Cesc to miss the next two games

Adding to the long term injuries of Rosicky and Eduardo the club has announced that many more players are unfit to make the trip to Holland.

Samir Nasri and Abou Diaby haven't yet recovered from injuries sustained in preseason and these have now been joined by Kolo Toure, Philippe Senderos and Cesc Fabregas. Both Senderos and Fabregas have damaged their hamstrings in the last 24 hours. Cesc is expected to miss at least the next two games while Kolo has damaged a muscle in his hip but is expected to be back by the weekend. Nasri is also expected to be back for the weekend game against West brom.

It looks as though Wenger is looking to the summers teenage recruit Aaron Ramsey to step in against FC Twente in the CL qualifier in Holland tomorrow evening.

With a number of players, including Sagna and Clichy, due to face a round of international friendlies on the 20th August just 4 days into the season, squad resources are going to be severely tested this month.

You couldn't make it up! I don;t care what team you mention, anyone missing Cesc, Diaby, Eduardo, Rosicky, Senderos, Toure and Nasri would struggle. This is turning into the most unfunny of jokes!

Groan.

I don't want to sound like a D&G merchant but our squad is already showing a lack of depth in the midfield and the season hasnt even started!
gunnerkid107
we are paying premium to watch a bunch of kids playing. we are doomed again, very sorry to say this...
fcdematthew
that squad is rediculous. I'm not saying there aren't any good players in there but GK is right, the midfield is rediculously inexperienced. I'm still confident of getting a result (though also cautious), but this is how we dropped points in the Prem last season, and this squad is even thinner. We are relying on luck to carry us through this year.
ArsenalRob
What the hell happened to our midfield?!?!???!! So is it Eboue, Ramsey, Theo and Denilson now?!?!?!??! ARGHGHHHHGHGHHGHH
Lou the Gunneress
Now the Arsenal injury report might be the longest part of my preview! :(
gunnerkid107
I honestly hope this forces Arsene to buy that much-needed and overdue DM at least! :/ It's not the time to wait till the end of August for a bargain it seems!
Lou the Gunneress
Not just the midfield I've just realised: didn't Djourou have some kind of pain against Sevilla and came off? I don't think he's 100% either. Geez but we still have to play him alongside Gallas. It's a joke - and really really not funny!
Lou the Gunneress
And does anyone find this headline funny?! "We have a big squad at home"? What the hell is that? I want to know who approves arsenal.com content, it's not the first time that they put the rather not funny kind of spin on things: http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/ars-ne-wenger-we-have-a-big-squad-at-home-
Lou the Gunneress
this is exactly why we are going to struggle this year - we have no strength in depth - i know we have great youngsters, vela, ramsey, wilshire, song - but if your tell me they will get us trhough the season i'll say bollox
D4NNYT
hopefully it will force Arsene's hands a little bit but i doubt it. Although i like his idealistic young players philosophy, to win a title you need squad depth. It is not how good your first XI is but how good your bench is these days. Failing to plan for injuries is handing over to Lady Luck and last season she did not like us one bit.
Gael-Force
Gael-Force, the problem I see here is that we routinely have a LOT of players out with injuries you'd need a whole additional squad to give us depth. F--king unbelievable. I'm not a D&G merchant but I was already nervous about this tie because of our midfield problem and now this! Geezus H! How long is this going to go on??? We seem to have more injuries than other clubs!
jaelle
Lou it's not funny but I guess tomorrow is about damage control followed by the return leg trashing at the Emirates. I feel that without major additions we are in for a long season. The first teamers will invariably get injured (fingers crossed for RvP tomorrow) to be replaced by inexperienced youngsters. All this because we are saving money and winning nothing. I understand financial prudence but we are one of the most expensive tickets in the league and yet we get outspent every summer by the likes of Portsmouth, Man City, Newcastle, Spurs, Boro, Sunderland.. A big club must have a better mix between youth and experience. It feels sometimes as though the club is too cheap to buy established players.
Gael-Force
when is Song going to return, fit? we need him urgently. hope that Cameroon goes out very soon. every club seems to strengthen, but we let 3 players go and signed only one player ready for first team action.
fcdematthew
Jaelle, i don't know but maybe we have injury-prone players because of their young age. Stevie G, Gael Clichy used to get injured a lot growing up and now they are more reliable. Injuries happen to every club (MU with Rooney Ronaldo) Chelsea (JT Grogba) what worries me is that the level of the team drops too much after a first teamer is injured and replaced by a younger player. Sagna got injured and our defending was all over the shop. I'm not nervous about tomorrow because i think we have enough but it may also be because i don't know much about Twente except they've lost their best players.
Gael-Force
this is farcical..I'm speechless at the state of this squad with the epl opener on Saturday.. I feel like having a rant but I'm too appalled. Honestly can anyone tell me what Wenger is thinking, I think he is taking this not killing the kids faaaar to literally.
