What are the odds eh? It's a pretty good draw as twente aren't even that good by the Dutch leagues standards (Solid but unspectacular). Lets hope McLarens record against us continues with Twente.....
LondonGooner
Not to be complacent but that's a pretty good draw
Rocky7
Howay Sheeps Teeth, do the Gooners.
SirLes
Could have been worse for you lot, but you'll have to warn against complacency.
BrooksySpurs
This place is a ******** to get to……………...
Little Dutch
Brooksy - Of course the players will have to avoid complacency, I however am not worried in the slightest about any team managed by Steve McClaren.
Rocky7
Give him a slap on my behalf.
Aamir
Could have been worse. The funny thing's that when Twente came out, I was saying to myself "Arsenal please, make it Arsenal." Don't know why I wanted them, more than those minnows lol. We've never faced them before. The travelling Gooners would be happy to go to a new place.
Lou the Gunneress
LD, I can't wait to hear what you have to say on the latest Blatter gem: "I have never said that Ronaldo is a slave, but I said slavery with young people. European clubs are trying to get 13, 14 and 15-year-old boys and bring them to the big clubs..."
G4L
just for the record, it is a blatant lie (on Sepp). Sometimes I wish I was a journalist.
G4L
No worries LD. On SSN they're saying that the Twente stadium is being renovated and we won't play there, venue is TBC.
Lou the Gunneress
You should be fine. Give Mc***** a good slapping.
storagematt
that's an alright draw, not the easiest, but if we can beat ac milan... they will think that they are capable of an upset, but over two ties we can't lose. I never heard of any of their players, but their manager isn't worth his shoelaces.
afri-gooner
Brilliant draw! You let your country down, you let your country down. Just down the road from dam n all....LD it aint that hard to get to.
shewore
If only we can get Yaya Toure before then!
Gooner_Vin
Flight routes not that good, can fly to Germany, can get a boat and drive, can fly to Dam, but nothing obvious. I just hope the game isn't now played in Eindhoven cos I've been there twice and it's really ******** boring.
Little Dutch
A pretty good draw, should be easy for Arsenal. But they did beat Ajax to reach the CL qualifying draw. But again, its McLaren incharge, shouldnt be any real threat to your progress in the competition.
chelseaforever
ha, wally with the brolly! Who'd have thought it eh....
michael105uk
shouldnt be a problem over two legs.
123spurs
McClaren isn't as bad a coach as people make out. He's not brilliant and he was well out of his depth with the England job. But people really have to process the following information, England are *****. That is not McClaren's fault, he could only work with what he was given.
Little Dutch
I think at worst we will draw over there, but I just can't see them getting anywhere close at the Grove. It'll be nice to have some competitive football less than 2 weeks away!
Rocky7
true hes reputation dropped an awful lot after england job an rem he was manu no2, so not as bad as people think
123spurs
LD, it's so much easier to just blame the wally. ;)
Aamir
Although there were some better teams in the draw, FC Twente aren't actually that bad a side. Arsenal should definately be beating them, but we shouldn't be taking them lightly, they do have a few good players.
ArsenalRob
I think that McClaren might actually be worse than people make out. However rubbish England are, he still was not able to add one single thing to the mix - and that's the sign of a very poor manager. Maybe it's not accurate but it appeared that his Boro days were a charmed life that he lived under the protective wing of Steve Gibson. Average at best!
Andy-bayor
if he puts his brolly up lads you will walk it
mick66owl
McClaren is average, certainly. But now worse than that. He didn't add anything to England, but as the saying goes, Schumacher would never have won the Grand Prix with a Vauxhall Astra. I think McClaren was not the only one culpable for England's poor qualifying campaign. But there again, it'll be a cold day in hell before anyone dare suggest that someone like St. Stevie Me MBE MOTM might just be a tad over rated without someone like Mascherano doing his work for him.
Little Dutch
Maybe McClaren can turn into a national hero again by somehow defeating Arsenal in two legs! Btw I know , I know that will never happen or will it......
ForeverUnited
Er.. they sing "You'll never walk alone" too.. They don't look bad in this video, but they've lost Engelaar and some other players this summer. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/2008/08/01/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-arsenal-s-champions-league-opponents-fc-twente-115875-20680213/
Lou the Gunneress
Wonder if they'll play with our youngster in the match.
k_chelski
I'm just relieved we didn't get Atletico Madrid (tho Galarasaray and Dinamo worried me a bit too). Atleti are a terrific team, and in Aguero they have a fantastic Argentinian talent.
jaelle
I like this draw. Im looking forward to playing a Dutch team. It should be a perfect draw because its not too hard but hard enough to give us a test that will get our team ready for the new season.
gunnerkid107
Me too Jaelle! Either Atletico or Schalke now, good for us, bad for them or fans in general. THey're both strong attacking teams, would have been nice if they both advanced. Too bad there.
Lou the Gunneress
Tactical genius versus tactical incompetent, should hopefully be a reasonbly comfortable passage,
Dean1
Check out Adebayors comments on arsenal.com
paul_ownz
Oh that's right Lou, I forgot about Schalke, they worried me a bit too. Pity about the Atleti-Schalke draw. Of the two, I'd prefer to see Atleti go thru. Ade has agreed to a new contract: http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/i-will-sign-new-contract-says-adebayor-883186.html Gotta laugh at his comments!
jaelle
Ade's staying! time to forgive and forget
ArsenalRob
He says on arsenaltv that he never said any of those comments. He was away on holiday and didnt even know what was going on. All that came out in the press was not from him, and his heart has always been with Arsenal. He will sign a new contract etc.
paul_ownz
Even if its a case that Barcelona & Ac Milan pulled out from buying him and he has only come out now because he had no other choice but to sign a contract, we might as well forgive and get on with it.
paul_ownz
are you gonna change the poll at all?
123spurs
He's come out now to try and get less stick at home tomorrow! :P
Lou the Gunneress
Exactly, Lou! If he didn't say any of those comments then why didn't he immediately come out and say that like Cesc did?
jaelle
Exactly, why did he hide behind his b@st@rd of an @gent for so many weeks? And in this interview, he said he's GOING TO put pen to paper SOON, he hasn't literally done so as of now. But he couldn't even wait for it to be done to make the announcement, say in a couple of days. This damage control before his first home appearance is pretty obvious! But it also serves as a timely slap in Begiristain's face, which of course is welcomed.
Lou the Gunneress
The last time McLaren played against us, he lost 7-0. :D
