Arsenal Clock up Air Miles in CL Draw

In the draw for the Champions League group stages made this afternoon Arsenal have avoided most of the tougher and weaker sides in each of the pots from which our opposition has been drawn.

It has a couple of longer distance journeys which are always tricky encounters - for supporters as well as the team.

Following the draw the group G looks like this:

Dynamo Kyiv

A chance then to clock up or use up some Airmiles for our travelling supporters.

how come we never get celtic

we are through
This is the "ideal" draw in a way. We avoided the trickiest teams like Bayern, Fiorentina, Atletico, etc. But it's not the easiest ones (e.g. Chelsea's) that'd make us complacent again. It's a tad tricky to travel far and to face the tough atmosphere (well we'll also find out about that) in Turkey and the Ukraine. That'd put the players just in the right mindset I think.

hope ye lose all yer games
glendalough yid
If we don't will ye choke on ye deep fried pizza laddie?
Talk about Air miles - we are playing in the 4 furthest corners of Europe!! Unlike Spurs eh glenda - who can't even manage the 4 corners of their own stadium.
Good draw for us. The away trip to Fene will be a challenge for the fans. Hope everybody stays safe.
Oh well at least Russia aint on the agenda again!. Could've been far kinder but thankfully we've spent all Summer reinforcing for such an outcome and we now have a large squad ready to......oh no wait...
Haha it's literally true that we're going to the 4 furthest corners of Europe. Did anyone pay attention to the colours of the group balls - or whatever it was - that indicates whether we start the group games at home or away? That 16/17 Sep game will be between 2 away league games to Blackburn and Bolton...
Lou the Gunneress
Well Niko, we have had pretty much equal ins and outs this summer. Hleb, Gilberto, Flamini, Senderos, Lehmann and Hoyte going out with Silvestre, Bischoff, Nasri, Ramsey, Vela and Djourou coming in.
Yep and our squad was too lean in my eyes last year Goof, which ended up being pretty costly no?
But we will still sign a new player!
Just got the club email. Matchday 1 is away, d@mn, 3 away trips in a row...
Lou the Gunneress
Matchday 1 is on 17/9 at Kyiv, btw.
Lou the Gunneress
Yep, Kyiv away first, which makes booking travel nice and difficult. Woooo. Still, can't grumble, I did ask specifically for Kyiv. Not sure aboue Fenerbahce though, was hoping to avoid that trip but I guess it was inevitably gonna happen one day.

Hey LD and guys who've been to Porto: is it a nice city to visit? I'm thinking of going to one of these 3 places. Porto away is the last fixture; hopefully by then we'd be in a good position to qualify and so it might be easier to get tickets. Just thought that'd be a holiday idea.
Lou the Gunneress
Porto isn't great, bit boring, especially in December.

Lou, I love Porto (also called Oporto). Hell, I love Portugal (even with the silly tensions there sometimes are between Brazilians and Portuguese) -- gorgeous country, great food and wine. The city center is a UNESCO-protected site. If you love good wine, you'll love Porto. And that's from someone who was raised to feel hostility toward the Portuguese by churlish Brazilian relatives.
LD, you found Porto boring? Maybe I enjoyed it so much because I had relatives and friends of relatives taking me everywhere. I was there in July, tho.
Hehe I can't drink red cos I'm allergic :( but white wine and good food would defo be a big plus for me! I heard from some that it's not the most scenic place, but from others that it's like Portugal's answer to San Francisco - a nice coastline and stretches of houses uphill, or sth like that. I'm a big fan of Spain's coastal areas, so I'd also like Portugal I assume?
Lou the Gunneress
I admit I prefer Spain to Portugal (the Spanish are more like Brazilians in temperament) but yes, I think you'll enjoy the coastline very much.
When I was studying in Spain, a few of us spent a long weekend at a hotel on the beach in Porto. The people were helpful considering we only spoke english and spanish. Plus the stadium looked nice when we rode by it in a cab.
I don't think December really does it justice, I;m more stoked about Kiev, I just wish it was a bit later cos it's a ******** to sort out travel and work is hectic at the moment. Might not be able to do Istanbul......which is a real shame. Ahem.
Little Dutch
Someone wanted Kyiv right? Something about the girls, well congrats.
But on the plus, we dont have to go to kiev in the winter when you need you skiis to play
Lou - You've either got Porto in Decemeber, or freezing Kiev or a trip to Turkey! Do the math .... you know which one makes sense!! PS -Coral beer rules!!
Put it this way .... you go to Turkey it's full of idiots, and unless I have servely underestimated how cool you are, then the only thing in Kiev is the women ....... Portugal all the way!!
I was actually hoping we'd draw someone like Roma or Bordeaux.. :P Those are proper holidays.. Lucky Chelsea.. Well hope we get them in the knock-out stage.
Lou the Gunneress
hello my fellow gooners, i'm back and wt a *****ed up draw this is, i was hoping we get bayern or villareal or athletico in our group. but these teams i so don't feel like playing them. i'm confident we'll win this group, but dun want it to affect our league performances..
I thought Porto found their way back into this year's CL on appeal. But apparently that bribery saga isn't over yet and there's still a possibility of the UEFA kicking them out (I doubt it though):
Lou the Gunneress
I'm please with the draw, Kiev in Sept, when it could have been in Dec so we've got to be please with that, don't we? Regarding the Porto situated what if they are kick out who will get their place in our group?
