped) maybe the announcement would be about Nasri and another signing that the media hadn't gotten wind of but that's just me...anyway, good to see SOME official good news on the site to help shut up all the doom and gloom from the media.
jaelle
123 Spurs - I try and stay away from all things spuddy, unfortunatly my place of work (office) and local ale house are crammed with spuddies. Come to think of it, maybe I should chose another venue for my weekly binge???
LondonGooner
123spurs, i agree modric is a quality signing.. but modric plays in the same role as fabregas and i don think we need any reinforcement in that department.. nasri plays on the wings and would be a great complement to the likes of rosicky, vela and walcott
McGooner
Our midfield's shooting accuracy was reportedly 39.3% last season - bcos of Eboue?! Certainly not Hleb as he didn't even shoot. Nasri should be an improvement on that at the very least. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml?xml=/sport/2008/07/11/ufnnasri111.xml
Lou the Gunneress
I NO mc gunner but u cant compare players like that an out an out winger to a CM player. true lou u have to have midfielders chippin in with at least 20 goals a season such as pires an freddie if strickers have an bad period u need that extra bit to score jus like gerrard an lampard can do it via deflections which was what we were lacking aswell last season. ye still need another 2-3 players
123spurs
london gunner, u poor thing shud be an interstein season ahead also with 7 subs now available.
123spurs
Im going to Day One of the emirates cup with my gooner-fan brother on August 2nd. Could we expect to see him there?
united4life
I have very little knowledge of the tournament, i mean - do teams usually play strong teams?
united4life
it was about time. suddenly suddenly the summer doesen't feel so dire anymore. welcome SAMIR, you're donning the jersey number of two Arsenal legends of the recent past, so make em proud..
luckys_10
U4L, Samir will start training on July 21st, according to the official site. So Nasri may well make an appearance at the tournament. The tournament is very much like the pre-season Ajax tournament. The 2007 version of the tournament involved PSG, Inter Milan and Valencia. This year the other teams will be Real Madrid, Juventus and Hamburg. How "strong" the teams are depends very much on which teams the managers decide to bring to the tournament. Inter's squad in the 2007 tournament, for example, was a mixture of first team players and second stringers.
jaelle
U4L, me too, going to the 1st day. As Jaelle said, it's usually a mix of kids and established pros for Arsenal. Quite likely for Juve as well, cos they'll face you guys at OT just 3 days after visiting us, so we should see some rotation there. But even our kids will be worth your while! These players try hard to impress and gain a first-team place in the new season so it'll be good to watch. And btw I hope you won't have to see Ronaldo in the white shirt, I'm starting to feel for you guys... Have a good time!
Lou the Gunneress
The Emirates Cup is two games in two days so pretty much the whole squad gets a run out. The 2nd day is the 'glamour' game against Real and if it follows the pattern of last year more of the first team will feature in that one.
Amos.
About time!
monkeyg
nasri, walcott, vela, cesc, rvp and eduardo later in the season. i would be staining my pants if i was the opposition!!! lets get it on.
supersof
yea gooooooo gunneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeers
fellow
supersof looks like you can add arshavin to that list! lucky ********s! i cant belive we havent even made a move for anyone yet!
united4life
I think thats Arshavins agent bigging him up to prompt a bid from anyone!
MrArsenal
i dont think we'll get arshavin, as MrA says, its more the agent's doing.
supersof
Good signing for you lot. So, will you have him for 2 seasons or 3 before he realizes his worth and transfers due to failed contract renegotiation? (I'm poking fun at Flamini, not that prat Adebayor.)
rslack
rslack - You mean Flamoney and Adebaywhore??
