Jack Wilshere Gets Promoted

Jack Wilshere Gets Promoted

Arsene Wenger gave the biggest hint yet that 16 year old Jack Wilshere will feature in the first team this season after handing him the vacant number 19 shirt.

Wilshere has been the stand out performer in Arsenal's pre-season campaign, showing no fear, extreme composure and the skill needed to survive in this Arsenal squad.

Many fans are refusing to hype the player up, stating we shouldn't get over excited about a few pre-season friendlies, and whilst this is massively correct, the old adage states that 'you can only beat what's put in front of you', and he has done that in style, and with the new 7 players on the bench rule coming into play this season, it would be highly difficult to leave him out.

So congratulations Jack, keep your head down, work hard and you just might make it in this Arsenal team.

It seems risky to give such a young player so much exposure but so far he hasn't been fazed by any of it. I hope the club can ensure he stays focussed on what is important over the next few years. There is no doubt that he has the talent.

I just hope we don't see any quotes from him other than those from the official website for the next 20 years.

That would make him 36! He'll be on his 2nd testimonial by then!

I was just thinking that Theo Walcott was the same age when he was thrust into the limelight on an even grander scale and he has handled it exceptionally well, I think young Jack should take note of Walcott's attitude!

Arsene and the club have done very well keeping hush hush about the boy - he didn't name names when he said "There's a young player that has not much more to learn technically" but by now we know it was Jack he's talking about. In fact a lot of press are still ignorant about him and the way they keep running the themes of Ade "kisses and makes up" (makes me sick), "goal wins Arsenal fans back" (if only it's that easy), etc etc suits us just fine. But not for long I'm afraid. When the press "discover" this boy, they'll hype him like Theo-style for sure. Hope he has what it takes to keep improving admist all that then.

like a lot of you i am trying the stay calm about this young lad but its hard not to considering the wealth of young talent we have at the club, if Wenger rates Jack enough to give him 19 above some of our other young players he must be seriously impressed. Gonna be a very exciting season i think.

JFW!! This kid is a natural, whilst I understand fans' reluctance to hype anything English given the gobby, ego ridden, on the lash types that have preceded him, in all honesty he's the most exciting thing to have stormed on to the scene since Cesc and his fearless attitude plus consumate style he'll be a first team regular before the seasons' end. But yeah keep yer bonce down, your tongue tied and your wage discussions private and you'll do just fine Jacky boy.

In all fairness the lad needs adding to that poll on the right like yesterday! :)

Spot on Niko, the ease with which this 16 year old slots right into the 1st team reminded me of Cesc 4 years back. He has impressed during this calendar year and I've been continually impressed whenever I've watched this kid play. Wise not to hype him up - a few CC appearances and a few sub appearances would count as a successful season for him.
