Henry Thanks Fans As He's Voted 'Greatest Gunner'

Arsenal legend, Thierry Henry has thanked Gooners for voting him as their 'Greatest Ever Gunner'.

Over the summer months Arsenal.com has been conducting polls to find the greatest ever Arsenal player as voted for by the fans.

Thierry Henry, the all-time leading goal scorer at the North London club beat Arsenal greats such as Dennis Bergkamp, Tony Adams and Ian Wright to be crowned our greatest ever player.

The Frenchman was truly honoured to receive such an accolade.

"Thanks to everyone who voted for me, It`s always a true honour when something is voted for by the fans, especially Arsenal fans as they have many great players from their past to choose from.

"As you know, I loved my time at Arsenal and have many fantastic memories from my eight years there. It was an honour to play in the historic red and white of Arsenal especially at Highbury. I`ll always follow the team and what they do. I`ll always be a Gooner in my heart.

"And finally thanks to the fans for their support during my time at the club. They were right behind me and the team in good times and bad."

Thierry Henry has always spoken of Arsenal with true passion and love, and I believe he never truly felt the same for our club once we left The real home of football.

Whilst some may contest that Bergkamp, Wright or Adams could have won this award, few will actually argue with the decision.

Certainly for most of the time he was here he was on a different level to any other player in the premier league. On that basis the choice has to be the right one.
Amos.
I think Henry is the greatest player I have ever seen in my lifetime. And not only just from Arsenal, from the entire world. How Henry never won world player of the year is beyond me. No other player has excited my footballing sense like Titi has ... it was a priveldge to witness him scoring many goals. A true footballing legend.

ATVO happens to be running a show called Untouchables 1997-2007 right now. To see Thierry at his peak again is amazing.

I long for the day when the King returns. I don't even care in what role it is, I just want him back here where he belongs.

Would've been amazed had it been anyone else (even the Iceman). I saw Henry a couple of months ago in London, thinking back now there's loads I wanted to say to him, top of the list being a simple "thanks for everything". Unfortunately the cheeky scamp in me took over and as we passed I touched my heart with my fist grinned and said "Welcome home bruv!".

I agree flv - I'd love to see Henry back in some capacity. Shooting coach for Adebayor?? Lol
Rocky7
A true modern day legend. We even love him at Pompey.
storagematt
The mark of a true legend is when you get fans from other teams speaking highly of them!! I know he had a great bond with the Pompey & Liverpool fans .... I ca't imagine the Tottenham supporters like hom too much ... lol

I changed my life around 6 times here in the US just to plan special visits to the UK to watch Henry play in person. I am very happy to have done so -- I've seen a lot of exciting players in person over the years but there are 6 who I put above the rest, Henry is one of them (Zidane, Bergkamp, Rivaldo, Beto Carlos and Romario are the others).

i think Bergkamp and Henry both deserve to be number one. but someone has to be one and someone has to come second, but in my eyes both are numero uno. Thierry was the box office of the premiership, and i'm sure he'll be the best player in la liga this season. But my vote went to Bergkamp, simply because he is the player that made leave cricket and follow football, and he is the reason why i'm a gooner. it was Dennis who put us on the map in Europe, and together with Titi, they both took us to new heights. my most favourate players ever, the two of them. but for sentimental reasons, i love Dennis 0.01% more than Titi..
luckys_10
he is and will always be THE KING. THE LEGEND. THE GREATEST.
supersof
and bro, you don't have to say that you'll always be a gooner in your heart. we all know that, we always knew that. you had to leave for whatever reasons you know best, but no hard feelings here, there never will be. you along with your team-mates gave us the most wonderful football ever played on this planet, and it was truly an honour to watch you and your mates play. you'll always be missed. and i'm sure the current team will do all they can to make you guys proud. LOVE YOU..
luckys_10
I voted for Ashley Cole. But I have accepted Titi as number one. He did ok for us ;-)

Goofle: King of the understatment .... lol
Rocky7
Goof you're one of those idiots who voted for Cashley!!??!
Lou the Gunneress
Lou I think he's joking - at least I hope so!
Passenal
I know Passenal, of course he's joking. Couldn't be serious could he?! I just have to reiterate - those who voted for Cashley are complete idiots. I can't imagine any Gooner doing that at all. Still scratching my head!
Lou the Gunneress
i still get *****ed off that he never won the ballon d' fakest award in the world there were some years he was god like and the statistics back him up 42 goals & 23 assists in one such season...
anonymous
Simply it's difficult to think of a better player, made topflight football look childishly easy at times. However, a) this poll officially invalidated itself when Cole appeared in it b) I'm suspicious, I go to the official website every day and don't ever remember seeing this vote advertised and c) unless you've seen every Arsenal player in history, who can say who is the best ever? Henry is certainly the most talented in my lifetime, but how could I possibly say he was better than the likesof Bastin, Drake, Hapgood or James? That said, the fact that TH didn't win World Player of the Year in 2003 or 2004 confirms FIFAs hatred of the Premiership.
Little Dutch
Plus the top 7 players voted all played in the last 10 years.
paul_ownz
Henry is the best player I have ever watched play the game, as LD said he made playing in the best league in the world look like the most asanine of duties at times and most definitely should've won the Balon D'or at least twice but as the greatest ever 'Arsenal' legend more than just ability has to come into it and I would say Adams, Seamen, Bergkamp or Rice should all come before him in that respect.
Ozi Gooner
When you consider thay Michael Owen was crowned European player of the year as well. No disrespect to Owen but come on!!! Titi was pure genius.
MrArsenal
*that*
MrArsenal
Come on LD, the poll was on arsenal.com for more than a week or something. Maybe you're not an ATVO member (eligible to vote) and didn't pay attention to that. And yeah the FIFA thing I can guess why TH didn't get the PotY. But Ballon d'Or, how come? I thought they're a French magazine?! He's certainly the best player in the world around 2003-04. In 2003 Nedved beat him to the 1st place, I don't know, didn't watch Serie A back then. But 2004 he wasn't in the top 3, that's outrageous!
Lou the Gunneress
I voted for Bergie really.
Goofle
Henry is the greatest player to have worn the red and white of Arsenal. Although i love bergkamp and i believe him being 100% complimentary in style to T.H was one of the reason he was so effective (come on, he made anelka look good). Its just that T.H dishes out stuff that are out of this world week in week out!