hazzagooner
Gael, I've wondered if it's because we have too many young players and they're injured more often because their bodies are still developing -- combined with the specific, tough demands of our playing style. fcdematthew, Cameroon are facing Brazil next in the QF. If Brazil beat them, Song's coming home.
jaelle
Go Brazil then!
Gael-Force
I do find it a bit unfair on Ramsey to be put under such pressure in his first real game for us. He will relish it as he came to us for that.. I can't wait to see Nasri play regularly. This kid will be as good as Bobby Pires.
Gael-Force
I'm far from being a chicken little type but this news just highlights my fears that having been growing all summer. I fully believe that Flamini, Gilberto, and Hleb are replaceable and seeing them go isn't the end of the world BUT a lot of people say we fell off and lost the race last year due to a lack of experience. I don't think we have to go buy a bunch of 25 year + big names, but relying on 17 year olds going into the first real game of the season just doesn't fill me with confidence. We've been so concerned about whether Denilson is a proper fit with Cesc that few are asking who can link up with him when Cesc is inevitably out. Without a good answer to that question Cesc will be playing far too many games again and get injured or just run out of steam come the final stretch. We all saw what happened to Henry after his World Cup summer, do we really want to be in a position where Cesc has to play virtually every game this year after the Euros, after playing nearly every game last year? I honestly don't see how this team can make a serious run if we don't strengthen in the middle - and I mean really strengthen, not just add another 19 year old with great technique who will grow into the English game.
smithdj74
Well, our injury list will look like the start of some epic soon, but I think we will still manage to win against FC Twente. It will give players like Ramsey chance to shine. I think that Ramsey will love being on a big stage. Also will still have the fire power of Adebayor, RvP, Bendtner and Vela. So yep, we may let in a goal or two, but The Arsenal will score four or more!
hackneyval
I have a feeling we'll play 4-5-1 tomorrow with either Vela or Van perise dropping back into midfield with Adebayor playing up on his own. Even with that light squad i think we'll manage a win.
Kutch
goods news is that we don't have to win to qualify. hope that we get it done comfortably, without more injuries. we can't afford more injuries.
fcdematthew
i think up front we're okay. midfield and central defence needs beefing up badly. we only really have senderos as viable backup to kolo and gallas, djourou hasnt been in the starting lineup often enough to gel IMO. song alone is not the answer, i hope wenger finds another player to beef up CB and DM positions
supersof
tony adams said that the best defence wins the league. i agree with that. somehow dont think we have the best defence...as previous seasons have proven. hopefully wenger corrects that soon.
supersof
What the F*CK does Wenger mean by a big squad at home? He needs a DM ASAP.
stukazufuss
Is *********, frankly. We already lacked strength in depth last season! GET THE CHEQUE BOOK OUT ARSENE. YOU ARE MUGGING EVERYONE OFF!
Moorish
there's a lot of good forwards in that squad, for what it's worth... a bit soft in the middle, but otherwise ok! where have all the CM's gone?
afri-gooner
we might be the first side that has to field members of the ladies team in the league. cool!
afri-gooner
I will be really surprised if we win anything this season and my estimation is that the best we can expect is a repeat of last year. It's clear that our focus is the PL and CL and that we don't have the squad to compete for FA and Carling Cups which Arsene has de-prioritised. Clearly its an absolute must that we finish in the top 4 as a minimum. What's surprising is that Arsene knows what it takes to win a PL and so he can't be that myopic thinking that this current squad is capable of winning the PL competing against the squads of Chelsea and Man Utd. Oh well, the joys of supporting Arsenal!
Gooner_Vin
With Cesc out for TWO games, Arsenal should finish 6th this season! ;D But seriously Denilson and Ramsey/Diaby could do an amazing job. Denilson is turning into another Gilberto and I don't know if that's what Wenger originally intended but he's looking very comfortable in the middle of the pitch
ForeverUnited
i have to agree with foreverunited, of all people! Except for the central midfield problem, the squad is very strong, and even there with denilson/ramsey it's not the end of the world. Our defense and attack are basically full strength, especially in attack we have so many options tonight. I'm confident :-)
afri-gooner
Wenger should stop the being surprised act at how many injuries we have. Eduardo and Rosicky were already out, Diaby is injury prone, Cesc was only 45 minutes into pre season. Did he think Bischoff was going to play his first game in a year for us 2 weeks after joing??? He should be buying and he should be buying now. Im never one to question Wenger usually, but, risking the start of our season because of a notion that has seen us lose players hand over fist isn't good, we can see what will happen (if it happens) and everyone will say "I told you so!"
LondonGooner
How long will be Nasri out for??
